Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

You can be a devout Christian and live in a major city. Faith isn’t limited to rural, southern life. As another poster mentioned, ever been to Austin? One of the most liberal cities in America.
Yeah, he can just live in Orange County. It’s basically Brentwood (TN) with its own baseball and hockey teams, and much nicer weather.

Tennessee won’t bring back Pearl if Barnes leaves.
Bruce refused to cooperate with Auburn’s internal investigation over Chuck Person. Tennessee would have probably fired Bruce for that. Auburn apparently decided he’s winning enough to be above it all.

Yet Person isn’t coaching at Auburn

To show that level of disrespect to someone that's done nothing but rep Tennessee to the fullest and improve this dumpster fire of a program really shows how childish you are. Grow up.

If he leaves to go to UCLA then he is the enemy and deserves no respect. I know he’s been given EVERYTHING he needed to be successful and glad he has been. But this would be a stab in the bag. Read it again. IF is a big word in the post.

Food for thought.this was the same thing that was done by other possible candidates during the OC search (Freeze) that wanted the job and was denied the job and put out reports like this to save face.barnes more than likely has been the only one to interview and possibly on the verge of locking it up👀👀🐸☕

Its like Ive always told my wife. Dont fall in love with coaches and players because they'll leave you. Fall in love with the team or program. I shouldnt be surprised by this. Im damn near 40 years old. I know better. I just didnt think Barnes would do it. I truthfully thought he had 3 years at best left in him.

Orange Co. is quite a ways from UCLA which is near Beverly Hills. I believe USC is either in Orange Co. or nearby.

I wouldn’t be mad at him for taking that job. It would suck losing him but hard to pass up UCLA if they are interested.

Wow. What a shocking development. It's too early to assume it's happening, but I can only imagine the fallout within the program. I can't imagine the Vols winning 30+ again with a new coach and replacing at least two starters. And imagine if Grant/Bone leave. Gosh, would be a disaster.

You are simply, wrong. The cost of living index in the US is based on a scale where 100 is the median. It's 93 in Knoxville, 110 in Nashville and 130 in Austin. Los Angeles is higher, but Austin is a much more huge liberal city in both feel and cost than anywhere in Tennessee. Barnes and his wife had no issues living there for 17 years and if he wasn't fired, he'd still be living there now. The gist of the argument that some people are making is that Barnes wouldn't leave because he likes small town southern life. His long tenure in Austin says that is not correct.

Austin has very high housing costs due to the influx of tech sector jobs, but TX has no state income tax.

See, that’s why we need a VFL as head coach. One who will only leave if he gets fired and even then will still come back!

I will be curious how Phil handles this. Don't forget, Fulmer served under Doug Dickey, and Dickey's only concern was football. Will Fulmer be the same, or will he realize we're capable of being a multi-sport school?

Can’t blame Barnes for taking the job if he does. He would walk into coaching Moses Brown, Tyler Campbell, and maybe Jaylen Hands comes back. He also will have a couple of 4 stars. If he gets JJJ to go with him he will have a very good team.

Hard to believe, but there may be some false information floating around on this coaching search.
The article that started it all said that Krueger and Barnes were interviewed. Yeah, I agree, lots of false info-- don't know which is which right now.

Barnes is too straightforward to be playing some grand leveraging game here...he's not going to go about his business that way at this stage. He's gone.
Phil Fulmer needs to get ready to talk to Leonard Hamilton,Bruce Pearl,Kermit Davis and Kentucky assistant head coach Kenny Payne. Talking to them would be a great start in the next head coaching search. I would also like Phil Fulmer to talk to Tony Bennett,Steve Prohm and North Carolina assistant coach Steve Robinson.

No, USC is relatively close to South Central. Sure it’s a commute, but it’s not like he has to be in his cube by 8 am.
