Rumors swirling about QB competition

McNabb is a baller, and Kolb is not. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Crompton has brain lock up when the lights come on.

I was telling a buddy about how Tennessee fans must cringe every time Crompton drops back the way we did when JP Losman did for the Bills. It's not a pleasant feeling.

Sure, this Stephens may not be "the guy", but he might be able to manage a game better. Kiffin talks about running a "pro-style" offense. Many pro teams are starting the "dink and dunk" system. In watching all of the UCLA and Florida games, it doesn't look like you guys have too many big play receivers, either. I honestly think that no matter who is under center, the Vols should start running more underneath crossing patterns and screens just to open things up just a little bit instead of being so run heavy like against UCLA and Florida, unless Hardesty is a bad route runner or bad at catching out of the back field. The short and intermediate 5-8 yard routes open things up more than you think.

It was the exact same last year.
The year before that you heard the same refrain.

Eagles fans only like him when they're winning.

No other perennial Pro-Bowl-caliber QB is disliked more than McNabb, year in and year out.

Uh, good point. Look, I just want more out of JC. If we get by way of him thinking he could lose the spot, so be it. He is supposed to be better than what he is showing us. Can you agree?

McNabb is a baller, and Kolb is not. You're comparing apples to oranges.

Crompton has brain lock up when the lights come on. Can't understand how Stephens getting a crack at competing...not just in practice, but on the FIELD, is so difficult for guys like you to understand. Kiffin said it was close, and that Stephens had made huge strides since Spring. CLK also thought Matt Leinhart was going to end up having to transfer to a Div 1AA team because he was terrible in practice. Somehow he squeaked ahead of
Cassell and showed up once it was game time.

Those words alone show that coaches often sometimes misjudge players ability. We won't know until NS gets his chance on the field. He looked sharp too against WKU. We're already to the point that a number of other players on the team (who were QB's in HS) could step in and run the same plays that CLK is limiting Crompton to...so how can you say NS is worse. CLK just may want to side with seniority with the two being so close.
It may not be ability at all that separates them. It may well be CLK just trying to help JC out if he can...and thinks he may be able to.

Nick had his chance on the field. He gave 13 points to Wyoming. Would you ever, in any instance, want a QB who can't beat Wyoming?
Anyway, do you know what this would do to the team? There's already been talk of finger-pointing in the locker room. Adding a QB controversy would be so incredibly detrimental.
What do you do if Stephens blows it? What would you say if he goes out and loses to Ohio? Ohio gave tOSU a game last year at the 'Shoe, don't think they won't be ready for Neyland.
If Stephens goes out and loses the game, do you blame Stephens? Do you blame Kiffin? Who is to blame? Who do you turn to next? Do you go to the guy who hasn't gotten snaps at all?
There are way to many questions that exist with a bad outing from Stephens, and with history on our side, we can say that it's a strong possibility.

crusse you have no intelligence though it is not you fault. you would be better served to read and not post

This is why I believe TBray will be leading this team, because NS will get his chance very soon, this season. I also think JC and NS will continue being mediocre throughout the schedule thus paving the way for SuperBray next spring. Maybe I'm dreaming, but don't wake me up if I am.

not a stephens fan, crusse

orange blood, can you tell me which qb will still be here next year? NS, so why not let him play. it cant get worse than JC. No i dont think i know more than the coaches but according to them it was close in camp and it is still supposedly a competitive atmosphere. what do you have to lose. cromptonb is the worst qb in d1 by a mile! maybe there is something we dont know, but all i can go on is what lane says. The competition was close.

I never said fan. I said supporter. You call Crompton the worst QB in division 1, so therefore you support a change at the QB position.
This alone takes a shot at your credibility.

Answer me this. You'll gain all credibility and my vote for coach if you can answer this question.
Why is Nick Stephens not starting already?

Kiffins big mouth and poor handling of "yet another" situation has put us in the situation of having nothing to choose from....

