Yeah, he can just live in Orange County. It’s basically Brentwood (TN) with its own baseball and hockey teams, and much nicer weather. You can be a devout Christian and live in a major city. Faith isn’t limited to rural, southern life. As another poster mentioned, ever been to Austin? One of the most liberal cities in America.
To show that level of disrespect to someone that's done nothing but rep Tennessee to the fullest and improve this dumpster fire of a program really shows how childish you are. Grow up.
If he leaves to go to UCLA then he is the enemy and deserves no respect. I know he’s been given EVERYTHING he needed to be successful and glad he has been. But this would be a stab in the bag. Read it again. IF is a big word in the post.
You are simply, wrong. The cost of living index in the US is based on a scale where 100 is the median. It's 93 in Knoxville, 110 in Nashville and 130 in Austin. Los Angeles is higher, but Austin is a much more huge liberal city in both feel and cost than anywhere in Tennessee. Barnes and his wife had no issues living there for 17 years and if he wasn't fired, he'd still be living there now. The gist of the argument that some people are making is that Barnes wouldn't leave because he likes small town southern life. His long tenure in Austin says that is not correct.
See, that’s why we need a VFL as head coach. One who will only leave if he gets fired and even then will still come back! Its like Ive always told my wife. Dont fall in love with coaches and players because they'll leave you. Fall in love with the team or program. I shouldnt be surprised by this. Im damn near 40 years old. I know better. I just didnt think Barnes would do it. I truthfully thought he had 3 years at best left in him.
Phil Fulmer needs to get ready to talk to Leonard Hamilton,Bruce Pearl,Kermit Davis and Kentucky assistant head coach Kenny Payne. Talking to them would be a great start in the next head coaching search. I would also like Phil Fulmer to talk to Tony Bennett,Steve Prohm and North Carolina assistant coach Steve Robinson.Barnes is too straightforward to be playing some grand leveraging game here...he's not going to go about his business that way at this stage. He's gone.
