The official UT roster now has Perry back on the DL. It’s been updated in the past few days, as he was OL as recent as last fri. Has anyone heard anything about an official move for him?

Maybe JG can play linebacker

Hearing Butler and bumphus are practicing at a high level is encouraging. I’m hoping that out of Middleton, Butler, and Bumphus we have 1 come back next year to help with depth at D-Line. Veteran presence will help with a younger group of D- Lineman.

I’d read that Perry has been impressive at OL, so I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up there. But maybe this cross-training is just to help his development.

Living around the corner from his parents and watching him grow up playing football, I felt all along DE was the best position for him. I think his having good success in high school as a receiver has hurt him at the college level. It's too exciting to see a man with his size and ability to catch the ball to not try him at TE. Had he been locked in at DE I think we would have seen a dominate type player by this time.

Had this exact conversation with a buddy last year...we agreed that if Bumphas had been playing DL from the start, he'd have developed into an All SEC player by now. He's one of those who will really benefit this year from not using any eligibility. He will get another free year of development and I expect he'll become a monster DLineman before his career is over at UT.

I stole this from @Freak on another thread.. But this below could be a reason also.. Needing to cross train in case Covid strikes a position group..

On what they have done to prepare for the possibility of multiple players in a given position group missing a game…

"We've already done some things since we've been here, playing a few guys on both sides of the ball or working them on one side. Last year, Quavaris Crouch played running back, Jeremy Banks has played running back, Aaron Beasley has played running back since he's been here. We've used defensive players as tight ends in short yardage and goal line. You've got to be creative. I feel like if it gets to that point, my high school background will probably create an advantage for us. We've definitely talked about, 'do we need an emergency guy at certain positions?' In fact, I just actually talked to our team about that. It's the reason we practice the way we practice, is to develop the entire team. We've always done that, so we'll continue to do that, and it gives everybody an opportunity to continue to grow as a player."
