Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

When the team is this ice cold, it's hard to blame Barnes. However, I do blame him for the blunder of not calling a timeout after a 13-2 run.

Nate Oates has yet to make it further than Sweet 16 as well so don't sing his praises.

If anything Musselman is the best SEC coach right now making three straight Sweet 16s with two of those to Elite 8.

Also have zero doubt that K-state beats FAU by 20 minimum. You just know it’s gonna happen lol

It's time to use the momentum we have and get a new age coach.... That offense is getting worse each year with Barnes getting better talent than when he started here...

Barnes crapped the bed.

Whatever you say. I'm not going to about about it.It's irrelevant. It's another frustrating loss in March to a team I thought Tennessee was better than. It didn't work out like that. FAU was the better team tonight and they'll possibly be against Kansas St. It was a well coached game on their end. Tennessee didn't execute on offense and FAU did what they have done all year.... Hit clutch shots.

They could have possibly done more on the coaching end. Barnes did turn into Roy Williams not calling a timeout until it was a 15-2 run. I'll say this.Tennessee was like Michigan St. They were overachievers in this tournament who both had a up and down year, but both beat teams in the tournament nobody saw them beating. It's great to have expectations of wanting to be a better program, but at the same time, they've never reached a Final Four in their history. Tennessee is not Duke,UCLA or North Carolina. Barnes will get you there. His tournament resume Is frustrating, but at a program like Tennessee, having a chance to get there and prove doubters wrong before he retires is why he's the perfect fit. He's a quality coach in an era where they're hard to come by.

All of those things you just listed are possible BECAUSE of Barnes bringing our program from the grave…..
Barnes did not bring our program from the grave. Pearl is the one that packed the arena and brought relevance in the 21st century to TN basketball. Yes, Barnes has done some good things, but it is time to move on. Who cares what you do in the regular season if you continue to fail in the tournament year in and head out. The ONLY time he’s ever been to the final 4 is when he had Kevin Durant. And he’s been coaching forever. 18-2 run with no timeouts is inexcusable no matter what the situation is

Oh shut up already

We have the most toxic and irrational fan base around

Barnes just took a crippled team to the sweet 16 without their PG, that in itself is truly amazing. Barnes wasn't the one who got outrebounded tonight. Barnes wasn't the one missing shots.

I think some people like it more when Barnes loses than he wins. It's clowns like you that ruin great things.

With a team that plays defense like we do, there is a very high floor. It should contend for NCAA bids at a minimum most years.

With a team that plays offense like we do, there is a low ceiling.

Until there are changes made to the offensively philosophy or a perfect storm of players, a Sweet 16 is likely the ceiling...

No, he went to the final four at Texas when he had TJ Ford, Brandon Mouton, and Royal Ivey.

Exactly. There’s no excuse other than they choked. And it’s becoming a common theme. It is what it is. Live in denial all you want people. I’m not saying fire Barnes because quite frankly who are we gonna go get thats head and shoulders better? But it’s starting to be painful to watch this. It’s painful because of how much I do like Barnes and the way he runs the program. I want to see him succeed more than anybody but dude doesn’t have it for whatever reason. It’s baffling.
It’s brutal. Think he’s a great guy, but there is no way we should lose a game the way we did tonight. They made us look stupid in the 2nd half.

I don’t need excuses. I generally look at the big picture and don’t react like an 8 year old girl to every defeat.

What's that? You don't have one because it is indefensible to go to 5 tourneys and lose to a lower seed each time.

That is what I thought.

Like the guy, but he is not the answer.

I've seen this take several times, and I think it's stupid. This exact mentality is what led to our football woes over the past 15+ years.

True but that is pretty damn embarrassing consider schools like Florida Gulf Coast, VCU, George Mason, Butler (2x), etc. have Final Fours and they have a fraction of the resources that are available to Knoxville.

Hey my post got moved to this thread, I wasn’t gonna hit it up. I was just reacting in the game thread where you react emotionally lol. But the season is over. It’s gonna be a topic of conversation. Exhausting or not. I’ve always took up for Barnes for the most part. But im just over the crappy March track record. FAU, Oregon State, Michigan, Loyola, Okay. It’s March madness. Upsets happen. But that’s too damn many head scratchers.

A few days earlier....
I made that post before realizing it was possible for Barnes to have another epic collapse 18-2 run after leading the majority of this game. It’s embarrassing and how so many of you accept it is sad. His record speaks for itself. Get some fresh blood in here. Don’t need a 70 year old man with horrible tournament record leading us anymore
