Salter most likely starter for 2021

Kaidon Salter is most likely going to be the starter for the 2021 season, as long as Chaney is still the OC. My thinking behind this is at Chaney's previous stops as OC he went with the young guy he recruited to develop him and played him early. I do not think there is a realistic chance JG comes back next year (thankfully) and Chaney did not want HB to begin with IMHO. Chaney recruited Haynes King but was unable to land him, so he settled with keeping HB. Chaney likes the dual threat QB's better which is why I think Salter will be the 1st string qb next year, so Chaney can develop and run with "his guy"
Why do you say Chaney didn't want HB? He recuited him while he was at Georgia.

JG is eventually going to hold all of our school record totals, positive and negative. Build the statue

I could care less who the starter is as long as he can read a defense and put the ball where it needs to be consistently. And not turn it over or take a dumb sack. These criteria eliminate JG from contention.

Oh Pruitt is starting JG any chance he gets. I think he is coming back next season too. So settle in to watch this offense one more time... minus any NFL talent.

As long as Pruitt and company are here anything is possible. And if JG does come back for an 8th year then he will be starter regardless who comes to the Hill as long as Pruitt is calling the shots!!

1) Don’t think Chaney really had much to do with Eason. He was an early enrollee about a month after Kirby too the job.

2) You’re absolutely right about Fields. Unless it was Kirbys decision then I think it’s preposterous to claim Chaney prefers a running QB. If he did Fields would have gotten more playing time and CFB history would have changed.

You may be right about Eason. I just saw that Chaney was his primary recruiter and based it off that.

But absolutely on Fields, if Chaney preferred a running QB Fields would have been starting, as would Mathis this year. Granted Mathis did start the season as the starter but that was very short lived. Even when Chaney was at TN, he didn't have running QB's starting.A running QB is nice as long as he's a pass first QB that can make plays with his legs. Trevor Lawrence, Mac Jones, Kyle Trask, Justin Fields,Ian Book,Sam Howell are prob the top 7 QB's in the nation and one is a true DT QB. The ones claiming a pure drop back passer isn't the way of the modern day QB is just not true. There's room in college football for both types, not one over the other. Give me a pass first QB who is smart, can read a defense, make all the throws, is a leader and can win you games over a run first QB who is a project in the pass game.

IMHO, any argument that begins with the premise that Chaney chose to play JG, chose not to have a real QB competition last year, or that Pruitt has not dictated both who plays and who gets recruited at QB... is built on a faulty foundation.

Chaney won the argument a few years back and inserted an erratic gunslinger freshman... Bray. He didn't win the argument at UT in spite of JG doing everything possible to prove he's not the right guy. Pruitt committed to building JG and running with him. I believe he sacrificed the confidence and development of Shrout and Maurer in a failed effort to build JG's confidence and get him past his performance limitations.

It was a "reasonable" choice when he made it. But it has failed miserably and he's refused to give up on that strategy. UT need to start playing for the future as soon as Maurer or Bailey were available to become the starter. Whoever that young starter might have been... it is likely they would have made lots of mistakes. I'm not sure UT would have won any more games this season. However the experience would have been invaluable for the next 3 years.

PS- I really like Salter too and have believed that he and not HB would be the future of the O. I could be wrong. I haven't written HB off. But the value of a QB that can extend a play in today's game is just too high.

Maybe. Anyone saying he can’t is kidding themselves. JG will likely not return and go get a job and start a family. HB is not some prodigy who dominates his competition like Trevor Lawrence.. Salter brings something fresh to the table. If he can go through reads better than Maurer, he will get plenty of opportunity. He’s got a cannon and he’s elusive. Also seems cool under pressure.

All that being said, I think something has to change philosophically with our offense before any QB finds success. I fear they are subconsciously being coach to play with timidity. It’s like Pruitt’s heavy emphasis on protecting the ball causes them to think too much. Why didn’t Bailey release the ball in the 2nd to last play of the game? It was an easy TD and a throw he’s made a hundred times. He was looking right at the guy. Started his throwing motion then hesitated.. not like him at all

He did pretty much dominate 7a last year against much tougher competition that TL ever played against. If not for basically missing an entire season due to two different injuries that could be chalked up to Marietta's horrible offensive line his first 3 years, he would own every record in the state.

What makes you think Chaney didn't want HB? Kid is a potential rockstar and is a stylistic match for Chaney's offense. A lot guys he coached at UGA that had a lot of success. Guess I'm not following.....

Because Bailey never showed UGA interest and UGA fans spun that as that Chaney didn't want him. Tennessee fans bought it all hook, line, and sinker.

We say the same about every hot shot recruit that signs with UT. JG got similar predictions. How did that pan out? I don't count on any recruit until he's on campus, in pads and facing live action.

Watching him locally, I never argue with anybody that speaks of his ā€œitā€ factor. I believe it, but he’s got plenty to fix and groom and that ain’t getting done in one offseason. All bets are off after a redshirt season.

There you go, crowning recruits before they even get to Ktown, a sure road to disappointment
