Sam Pittman

Pittman is given credit in a recent article for working with James Stone who uses different hands for deep/snap vs under center. Stone is now starting Center for Falcons. Very complimentary article of Stone and Pittman and their relationship at Tennessee.

Why don't you check and see how many rushing yards we had against the best rushing D in the nation this year? Then come back and acknowledge how stupid your post is.

Yes, Josh Dobbs scrambling for his life and making plays was definitely bc of our great offensive line coaching...

The OL coach has to go. Not keeping Pittman was Butch's biggest mistake.
I would have to agree with that. Playing with an NFL OL, this team should have fared better on offense than we did. Everything seems to point to Mahoney. He might be a fine OL coach for a Big East team....but not in the SEC. You need the cream of the crop, and Pittman was one of the few bright spots on Dooley's staff.

Some of this is Mahoney's lack of recruiting. He had two full classes to replenish the cupboard...and not a single one of his players is looking like an SEC OL.

Hard to evaluate Mahoney yet. Bakjakian is a bigger problem than Mahoney.
Negative. Bajakian looks brilliant when the QB isn't getting sacked every other play. But when Mahoney's guys routinely get beat off the snap every play, no OC can overcome that. I really would not be surprised to see Mahoney let go after the season is over.

Arkansas OL rolling along; when Alabama came sniffing around to Pittman, Arkansas tied him up by doubling his salary, pretty good for OL coach and he's considered a strong recruiter in that area.

Loyalty is a fine quality, but not to the detriment of the program. ROI is King and Tennessee has not had the return on investment for shelling out the bucks for CBJ's staff.

In two coaching jumps, CBJ has gone from $300,000 to 3 million a year. Similarly, his entourage have seen significant jumps as well.

The SEC is not the place to start your retirement planning. You either produce or you're out.

As others have said it's Mahoney.

In 2011 it was Heistand. Then Pittman came in in 2012 and, miraculously, the problem was fixed.

In 2014 it's Mahoney. If CBJ wants to keep himself and his merry band together he should let Mahoney go to greener pastures.

But I fear he won't as Mahoney has been one of CBJ's OGs. We're hosed.

Pittman also took 2 recruits with him that would have been starters for us.. One being Skipper at tackle

Our talent isn't top of the line but it's not as bad as its been either. At the end of Fulmer we had hardly any scholarship players on either line. James craggy did a vastly superior job with 2 walk on brothers that were 50 lbs under weight than mahoney is doing with guys that atleast had scholarship offers.

Yeah, our talent is so stupendous that we're starting a former walk on with no acl.

This would be the second biggest win of the off season to a top 5 recruiting class.

I think Jones is too stubborn to do it though.

People are quick to forget how the "lack of talent" excuse was used for Dooley, also, due to Fulmer laying down on the job and all the attrition with Kiffin.

Dooley had something like 63 scholarship players year one -- Jones started with a full stable of 85, and an NFL O line. If Mahoney can't coach up NFL quality linemen, then who can he coach up?

He won't be. We will go 7-6 this year and Butch and a large faction of the fan base will see that as progress enough to not replace Mahoney.

I was very anti-Bajakian but I would actually like to see him call a game where the entire defensive line isn't in the quarterback's face. Mahoney needs to go.

I bet Butch plays the loyalty card and keeps Mahoney thus producing another year or two of mediocrity. That probably will get us to the next coach. Big mistake not keeping Pittman.

Unfortunately the o-line is going to be comprised of the same members next year unless we get some phenom freshman that are ready to play, which is highly unlikely. Mahoney hasn't seemed to be able to produce any improvement this year, and if the same happens next year, and Butch doesn't get rid of him, then 2016 isn't going to be any better.

Glad jack jones will be here next year. Hopefully these "kids" realize how difficult the sec is and put in the work to compete. It pathetic to get whipped all season like that.

He's still true freshman with no game experience. I'd love for him to come in next year and be to the OL what Barnett is to the DL this year. Our OL now has game experience their benefit. The problem is there is no Nasty Streak in them. Not one of them. In HS they dominated, and pushed people around. Now, it's like they're thinking too much. In pass protection they look absolutely lost.

Coleman Thomas must be ready to play year

We are. But it's because our ol coach can't coach up 3 and 4 star players that are on the bench enough to beat him out. If you wanna look at it that way I guess Gilliam with walk on talent and no acl coached just a little by pittman is better than a 4 star that's healthy and coached by mahoney. Those 6'0 250 lb twins were literally the only bodies we had to throw out there yet they were more productive.

What did the o line do that was so great in 2012? We did pass block but we couldnt run the ball
