I was pi$$ed when he left because he left at the worst time being few weeks away from NSD and in the middle of the night. He took the coward's way out. Glad he's gone because we would've been on major probation.
The reason some are still bitter is because of how he left NOT because he left. He did us a huge favor. And how any UT fan can still defend him is a mystery to me.:shakehead:
- Coaching is a job. When better opportunities arise that you want, you leave your current position and take the new job. I'd have done the same thing to take the Tennessee job.
- I appreciated the work he did while he was here. He was bold and brash at a time when Tennessee was mired in apathy and the molasses that was late-career Fulmer.
- He recruited very well. Had the SC job not opened up, he would have brought in a top-5 class in 2010 and would have done far more with that class than Dooley did.
I'm not saying he's a good person. I'm not saying he's a great coach. I'm definitely not saying that I'm not 100% happy that Butch Jones is the current coach. I'm simply saying that I liked the hire, I liked the boldness, I liked the recruiting, and I understand taking a dream job with a pay-increase. By Fulmer's end, Tennessee was no longer circled on the calendars of our biggest rivals. I appreciated the relevancy of Tennessee.
