Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

It’s not a great track record. But we’ve got to be self aware enough to recognize that our history isn’t great and Tournament basketball is a crapshoot.

This. If we had a history of Final Four runs, then I would be a Barnes basher. That’s not the case, though.

It’s ignorant to want Barnes gone for not making a Final Four when the program has never made one before. Heck, we have only come close once.

That’s the first time in Barnes career at UT he’s done what he’s supposed to do in the tourney by the seeding. And we still end up losing to a seed that’s much lower than us. FAU has beaten seeds higher than them 3 times in this tourney alone. Barnes hasn’t done it once at UT. he was fired at Texas after 18 years because of what’s happening right now
I never said otherwise. I posted the same exact thing last year after they lost to Michigan and was called a “Barnes hater.” He has a long history of failing to live up to his seed in the tournament. He deserves a lot of criticism for his post season flame outs, I just don’t think that this year qualifies as such.

Can we all agree we have reached the zenith with this guy l? And he had taken us as far as he can. He’s almost 70 and I think it’s time we well Danny White sends Rick into retirement. His offense is boring yea I know he recruits well but I think after 9 seasons it’s gotten stale. Time to find a more younger and energetic offensive minded coach like Nate Oates. Looking at Barnes tonight he looked a little lost and tired during critical points in the game and then he calls a timeout much to late after FAU builds their lead to 10.

We all wanted this year to end different. I think we all feared this game because it seems like this is the one we always lose. It sucks. But no matter what we’re all still UT fans. Hats off to FAU.

I want a final four as bad as anyone on this board, but getting to one isn’t as simple as firing Barnes like you seem to believe. Besides, we’re getting a little too big for our britches if we fire a coach for failing to make the final four when this program has never gone to a final four in the first place.
It’s never been to one and it won’t ever make one with Barnes either. It’s time to move on like Texas did. I’d rather get a young and hungry HC with a chance to either flop or take us to the next level then rinse and repeat with Barnes. We will never make a final 4 with him. This is his ceiling

Shhh! They'll call you a Barnes HATER because we live in a society that doesn't understand that 2 things can be true at once.
We like Barnes and also know how it's going to end.

I am fine with it LOL. Been getting ripped as a coach hater and nega since about 2005.

I truly respect Barnes and like the guy but got ripped last week for saying he is getting up in age and lacks the fire he had years ago.

Sure didn't see anything tonight to convince me otherwise.

It was a fine season. Not spectacular, not special. But solid. It’s frustrating to see another terrible offensive performance in the tournament but there’s no point bitching about the offense because it’s never going to change.

They did a good job rallying without Zakai. I’m hoping Aidoo and Mashack take big steps next year. Team can be really good if they find a PG without Ziegler next year. Phillips needs to come back and get in the gym.

Also, I hope Uros never plays another minute at the University. He’s a blight on this program. He’s an embarrassment. He’s a punk and if he played on a different SEC team this board would want him hung from the gallows.

They won't fire Barnes. Who would you hire though?
Good question I’m not sure who’s out there that is a hot candidate but I would go after a Nate Oates type coach who scores alot and has a exciting up tempo offense. Barnes offense will put you to sleep sometimes it’s still better than the Kevin O’Neil days though but it’s boring and Rick ain’t getting any younger.

In comparison to this program’s history, getting to the tournament every year, sending guys to the NBA consistently, and living inside the top 20 is a pretty good ceiling.

Ok some of you putting down the fire Barnes crowd aren't doing much better yourself. The Who We Gonna Git argument has been played out since the Butch Jones days.

Barnes deserves equal credit and blame. They play tough d thanks to him, but disappear on the offensive end too much.

Some of you are ok with never getting past the Sweet Sixteen because we were so terrible in the past. I was until he played hardball with his contract. You want to get paid that much you better deliver results.

I don't want him fired, but not sure early exits to lower seeded teams is worth the big contract either.

Again, no aspirations to reach the next level. I guess we might as well stop asking fans to support NIL

A discussion about the offense and the offensive philosophy is fair. In his past 15 years, Barnes has had 1 offense that could contend for natty (based on KenPom efficiency metrics).

A discussion about firing Barnes is silly though...
