RPI and Bracketology

Per D1 projections placing Tennessee is difficult because of all the SEC in the relevant positions

5 Texas
6 Alabama
7 Auburn
8 Texas A&M
10 Florida
14 Mississippi State

Tennessee could really only play:

9 Southern Miss
11 Florida State
12 West Virginia

13 Nebraska
15 Kansas
16 Oregon

We’re not seeded high enough to play KU or Oregon

And UCLA, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina would be pissed to play Tennessee after great seasons.

SMU, FSU, and WVU are the only real options right now with Nebraska only a possibility if they somehow win the B1G tourney in Omaha.

The committee traditionally like to send SEC teams to Tallahassee . The committee has Kentucky going as a 3 seed.

If the bubble bursts on Kentucky in other conference tourneys, I could see Tennessee going there instead and OK state going to USM. People from Stillwater will view Hattiesburg as real living

Florida State and their fanbase have been wanting a piece of us since Blake's check swing in Omaha two years ago; we'd be walking into a hornet's nest

Be careful what you ask for.

(especially if you have a history of struggling against SEC opponents in the post season)

D1 Baseball has a new bracketology out. To me, it feels more right. They shifted Southern Miss down to #10, but kept us in that regional. #8 for them seemed a tad too high. They've got TCU in that regional as well.

They slid Auburn up to #7, which feels about right. Watching Florida right now, it might be good to avoid them, even if it means having to face a tough Auburn team. They've got Florida at #9.

Actually, they have SEC teams seeded from 5-9 with Texas at #5, Alabama at #6, Auburn at #7, Texas A&M at #8, and Florida at #9. I would rather play Bama from that group, but I guess we don't get to be too picky.

The USM bracket is a nightmare for a major reason.

We are paired up with Auburn in Supers.

That school has Tennessee's number in baseball more than any other program. We could be the 1929 Yankees and they could be 2024 White Sox and they still take 2/3.

Plus playing TCU would require a more than pedestrian effort in game 1 that would burn our pen even before we could get to the host team and UIC sucks this year despite being #1 in the MoValley. There are three better teams behind them in the standings (Murray, Indiana St and Illinois St) I hop Murray beats them today. Murray could push USM, this year UIC cannot

Last Four In:
ULL
Kentucky
NC State
Mercer

First Four Out:
Texas State
Troy
Michigan
Kent State

Four to Watch
Purdue
Pittsburgh
Miami (OH)
South Alabama

NC State:
After 1 and done in ACC they dropped nine spots to RPI #51.
Pack really struggled down stretch with series losses to woeful Statnford and to visiting UNC
NC State also canceled a game to avoid RPI drop

Mercer:
Is a very good team with a high RPI (#28)
They were run ruled by Citadel in SoCon tourney and went 1-2 (both losses convincingly to #45 Citadel)
Still far higher in RPI
Did not cancel a game to avoid RPI drop
Texas State.
1 spot behind UK in RPI (37 to 36)
Has at least 2 more games to play
Did not cancel a game to avoid RPI drop

Troy:
Slightly behind at RPI (#41)
Still playing. Have at least 2 games to play and playing SoMiss right now.
Are only 34 PRI pts behind UK and a win over USB gives them 36
Did not cancel a game to avoid RPI drop

Kent State:
#49 RPI
Still playing and winning right now in MAC loser's bracket with another game later if they win
Did not cancel a game to avoid RPI drop

Michigan:
Has no business being considered unless they win Big10 tourney
#52 RPI
Playing Nebraska tonight in Omaha in eleimiation game.

In looking at all these teams and four spots:

ULL
Texas State
Troy
Kentucky

Kent State
Michigan

Michigan or win their tourneys and steal a spot. Kent deserves the tourney and is more likely to win the MAC than UM is to win the Big10 with all the west coast teams still looming.

I also think it HIGHLY possible the committee slaps down NC State and Kentucky for the cancellation shenanigans.

The Sun Belt has five teams in real contention for NCAA tourney- at least RPI wise

So Miss 13
Coastal Carolina 26
Texas State 37
Louisiana 39
Troy 40

And all five of these teams are still standing in the conference tournament.

Troy
Southern Miss (Weather Delay")
Loser plays So. AL
Winner plays the winner of that game.

Coastal Carolina
Louisiana 8pm
Winner Plays Texas State

It's hilarious the way the Kentucky coaches are crowing they have spot sewn up.

Kentucky.....

You may need to keep an eye on the Sun Belt tourney.

Texas State deserves to be in over KenSucky, anyway, because KY canceled a game to falsify its RPI. The day after the letter came out.

Speaking of which, how does Oregon cancel not one but two games (Grand Canyon) to falsify its record and (it looks like) will host? I know the NCAA wants another west coast venue, but penalize the Ducks and give it to the Beavs.

The NCAA sucks. One day they will catch a team that they have it in for and they will hammer them for cancelling a game.

Troy beat So Miss tonight. But it's a double-elimination tourney. I would like to see Troy jump KY-jelly.

So. Miss won a series over UC Santa Barbara. Won the Round Rock Classic, including a win over Oregon St. Beat Alabama. Split with Miss State and Ole Miss. Swept Texas St (who should replace KY and NC State as a last four).

I think one reason we are linked is because of all the SEC teams ranked in a row above them. If So Miss were to move up, it would put us in a regional against whichever SEC team they jump, which they want to avoid. And I don't know how much further they can bump us, if they want to move us up along with So Miss.

This would be our 3rd post season pairing with them in 4 years.
