(Rumor) Chaney reached out to Hurts

Rick Clausen was a 10x the Vol JG is. Just watch the LSU 2005 game. More than half the team wanted Clausen to start of Ainge but Fulmer/Cutcliff weren't having it. Did you see Clausen boo hoo'ing on the sidelines??? Nope... he stayed ready and when his name was called on he whipped the LSU tigers on their home turf under the lights.

So why am I ridiculous? You're saying if Hurts vowed to come here on the condition that we promised him the starting QB spot which would require Pruitt to inform JG his services were no longer needed, you wouldn't think that's a net positive for UT?
Clausen was terrible. JG is one of the toughest qbs we have had. He is a team leader.

JG has more potential as a passer with more time to play.

I would love for Hurts to come here and the best man wins the job.

Yes, sensible arguments, equal no argument to you.

An NFL long shot at QB should prep himself by spending his last year in college at a program that is still in the process of crawling out of the abyss. From our side, we should spend the second year of our rebuild with a still average at best o line blocking for a very average passer.

So easy to see this.
A QB with comparatively good mobility who can help the OL in that way. A QB that potentially replaces a QB who is too slow to make decisions which won't work no matter how good the OL is.

You are ridiculous. I'm not even a huge Clausen fan. His arm talent wasn't that good. But he was a winner and as tough as any QB who has played for UT... including your mancrush.

Clausen was a 4 year starter who was better at reading decisions and getting the ball out on time by the middle of his Fr year than JG was at the end of his 3rd year.

I would love for Hurts to come here and the best man wins the job.
If Hurts can help himself and the Vols then I hope he comes. But my motives are a little more Orange related..

Mobility is useless if you have no running game and the QB can't throw.

Calm down. You are off base like usual. We were discussing Rick. Not Casey.

Casey was a good game manager though. He benefited from somw of the best talent we have ever had here.

Rick was terrible.

Why does it have to be one or the other. Do you realize how the O could be ran with both JG&JH on the field at the same time. Talk about keeping the Defense guessing.

Rick Went off in that Texas a&m Bowl game threw for 230 yds and 3tds lol. Your opinion of Casey is spot on though, average qb surrounded by elite talent.

Hurts can throw. And Hurts potentially helps UT's run game with his ability. Think JG except he can actually run effectively.

I would much rather have a great passer who can make good reads and decisions and manage the O to points. But someone who can add the QB run is a step up.

You wanna know how to judge a qb's leadership ability? Watch how the players around him respond to him. Yes, toughness is important but he has 0 ability to impact his teammates and brings no ENERGY!

Honesty I think of he came here and put up solid stats he would make a better case for himself for the nfl. Going to a wife open pass happy system wouldn’t do much for him since pretty much all QBs put up monster stats. Going somewhere that has struggled and being able to put the team on his back and lead them to more wins says a lot more than going somewhere established and just continuing the same doesn’t day much. And going to a Big 12 type O really doesn’t say anything.

That wife open past happy offense is the latest west coast phenomenon.

As far as I'm concerned, he could play QB for us tomorrow, but I don't think it's in his best interests.
Not in his best interest nor ours. If Hurts were to come to UT, Guarantano would likely transfer and we would be without an experienced QB in '20, a year when Pruitt will need to show significant improvement. If I were Pruitt, I wouldn't take Hurts. JG is our best shot at a good 2020.

He is a very average passer. He was surrounded by NFL talent at Bama.

He won't find that at his next stop, but he needs more than what we have. It would be a bad match for him and us.

I am not a big Jalen Hurts fan. Let me say first, I think he is a great person just like Dobbs. But he is not a great QB. He might be a little better running the ball when compared to Dobbs, but he is even worse at throwing the ball.

Clausen 14-1 on the road. 34-10 overall. The ice man was a winner. That's how you judge quaterbacks. Anyone who says Clausen was terrible is a fool
RICK was terrible.

Have people forgotten that we had two Clausens?

No one has ever said Casey was terrible.

Overrated by some? Sure.

Terrible? Not at all.

Good qb. Had a terrible Jr year. Worse than JG's this year.

Good besides that. Had a ton of talent around him.
