Ricky Gibson to miss an extended period of time...

Colton Hood is a much better corner, anyway! JMO
He had a good game but "much better" is discounts Gibson too much. Gibson is a good corner. If he and McCoy can get back on the field, we'll have the best secondary in the SEC. We'll need them in November when our playoff fate is decided (Oklahoma, Florida, Vanderbilt)

They play at the same time. You need, need, need depth to survive an SEC season. Heupel needs to at least explore the injury issue. Whatever his running backs are doing, the rest of the team needs to do. When is the last time a RB had a significant injury, and they are the highest contact skill position.

OSU Playoff game when they were kicking our butts???? Like, literally the prior game.

It wont matter.

The way the Voldawgs in here roll over and show your belly at anything related to the program run out of Buttsmehre Hall befuddles me. Why give your heart to a trash program with zero personality? I just don't get it. But you be you!

I here shoulder joint!

Could affect his pocket presents. At least he isn't a Pre-Madonna.

Helps for sure, but when you have guys injured before spring and fall camp even begins it makes one ask questions. Is it the training program? Injury prone players? Is the NIL an issue somehow someway? Are guys sitting when they're "hurting" vs being truly "injured"? Dunno but I just don't remember things always being this bad on the injury front.

A serious take: I think we have way too many 'friends and family' on this staff, and that includes conditioning coaches. Some injuries are inevitable, of course, in a violent game like football. But we have seemed pre-season soft since Heupel got here. Maybe worth a look?

RBs are also built specifically to absorb hits. They are on average 15-20 lbs heavier and they are conditioned to absorb hits.

Im not gonna expect much from him and if he balls out I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
He's a top 5 talent every time he steps on the field. Unless you are questioning his desire to play, then I don't know why you would expect Boo to play poorly. Him pouting or dogging it in the game does not benefit him at all if indeed he is looking to move on in December.

Disappointing. Think this defense could be elite if we could stay healthy, but with Hobbs injured, Moi sidelined, Boo working his way back, and McCoy still a few weeks out this is a big blow. Hope we can get healthy soon.
Who on this list will be back for GA?

So you’re saying there’s actual training to make you more durable?
No, that is not what I am saying.

For one, a RB, by design, is built to absorb hits. It's something that the vast majority of them have been doing since they were freshman in high school. It's not a skill or a trait that you can just gain with a few extra practice sessions in the off-season.

Secondly, you would never train a CB the same way you train a RB. It's an entirely difference skill set. RBs need a strong base, which, among other things, helps them absorb hits. CBs on the other hand need to be lighter and more lean, and therefore are often the fastest players on the field. That's why they are much lighter than RBs. You have got to be twitchy and have quick hips. Being smaller naturally makes you more prone to injury in a sport where people try to knock each others head off every play.

I didn’t say I expect him to play poorly, what I was trying to say is I am going keep my expectations in check and be surprised if he balls out. To be fair, I do this with just about every player.

With the way heupel is about being hush on injuries, I would expect Gibson out for regular season

Depends on if the blue hairs in the expensive seats get off their rears and glue their dentures in tightly I suppose.
Never understood the animosity held by some on here towards a group of fans who have been and are still hardy supporters of UT. Since I am firmly entrenched in the group of Boomers and Blue Hairs I resent the rampant millennial take on us. Come see us when you have supported as long as we have junior.

Maybe I’ll come see you and tell you to learn to take a joke instead. Settle down “pops”. We are all fans of the same team and if you pay for a ticket I couldn’t care less if you sit the entire game; it was a joke. But I’ll also stand by my point that homefield advantage occurs when the crowd makes it miserable for the opposing offense.

Oh geez guys, it was a joke. I save the real insults for Bama, Florida and Georgia fans. Besides I’m in my forties and I’ve been supporting Tennessee football for 35+ years myself. I’m not exactly young.
You’re good with me. I’m a boomer, barely, and pick at the “blue hairs” constantly in the LV bb forum.

.
Two points worth noting. One is when one has to say it was a joke it probably wasn’t. Two is when it is felt necessary to continue to make derogatory remarks I serves to prove my assertion even more. I can agree with your last statement however.

Two more points worth noting:

1. The “blue hairs not being loud” joke has been a running gag on this forum for years (particularly in the basketball forum).
2. You started the derogatory talk by referring to me as “junior”. I was simply firing back.

If I offended you with my initial post then I sincerely apologize. As I stated before, we are fans of the same team after all. GBO.

I think Ricky is kind of overrated, especially for a guy wearing #1, but we are definitely going to miss him on the field against SEC teams.
