You hear a lot about the loss of Percy Harvin and Luis Murphy and how they impacted Florida's offense, but you don't hear a lot about losing the guy calling the shots last year. Florida's spread is built around good, big lineman creating lateral space on the field, fast skill players running through that space, and Tebow being Tebow. When I look at the Gators this year, they still have all of those things, but their offense hasn't been nearly as prolific as '08.
Last year they scored 46 ppg, this year, 34. Last year they scored < 30 once, a 26-3 win in the second game of the season against Miami; this year they scored < 30 in 7 different games. Statistically, the yardage gained by UF in '08 and '09 is about even, but the points are substantially off.
I'm wondering if Mississippit St isn't the proper party to thank for slowing down Florida's offense by hiring Dan Mullen. Perhaps next season, Louisville will be the party to thank for softening the Gator defense.
