Roster Construction 2026

Ariel Antigua is crushing the ball in the Appy League. He’s hitting .565 with an OPS 1.368 in 46 plate appearances with 5 doubles, a triple, and a HR. Only 3 Ks and a fielding % of 1.000 mostly at SS but with a couple of games at 2B. Extremely impressive and if he stays healthy, he will be TN’s starting SS in 26.
IF he performs in the preseason. I’ll have to see it to believe it. This fanbases infatuation with AA is something else. I hope the kid has a great fall and preseason, but I haven’t seen anything that shows that he can be a consistent performer in this league especially at the plate. Defensively he’s not exactly lived to the hype either.

His Injuries the last 2 Falls really set him back at the plate.

I hope AA has made the proper adjustments at the plate , you can’t have that big of a leg kick and use it as a timing mechanism and hit SEC caliber pitching , I’m pulling hard for him to be a big contributor, good kid , great teammate

They are currently well over the 34.

Probably will be around 40ish after the draft and then they have to either make tough decisions or figure a workaround
Right now, I’m showing 44 on roster and that’s including:
17 returnees (including Bargo and Chapman)
10 portal transfers
17 freshmen

I’m sure TN will have at least 6 DSAs so that would mean only 4 over. 10 DSAs and they are good to go.

According to Ben McKee, it sounds like the staff plans to start Marin at short & Newstrom at 2nd in the fall. Sounds like Jay has finally given in to the idea of playing CF.

Ford can play corner OF/1B or even 3B if need be.

Be interesting to see how it all shakes out!

So, who plays 3B then in this scenario? I always assumed it would be Newstrom.

Grimmer Bargo or even Ford or Wright. Their plan heading into fall camp isn’t always how it ends up shaking out. In fact it almost definitely will change over the course of fall ball.

Newstrom is very valuable because he can legitimately play any position and that’s going to allow them to get their best bats into the lineup.

I think right now they feel better about the bat of 3rd base options than the 2nd base options and thus that’s likely how they start fall ball

A SEC player just entered the portal. In SEC play, he hit .312, 7 HRs, 11 doubles, with an OPs of .988 and slugging % of .624. He plays LF, 3B, 1B, and can C? Do we want him?

It’s Bargo. Everyone in the SEC would jump to take him IF he could enter the portal. (I took this idea from TOS. It’s not an original thought but can‘t believe I didn’t think of this point).

Some of the commentary in this thread makes me wistful for the days before the influx of FF and RF posters. They have definitely expanded the conversation and bring relevant conversation but sheesh, some of the opinions seem way off base to me.

One other subset I probably fail to consider are the posters within the social circles of incoming athletes, having defined bias toward their significant athlete.

Here’s what I have as a very early possible depth chart. I only listed players once, so while I realize guys will slot at different positions, I was trying to avoid listing them twice for the sake of counting numbers. So, for example, I know Garrett Wright will also slot in the outfield depth chart. The only place I made an exception was at DH, for obvious reasons, so don’t count them against the total #.

This is just my best guess as of now. Obviously, some of these guys will be culled to get to 34. And I’m guessing some freshmen, redshirts, and guys who haven’t been prior contributors will make a jump in the fall and spring to become factors. That almost always happens.

Good work. A few notes I’d add:

1. Blaine Brown will factor in the OF. I think he and Chapman will battle it out for RF.

2. I think Henry Ford will start in LF and 1B will be one of Clark and Stone. This could all change though and Ford could play 1B if they like LF options better

3. Myatt is gonna be in the OF now that MIF is super full

I forgot about Jaxon Walker. Was ranked 94th overall last year by pg. Same ranking as Ethan Moore this year. Any insight on how much he will contribute?

I appreciate this breakdown. I'm excited to see how all this talent shakes out.

Unless I missed something, I think Ryan Combs transferred out.
