John Adams brought up a good point in his column today talking about Alabama's bowl victory. "'The dominant performance served as a reminder that Alabama was the most talented team in the country. But where was that talent against LSU, South Carolina or - most significantly - in the second half against Auburn?" So many of us on here believe he's the best coach in college football. Does the best coach lose 3 games with arguably the best talent in college football? If ranking the SEC coaches' performances this year, would you put the likes of Coach Dooley or Joker Phillips ahead of him? Would coaching a .500 team with Kentucky or Tennessee's talent eclipse the coaching performance of a 3 loss season with Alabama's talent. Their year was horrendous in regards to underachieving.

Well I look at it this way. SC could probably compete with anyone when they are playing their "A" game. Jeffery and the RB, can't think of his name at the moment, can together take over a game. Auburn has the best player college football has this year, and Lsu has the mad hatter, he definitely is a wild card. So it's not like they lost to chumpchange.

Nah he's not overrated, he's not perfect either. No one here would complain if he was Tennessee's coach.

You can't win em all every single year......and its the SEC, records don't matter when teams play

We played near flawless when we beat Bama. Auburn has far and away the best player in CFB. LSU is a better team than they got credit for being this year. Saban is a very good coach, and has done a masterful job of resurrecting Bama football.

I think this speaks more to the TCU's and Boise's not playing in a conference like the SEC. Saban is an oustanding coach, but even with all of the talent he had, the weekly grind of the SEC brought about 3 losses....to the "most talented team in the country."

If you call a 9-3 season disappointing, how many disappointing seasons did Fulmer have?

10-3 is a disappointing season for Bama and I still think the Auburn game was a choke job. However, he'd still be the first coach I'd call up if I was an AD with a blank check.

Not really after looking at the meltdown at fl and tx this year, 10-3 and the class coming in and the filled cupboard at ua, no disappointment here.

Also take into consideration the bye weeks each team had leading up to Bama. I know Bama had one before Auburn, but for SCjr and LSU that extra week to study and practice how to shut them down could have made a huge difference for those games.

With that being said, Saban is not overrated. He's definitely the best coach in college football. You can't win every game.

UF and TX didn't have near as much coming back and Bama wasn't replacing an iconic quarterback either. This years team is the most talented in the country, hands down.

The more success you have, the harder it is to maintain it. Alabama is going to be a major contender- the benchmark, really- as long as Saban is there. That is all you can ask for in a conference like the SEC.

No he's not. If he was so good, he would win a national championship every year.

Bama lost alot of talented players that were leaders on the team, watching 2 of them right now in the playoffs.

Teams that play in the NC usually lose players like that. Doesn't change the fact that Alabama was the most talented team in the country this year.

Saban tends to struggle after winning a National Title. At LSU he lost 3 games and this year he lost 3 games.

I agree, but to go undefeated 3 regular seasons and to get up every week for that kind of pressure isn't even handled on the pro level. Not making excuses for the 3 games that were lost, but really unreal expectations at any level. 12-2, 14-0, 10-3 should not be disappointing to anyone, I agree the most talented team and best coach is not in az., I will not argue there.

Not a great sample size. And it's not like they returned everyone both years. Having a drop off after a title isn't uncommon because it generally means you lost some really good players.
