Remember JP is a rookie hc

We could have had that fine coach from Ohio State. Let's all remember that!

Coulda....woulda..shoulda with a lot of coaches. Was totally against Schiano though. Totally mediocre coach other than a couple of seasons he had Ray Rice. OSU didnt even want to hand him the keys during Meyers suspension.

I just have zero expectation of loyalty from any head coach anymore. Wouldn't shock me a bit if Pruitt bolted if he gets things going here in short order.

This was some dry humor on my part. I'm glad to have Coach P. Let's just see how he handles the hard times.

Any time a rookie head coach takes over the first year is a trial and error year. Who really thinks he could out coach Muschamp? Really? He is figuring it out. But I'm tired of UT hiring first time coaches. I know he's the 28th choice but maybe they need to address this issue.

Florida paid 6 mil a year to get Mullen

We are not paying that.

Malzahn?

He did out-coach Muschamp. We had a chance to win at the end of an SEC road game at night despite being dominated on both sides of the line of scrimmage. That’s a good coaching job. Muschamp’s seat would’ve gotten hot if he’d of lost that game.
He s not getting fired this year unless he just blows up the rest of the year but hes far from comfortable. The curse of Spurriers success.

UCLA 2-6
Nebraska 2-6
TN 3-5
FSU 4-4

It's who they lost to... and how they lost. FSU was blown out by VT and Syracuse . Their wins were Wake Forest , NIU, Samford, and juggernaut Miami. Those comparisons have to be a joke.

Kirby smart was 6 - 6 his first year. So was Saban at Bama in 2007. Pruitt is doing a pretty good job for a first year head coach. Our linemen need another year in the weight room and we need a couple of more recruiting cycles and we will be fine. This is year zero. A throw away year.

Seriously, who hires someone like Phil Fulmer or the trophy case stacked Jeremy Pruitt? Stick with guys that have Head Coaching experience like Dooley and Butch.

Mullen turned us down. There was no major HC willing to take the job. So there is that.

I absolutely agree.
There are places it will be easier to turn around.
Although I think Mullen would have taken this job for 6 mil.
We’re just not going to pay for a proven coach.

Not sure what to expect anymore. Get in really good recruiting classes for years and still are way behind.

But I just read on VN just this morning that Mike Leach had already agreed to be our next head coach, but Phil went with Jeremy instead.

Didn't we offer Gundy 7?

In my opinion his biggest issue right now is he needs to be a head coach and not head coach/DC. His job is to build and coach a team. I don't see how a first year coach can do both while learning on the job. I don't think he realizes yet that he is not going to get the benefit of the doubt from the refs like they always got at Alabama.

I don’t believe it was a penny more than 4.9.

I don't remember where or by whom I heard it, but I was convinced it was true.

It doesn't matter though, really. We have Jeremy and he should get at least until the end of next season before people start talking about him the way some already are.

Not trying to get points at the end of the half was on the coach. He gave the rest to the players to win it, and they didn't at every chance.
The game changer was the stupid penalty at he half
They were at midfield with one minute to play in the game with three timeouts... just a plain head scratcher

Let's see how the other first time head coaches are doing this year:
Billy Napier, Louisiana 4–4 Wins over Grambling, Texas St, New Mexicao St, Arkansas St
Jonathan Smith, Oregon State 2-6 Wins over Southern Utah and Colorado
Josh Heupel, UCF 7–0 Took over for Scott Frost, inherited an undefeated team.
Mike Bloomgren, Rice 1–8 They beat Prarie View A&M
Sean Lewis, Kent State 1–7 They beat Howard

I left out Matt Luke, Ole Miss and Chad Lunsford, Georgia Southern because they were interim HC last year at their respective schools. Luke is 5-3 this year, beating teams he should beat and losing to teams he was expected to lose to. Lunsford is 7–1 losing to Clemson 38-7.

Cut the guy some slack. Depleted roster, defeated attitude, overwhelmingly inept administration.

First you have to recruit the players, then you *GASP* have to develop them. This part is where the previous 3 coaches have failed. Albeit Lane wasn't here long enough to develop anything.

I have been critical but fair of CJP. I saw things early on which were very concerning. With that said, i have also seen improvement this season up until USCe. CJP laid an egg that game. Sucks...but it happens even to the best coaches.

Until Saban retires it doesnt really matter who coaches the Vols as long as they are a good recruiter.

For the 'I Heart Corch' crowd: Did we hire a gridiron savant who has more football knowledge than anyone else we could've hired OR did we hire a guy who needs latitude to learn on the job? The two would seem to be mutually exclusive and it might help y'all to sell the narrative if you apply cohesive arguments.

or it's 8 games in to year 1 and we just aren't very good.

or i'm just gonna come on here to stir ish and throw it against the wall and see what sticks.
(that last one could apply to a lot of folks the past few days, nothing personal)