At what point do we ask ourselves, is it worth throwing away a season just to get a QB who has never been in front of 102,000 fans?

Maybe Kiffen should have thought it through a little more....... We could have a red shirt sophmore (BJ Coleman) who had promise. ( a coachable athlete)

Now we have to wait another year, and then what? Compare him to who? Coleman's gone, Crompton's Gone, and trust me when I say Stephens won't stand around and let another season go by, with no playing time....

oh well, Chattanooga's attendance is at an all time high..... some of the fans in the stands even have UT-orange on....

Yea, i said it... Just becasue Kiffin said he wasn't going to say anything about Coleman, we all can't speak our mind? (By the way, I am sure Kiffen was told by Hamilton to keep his mouth shut about Coleman....)

Sorry Man! I didn't Drink the orange Cool-aide...

Really? You're throwing out the "it shoulda been Coleman" argument?
Enjoy UTC's season.

okay crusse, you didnt say fan, but supporter. you are splitting hairs. i do not know why ns isnt starting. i never acted like i did know. i only wonder if the comp. was so close then give him a shot. again, i dont know more than the coaches, but they said how close the comp. was. again, crompton has the same look in his eyes that i saw in men who were 15 sec. removed from a 2000 pound bomb blast in iraq.

I refuse to get over it. JC is putting cracks in CLK's master plan.

I think everybody but you realized that the Vols were not going to win a National Championship this year or even an SEC title. Does not make a hill of beans who is the QB this year. Please don't cry. :boxing2:

Apparently I am the only Chattanoogan who doesn't drink Coleman Kool-Aid. Two different coaching staffs have made the determination that between Crompton, Stephens, and Coleman, Crompton is the best QB we have. As much as I criticize Stephens, I at least give him credit for sticking around and trying to compete for the job, unlike The Quitter.

The reason Nick Stephens has not started is because, since December 1, 2008, Jonathan Crompton has distinguished himself as the #1 QB on our roster. In that amount of time, Nick Stephens has never been considered the #1, and to this day, remains with the backups.
Selective amnesia plagues our fans.

how much Kiffen Cool-Aide did you drink? Your not getting the point.... let me explain it again...

Next year's QB situaiton might be even worse than this year.....

Crompton graduates, Coleman saw the writing on the wall first and left to play ball ( not hold a clip board) , Stephens has someone read the wall to him, and heads off to a Div 2 ( just like Coleman) so he can play right away..... and we are stuck holding our breath waiting to see if we get a freashman quarterback, with so much preasure on his shoulder he cracks too!

hey orange blood. if we had even an average qb we would be 3-0 and in the top 5. laugh, but think about it. i am not saying we would be unbeaten w/ ns but crompton is THE WORST STARTING QB IN D1 PERIOD.

People complained when Clausen was the QB, when Ainge was the QB, when Manning was the QB, when Martin was the QB, when Schuler was the QB. Some people are never happy. If you sent $100 bill in the mail to every person in America, there would still be complainers asking why they didn't get $200. I am so over people who ALWAYS want it so freaking perfect. I am sure I could come to your house and pick you and your habits to pieces too. Want it your way? Go to BURGER KING.

I'm with ya on that one!!! ( Crompton, if you are reading this, just turn the position down, take one for the team, literally!!)

hey crusse, i mean ms. crompton, did you ever consider that by the time ns got the nod last year the team had ALREADY GIVEN UP

I am NOT pro-crompton by any means, but it is what it is and have to deal with it. I am also not one to sit back and think about the past or how it could have been. Coulda Shouda Woulda. This same thing happened last year and anybody who wasn't living under a rock saw what happened in that scenario. It was a disaster and will always be a disaster. I suggest some of you become coaches and then you can go and do it the way you want to do it. Quit living in the past for crying out loud. Geeez!

Are you related to crompton or something? if not try breaking the prozac in half before you take it.
