Would a Rick Barnes hire make you happy?

The best thing to ever happen to Tennessee basketball. From all accounts an outstanding person on and off the court. Bruce brought the excitement and showed what the program was capable of, but Barnes brought stability and showed that Tennessee is truly a place you can win at a high level and sustain that success.

I'm pretty sure more people than not thought RB was a questionable hire. Heck, I did. He was older and it's easy to think his best years were behind him based on how his last few years at Texas played out.

If most people are honest, best case scenario they wanted him to come in and stablize the program and set it up for the next guy. Even the most excited about the hire probably didn't think he'd do this well.

Right guy at a time we were in need of a solid coach. This teams he has produced all different. One Constant---Defense. Not always pretty but sure made for some great seasons, Barnes has got a great eye for talent that fits his needs to make it constant. All the Nay sayers should just let it go and be grateful Barnes came to Tennessee and choose to stay here when UCLA came calling.

-Ben Jacobson
-Bobby Hurley
-Brad Underwood

Jaconson - Still at Northern Iowa and will probably never do any better. Hasn't been to the NCAAT in 9 years.
Hurley - Still at Arizona St., been to 4 NCAATs total, 3 at ASU, and never gotten out of the Round of 64. His only 2 wins were in the FIrst Four and all 3 appearances at ASU have been as a First Four.

Underwood - Doing well at Illinois, might see him again in 5 days.

Bumping post from 10 years ago is wildddd haha
Yeah, it’s honestly needless toxicity lol. How dare people 10 years ago not get everything right?

I’m cool with people going back to their own poorly aged opinions and laughing about how wrong they were. But digging up decade old posts just to mock people for being wrong is just immature. Most of these people are well aware they were wrong by now.

It's kinda fun tbh. Looking at some of the names that aren't even coaching major college ball anymore, is crazy. Reminder that the "young rising star" coach doesn't always pan out.

I agree that it’s fun to read it. I’m sure I’d have said something really funny if I was active on this board in 2015 that I’d laugh at today. I just mean that responding to decade old takes with stuff like “lmao” is really dumb and especially pointless if it’s in response to people who aren’t even active around here anymore

Yeah, I have made some banger posts that aged poorly. Some are on that thread, actually. Only one I responded to was my own. I looked to see if/what I posted at that time.

Also, not only are some of those posters no longer active, I know at least a couple that are sadly no longer living.

Again, Mears did that in the late 1960s

What's up now?

You've been holding on to this from 10 years ago? The point?

Ragging on the hire in 2015 isn't something out of left field. Barnes was tailing off in mediocrity at the end of his Texas years and was 61 years old. Acting like he was a sure deal then is some serious revisionism. In 2015, he was a coach with a middle of the road program nearing retirement, and his best years were a decade behind him, not even making it past the first weekend of the tournament in 8 years.

Turns out he badly needed a change of scenery and had more than a few years left in him. He's done great. I'm fine with being wrong, but it wasn't for being stupid or some heedless negativity. In any event, I'm enjoying the third straight Sweet 16 as much as any Vol fan.

Crazy how names we thought were big back then are just a candle in the wind now

Totally agree. People are too sensitive

Seems like you're triggered?

Those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it.

People getting too upset. It was more kind of like a joke type thing. All of us are happy Barnes is a great coach here.

It's just funny to go back and see the takes from back then, that's all
