LMAO...peak delusion or you didn't watch the regular season games - which is it? He struggles against size...that's not conjecture, it's fact and why he lost his starting role and was playing <15 mpg for awhile. To pretend otherwise makes you look foolsih.

Back to my question, has he evolved his post game and learned how to play more efficiently against size or did he benefit against a small IA St. team and an undersized(only 225 lb at 6' 10") shot blocker for VA? We will see...again, I hope it's the former but you are demonstrating incredibly myopic and shallow takes I guess because you thinks it boosts your VN cred somehow (hint: it's doing the opposite).

Factually incorrect for JP...my goodness. Yes, he had games where he shot poorly but applying your logic there are literally no big men in the NCAA who don't have trouble finishing at the rim...lol.

“He struggles against size” as he just played back to back games in the tourney against an overall solid defensive team in Iowa State and one of the most superior post defensive teams in the country with the “size” you say he was awful at.

At the end of the day, you mouth breathers cried all season about Carey being a waste of a spot when he was brought in to make an impact when it mattered most, the NCAA tournament. Mission accomplished. Apparently you have an issue with people putting a priority on NCAA tourney production and impact over the regular season.

Carey is doing exactly what was expected of him. But please tell me more about “not watching games”

Also just to clear any confusion… if you are shocked or surprised at Carey being an impact player during this tournament run, the only explanation is that you live under a rock and don’t actually watch basketball. Not just this season but the last few seasons. Tennessee is getting the exact same Carey they were expecting when he committed to transfer here.

We were essentially a one guard team for two thirds of the season. When the ball left JG's hands we were in trouble. Another problm was JG was more of just a scoring guard than a true point guard. Two things happened within the season that helped this team were Boswell continuing to improve his handle and Coach Barnes developing Gillespie into a true point guard that can still score. I might add that Burg has gotten a little better with the ball but he still scares the crap out of me though. We now can rest JG some while he is still in the game by putting him off the ball as well. There is still no alternative to him playing 38 plus minutes which is still a problem.

Stopped reading at the bolded because you clearly aren't willing to have an honest conversation...I was excited when we got him in the portal and cheered him on during the regular season...super pumped with how he's played the last 2 games. Happy to have him back and see how much more he can develop in the offseason. You want to be right and create false narratives to do so...carry on with your schtick..

“Not willing to have an honest conversation” from someone who apparently is surprised that Carey is being an impact player in the tournament for which is exactly why he was brought in. Like i said, anyone shocked at the impact he is making this tournament run has to live under a rock. Tennessee is getting the exact same player they expected to get when they signed him. But sure, keep bellyaching about meaningless regular season games as if Tennessee was ever going to be a risk of missing the tourney.

You know it’s totally fine to say you’re just a casual fan who occasionally watches games. Anyone that has followed Tennessee and the overall SEC the past couple of seasons is absolutely not shocked or surprised one bit at Carey’s impact for Tennessee in the tournament.

My convo is rather simple and honest. Carey being an impact player for Tennessee in the NCAA tournament was always the expectation. From the minute he committed to transfer here, to the opening game of the regular season, to the opening game of the SEC schedule, to the SEC tourney….. the expectation has always been he is gonna be an impact player. Anyone who takes issue with that or is somehow shocked he is doing what was expected of him in the NCAA Tourney has clearly been living under a rock or just doesn’t know ball. Not sure why that is hard to understand.

Tennessee has gotten the same player they expected to get this season. That is undeniable.

Carey has been playing well and with energy.
I am concerned how he will do today against a taller defender. This is the type of length he has struggled with.

I think Tennessee is getting the player they expected to get in the tournament when they paid to land him last April. But you can't honestly say with conviction they got that player ⅔ of the season. And I've not followed the conversation close enough to know if you are or aren't.

The Carey we've seen vs UVA and ISU is not the Carey we saw for a huge portion of the season. His level of play seems directly tied to his level of engagement. When things go his way early on, he stays locked in. When they don't, he sulks, becomes disengaged, and loses interest.

Hopefully he sees early success today and picks up his own play as a result and we see the fiery version of him we've seen in the last week.

You’re the only one saying/talking like Carey has somehow “turned a corner” this tourney run. That’s foolish. He didn’t have to turn a corner or somehow have an “Aha moment”….

He is playing exactly how anyone who knows ball expected him to coming into the NCAA tourney. And that expectation didn’t change one bit between the first round to all the way back to the first game of this season.

I don’t care about Carey’s regular season game logs. We were always going to be a tourney team and never close to being a bubble team. The only regular season performance that mattered for Carey was his health. And that was A++++

He was brought in to Tennessee at a big price to make an impact in the tourney. The only thing he had to do in between was stay healthy and he did. Once again, no one should be shocked an ounce at his impact. We are getting the player we expected to.

Save your time...only last 2 games matter because that's what we paid for and Carey's improved play definitely has nothing whatsoever to do with the last 2 teams lacking "size" and being the favorable match-ups which were painfully experienced during the reg season.

I think Cade is very valuable to Tennessee's future. The issue I think we had this year was one too many bigs in the rotation. While I'm not pleased with how it happened, his injury caused the rotation to solidify and probably made us a better team. I would say any situation that caused us to go from 5 to 4 helped.

Hopefully his rehab has gone great and will be full steam ahead in the offseason because if we keep Brown, Estrella, Carey, and Phillips, we are effectively set in the post rotation and can load up on scoring wings/guards.
