Who gives a crap if he can't do anything with them? He had Kevin Durant, one of the 5 best players in the world currently, and A.J. Abrams, Dion James, etc. and lost by 20 to Southern Cal in the 2nd round of the tournament. He's a terrible, TERRIBLE, coach outside of collecting some talent on the roster.
Yea but to double down with the Dabo referenceOh well, win some, lose some. I had been in a roll, lamenting the hires of Dooley, Jones, Tyndall and Holly from the get go. I was just ok with Cuonzo, which was about how he did, and like the Pruitt hire very much. Barnes getting a second wind in his career has been wonderful for us, but he was sucking wind and past 60 when we hired him. It wasn't an outrageous take I had.
Also, I hate to point it out, but he still hasn't gotten past the first weekend since 2008. He should this year, but don't go jinxing this thing yet. Ask Virginia.
Quoted for irony
They are proven to be excellent coaches in the mid majors. Why hire Barnes because he's been around a long time and done nothing that great? The ceiling is significantly higher with those guys than it is with Barnes.
I'm telling you, though, we will kick ourselves for not getting Hurley, if we have the chance. Someday, we'll say "You mean we chose the guy who had us at 19-10 every year over Hurley?", if we go the, supposedly, safe route with Barnes.
Pearl was a mid-major hire and he coaches circles around Barnes. The last two hires sucked because the people hiring them didn't properly vet the coaches. Martin had never been in the tournament and Tyndall has the NCAA issues. Hurley, Underwood, Jacobson have all been successful and made the tournament already at lower level jobs.
Hell, if making the tournament is the only requirement, sign those dudes up. They've already done it and actually made some hay recently in the Big Dance, unlike Barnes.

Wasn't trying to pick on you as I'm sure I have some of my own posts that are failures over the years, especially during the Butch Jones era. However, I just loved your double miss in one post with Barnes & Sweeney.
