Report: Florida already discussing firing Napier

Franklin would be a risky hire imo. His record be top 20 teams is putrid.

He will play 4-5 ranked teams each Saturday during SEC play.
Florida has gotten to the point where they can't be super picky, much like we were after Butch and then even worse after Pruitt. We were able to hit the jackpot with Heup.

If UF wants a proven P4 HC, it's likely gonna be someone with some warts (ala Fisch or Franklin). Or they can dip their toe back into the G5 pool and try to pull whatever HC misses out on the playoffs (probably Memphis, USF, or Tulane). Or they can go the coordinator route with someone like Will Stein from Oregon. Or there is always Chip Kelly too, lol.

Maybe he wants to win a championship? His pool of recruits would be larger at florida.
Plus, he's old and old dudes wanna live in florida
That last statement is not true at all. My daughter has begged me for three years to leave East Tennessee and there is no comparison to that hot sticky hell hole. And I am old.

Chip Kelly hates recruiting and turned down UF before they hired Mullen.

I would be shocked if he even gets a call. He's best off where he is.

In fairness, I think any team would struggle playing 4-5 games every Saturday, ranked or unranked. Not enough Gatorade on the planet to get those kids through 4 games per day.

Theoretically Florida could pay Franklin something stupid low since Penn State would owe any difference in his new salary and his $50M buyout. Florida could then use the extra to poach amazing coordinators and pump up their NIL.

He made the semis last year. That's the move I'd make.

I read a Florida reporter who covers the team suggest that the boosters are the ones who leaked that Napier is getting canned on Sunday to put pressure on the UAA to make the move. No idea if accurate. It is interesting though and it does fit with how dysfunctional that program is.

Honestly, it's a lot less attractive job than it was five or ten years ago. The conference schedule, especially with 9 conference games, is brutal, combined with high expectations at Florida, combined with the apparent disfunction of the university leadership, makes for a risky career move if you are a coach who is already established. Yes, Florida is rich in talent. But, you've got the resurgence of Miami, and a Florida State that may or may not be a competitor. The talent richness is also offset in this NIL/portal era, where locality to talent seems to matter less as time goes on.

Cignetti would be crazy to take the Florida job on. He has the resources to succeed at Indiana. Is doing things that no coach has done there in my memory. He doesn't have the expectations that come with a Florida job. And he only has to play 2-3 good teams a year.

I doubt Kiffin would take it on, maybe two or three years ago he might have, but he has it pretty good at Ole Miss now.

I could see Franklin, because he is out of a job.

They would probably go after Fisch. It makes the most sense.

At the time of his hiring, I thought Sam Pittman was an extreme reach as a head coach.

Looking back in time, I guess Billy was as well for a Power-5 school. Think several bigger name guys turned it down.

Hope they let that current AD pick another one.

Probably right. Then again, if UF offers Kiffin or Cignetti, the contract will have be around 10M or more per year to bring them in. Just my .02.

Now that is a good list.

Yes, I see a Golish type moving to trailer park town.

Who gets Arkansas? Motorcycle Man?

Florida 247 mod says that none of this stuff about a decision having been made on Napier is coming from Stricklin or the UAA. It's boosters putting pressure on the UAA to do what needs to be done. Mercy, what coach is going to want to sign up for that?

Well

If it doesn’t work out for the next UF coach, then they walk away with more money than they know what to do with just like Napier is about to.

Clark Lea would be who I would go for if I was one of these big time programs. Objectively he has made Vandy a legitimate squad with less talent. Think if he had the resources and recruiting classes he could make some noise somewhere

This level of delusion is deserving of psychiatric study. Reality is going to hit so hard for these folks.

Florida fan on 247:

"I agree 100%. Lane is already creating distance intentionally between himself, the administration and the fans, primarily the students because he knows the UF offer is going to come and he knows he’s going to take it IMO. When he made that remark about the students not coming to the game and the stadium being half empty, when they are undefeated and #4 in the nation, he knew exactly what he was doing."

As long as they’re willing to keep him around I think Lea sticks with Vanderbilt. It’s truly a dream job for him and I admire him for valuing what Vandy means to him more than a couple extra million.

That fan is delusional to believe all of that from reading between the lines.
