Report: Joe Doyle in the transfer portal

I wanted to come through my TV set and strangle Paxton Brooks when he dropped that punt earlier this season. Seemed like he was really short on alot of punts late in the season also... Had alot of disdain for him until "bunt right" in the bowl....

It’s a very productive tactic
John Majors still ranks high as one of Tennessee's All Time great punters...statistically...on the strength of his quick kicks as a single wing tailback. I've seen him get off quick kicks that looked like they just barely cleared the safety man's head. They would land as tail draggers..take off, and roll for 25 or 30 yards...No run back. It can happen. Nowadays though, it is all about stealing possessions, which is fine.

This kid was a freshman All-American in 2018

With our luck he transfers to one of UGA/UF/BAMA and finds his mojo again..

That's the only thing I'm afraid of. Rather him go to the ACC or Big 12 or at least an SEC West team that's not Bama.

I honestly think he was the better Punter between him and Brooks; but the staff might just not be willing to give out a 2nd scholarship to a Punter, when we already have a reasonably good one. And while Doyle might be a slightly better Punter than Brooks, Brooks is most definitely the better kickoff specialist.

In an age of strict scholarship limits, it was sort of a tricky situation, because most teams don't have 2 good Punters like that. (And the funny thing is, we used to have Tommy Townsend, as well, before he left for Florida, so we've been absurdly good at finding Punters).

Hard to understand a punter coming up with a 24 yard punt unless he was under duress. What do they do , just take their eye of the ball like receivers do sometimes?

The 24 yarder was a rugby style punt (low punt intended to bounce/roll downfield) that hit one of our coverage guys in the back, so he didn't get the benefit of the downfield roll. Brooks was supposed to punt it higher to clear the coverage guy's head.

I remember that now.

Good luck to him, no scholly after an all american season would be insulting and certain to affect desire, He could only ask himself why, after all I would think almost any lineman could be trained to long snap, yet a scholarship was given this year.

Brooks had a 24 yarder in the bowl game that could have killed us... special teams were great this year other than punting.

We are punter U... have 3 starters in the NFL...we need a new kid to step up and start flipping the field for us...please...

Don't wanna go OT here. But whyyyyy do we use Brooks in a rugby style run and kick scenario like last week? Dude is 6.6 and looks totally uncomfortable in the role. Why not let the guy do what he does?

Is RS punting designed as a option to throw off defenses. UI had an elite returner and we did a good job avoiding him. Is it to avoid a return? I just don't get it.

Not surprised. Was shocked and thought he was injured when they benched him this year. Thought he had been solid the year before and up to the point before benching.
wagtched him in pregame warm uips and he had a terrible time punting the ball. Somewhere over the off season, he lost his ability to punt the ball. Don't know any of the details but it was not pretty in warm ups.
