Riley to USC…the inevitable Josh Heupel to OU freak out thread

If Heupel bails on White after 1 year, he’s not the man we think he is. White has done far more for Heupel at this point in his career than anyone at Oklahoma ever did. I think CJH stays. He’ll get a big raise ( sorry, but that’s the market these days). White is a strong AD and someone you want on your side.
If he leaves, he’s not the man we think he is?? Come on, man. No one wants him to go, but questioning his character because he takes what most would argue is a better job is amateurish.

I agree with this…

And the great thing about Heup is the exciting football PLUS a good culture/family atmosphere vibe. If he were to dip out on UT and Danny White …..he probably is not the guy behind the clipboard most of us believe he is

How dare he take a job (if offered) that offers immediate playoff contention, 10+ wins, 7-8 million dollars, and stacked roster and recruiting year after year!!!!

Did you feel the same way when he "dipped out" on UCF? I don't want CJH to leave but if he does UT will survive.

Seems like OU fans would be happy with Venables. That would actually be a really beneficial hire for us. Clemson has become what they are by getting the recruits we used to get. Losing Venables would hopefully set them back even further.

Not even a year ago the board blew up when CJH was hired... Now... Wonder how many that hated the hire then are nervous tonight?
Ill own it. I wasn't enamored with the hire. Only because it was bizarre of Danny White spending a good amount of time then brings his own guy. If you truly thought he was your best reasonable option. Do it immediately. However as season emerged after Florida and things started clicking with our offensive quick strike offense. I bought in. Answering your question though. I am not nervous tonight. I feel teams like Oklahoma feel they will be splash worthy. I doubt they see a person they fired as a splash hire. Pride is biting the bullet which I don't think they will do. But as for me I was wrong Heupel was the man for the job. He got butts back in Neyland gave us good qb play for first time in forever. And the ultimate united one of most fractured fanbases in all of college football. I think CJH is our coach for a long time.

The playoff thingy is probably coming to an end soon. So may 10 wins. Tennessee will match $7 mil if necessary. But you don’t do people who have given you two great opportunities to advance you career like this. I guess I was raised different than many of you.

I was highly pissed when Heupel was hired.

Since when? Pete Carroll had to cheat to create a championship caliber team. They’ve had quality coaches since with little to no success. The only chance he has making the playoffs will be if the P12 gets an automatic berth and he backs in.

1. Everyone cheats.

2. USC has not had a quality coach since. Sarkisian might have worked out if he didn't have the drinking issues, but we'll never know. Lane was a dud out there.

3. They still pull elite classes despite not being in CFP contention.

I agree, UT survives either way…but you cannot deny that it would be extremely detrimental.

As for “dipping out” on UCF: I don’t think that is an apples to apples comparison. He was at UCF 3 seasons. Leaving UT after one would not be the same

Things that are different are not the same

I'm with wmcovol (and, I expect, Heupel). Heupel's a multimillionaire. He's earning his millions in part from the commitment to the program that he's inviting and demanding of his players. He can't honorably leave UT for another program less than a year into his tenure.

Why would he take it? Bama will hire Dabo in 2-3 years and Venables can coast to more ACC titles...this year was a fluke imo...they seemed to have righted their ship of late

Hell I know I'm in the minority but I'd be okay with it. I want Heup but Kiffin is a solid plan B

If Kiff happens, we would have a coach with more balls than any coach in the league. I assume he's already got three including that ranger & with the fanbase split on him, who knows how many he'd get.
Shoot, the Vols might never punt on 4th down

I guess you have never been in a position like these coaches. It’s a small community…..

There is nothing to suggest that Tennessee would basically double Heupel’s salary to keep him.

And 2-4 years is a long time. Walking into an playoff contender while getting double the pay next season sure beats maybe at best winning 8-9 games at Tennessee while fighting to recruit. Especially considering OU and Texas are a few seasons away from joining the league.

Tennessee is multiple seasons away from sniffing anything OU can do in one year in regards to 10+ wins or playoff contention.

He was at OU for a long time. Im not sure if that gives him any reason to take the job though. Just wishful thinking on my end. Best thing for us would be a weak Clemson and a strong Miami steal recruits from florida.

Lol at Bama hiring Dabo. Not sure why anyone thinks this. Dabo doesn’t have to leave Clemson at all. Bama offers him virtually nothing more than he has at Clemson outside of a tougher path to the playoff.

Why don't you get off your moral high horse? I don't think CJH is going anywhere but if it's his dream to coach Oklahoma (and no knows if it is) then you couldn't blame him if they offered and he took it. Any of us, you included, would take the job of our dreams if offered. It has nothing to do with the way anyone was raised, get over yourself.

Saban's replacement will be Kiffin. You heard it here first.

AD White just needs to say two words “Scott” “Frost”
Was building a playoff caliber program to go “home” where his golden boy image has now tarnished

Comparing Nebraska to OU is dumb. They fired 9-4 Pelini and have been in the desert ever since. OU is literally about to have a 3rd coach in what, 20 years and it ain’t because of firings or losing records.

Love these people who feel that their lives are so connected and impacted by what a college sporting coach’s decisions are. Some of these people act like Heupel decides whether they wake up or not each day

It’s just a fact, Jack. Every reason you and others gave involved numbers & what’s in it for him; wins, money, CFP etc. You never mentioned people.

I think Heupel is a people person. He seems to have that skill. He shows people and relationships are important to him. I think that will make the decision.

? Sark's "talent" is on full display at Texas. From what I hear the Texas boosters are kicking themselves for firing Herman now. I don't think anyone in LA misses him either, save a few liquor store owners.
