Rick Barnes has emerged as a serious candidate the for UCLA job, reportedly has interviewed

I’ve always been very ambivalent about PF being AD, but if this happens, it will go a long way to confirming or refuting my fears. Have always worried about him with respect to basketball. There is no doubt that he cares about the football program and will act in good faith in decision making for it, but I never got the warm fuzzies about his commitment to basketball. We’ll see.

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. LA is in the top ten, Austin is cheaper than Nashville and Knoxville is a lot less.

You are simply, wrong. The cost of living index in the US is based on a scale where 100 is the median. It's 93 in Knoxville, 110 in Nashville and 130 in Austin. Los Angeles is higher, but Austin is a much more huge liberal city in both feel and cost than anywhere in Tennessee. Barnes and his wife had no issues living there for 17 years and if he wasn't fired, he'd still be living there now. The gist of the argument that some people are making is that Barnes wouldn't leave because he likes small town southern life. His long tenure in Austin says that is not correct.

Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger has been interviewed for the UCLA head coaching job, according to Ben Bolch of the Los Angeles Times.
Yeah, he’s saying both interviewed and Barnes is frontrunner. I don’t see Barnes’ faith and his comfortable job here being that comfortable in CA

It was important to me that Des Oliver made the same amount of money as” fellow assistant Michael Schwartz, Barnes told USA TODAY Network - Tennessee. “I just felt those two positions needed to be equal. They felt it wasn’t in the budget. I just said, ‘I am going to pay it myself.’”

This was pre Fulmer right?

Similar to what’s been hinted at here, I’d guess that Barnes is using his leverage to get more $, maybe not for himself but for his staff

Agree. Even though Tennessee isn't considered a "basketball school", losing Barnes, especially to a left for dead program like UCLA, is a really bad look.
I don't want Barnes to leave, but don't underestimate the history of UCLA. Eleven NCs in their history. Granted, the last one was in the 90's, but I can see bringing them back to greatness as a draw for some coaches. I hope Barnes stays, but if he does leave, I like the positivity of Dari Nowkah's tweet. Guess we'll see what happens.
