Remember JP is a rookie hc

I believe its just the safe opinion to have, nothing to lose. If they are right, they think they're smarter than everyone else and crow louder with the next hire, because you know there is gonna be a next one, just like this one....unless we luck out. Won't be because our AD spent time and money looking for a GOOD one. And it starts all over. Hell, they've been "right" 3 times now. Betting on our AD is as close to a sure thing as any.

And if they're wrong? Who gives a chit, it means we're kicking ass.

That's my story and I'm stickin to it.
either way. i'm just astouneded how sure some folks are, that their expert eye can make the absolute statements they make 2 months in to a guys 1st season where he's played the 2nd toughest schedule in america with the 80th(not sure about the exact # here, i may be embelishing for effect) best roster.

Should know better than to be wringing your hands and being so upset. Chill Martha.

Lulz, I love my moms meatloaf.
we're having meatloaf tonight....good stuff. wife makes this glaze that you put on 10 minutes before it's done cooking....much better than the traditional ketch up/tomato based meat loaf i grew up with.

ok, now i'm hungry. can't wait til dinner.

Its entertaining.

I bet we go bowling. I'm not saying "I have a feeling" or anything, I just believe he will figure out a way to win 6.

If not, I was wrong.

I think a lot of the hand wringing is because we've been down this road ... how many times now 4? Everyone knows you can't fully judge a coach on year one but you can get a glimpse of what may come. It is this glimpse that has some concerned and the question isn't can Pruitt turn the program around but rather is Pruitt a head coach. This is his first head coaching gig and some of us are not sure why we didn't get a head coach with some experience since our program was/is in such bad shape.

We didn't get a proven head coach with experience precisely because our program was in such bad shape. We could have easily hired a coach "with experience" like Dooley or Jones, but, wisely, nobody wanted to go there again. Top shelf coaches had little interest in UT except to leverage pay increases at other schools. Dan Mullen was the only "one who got away" that I cared about and he made the easy decision to choose Florida over the Vols because of familiarity, ease of recruiting, athletic department stability and, maybe, money. The Gruden garbage was NEVER going to happen---thank goodness! He used and abused this fan base for years and he is now proving his ability (err, inability) right now ruining the Raiders. Pruitt deserves the support of this fan base. He wanted to be put into this dysfunctional mess and he and his very good staff are doing a good job so far.

and i get that, and understand it.

but at the end of the day, what has Pruitt done?

won 1 game he wasn't supposed to

almost won another game he wasn't suppposed to.

lost to everyone else he was suppposed to

beat everyone else that he was supposed to.

if you're THAT upset about saturday night, you either just have a bias agianst pruitt or don't like him or you're just wired to bi***h and moan and can't wait to do it. losing sucks...duh. we should have won, didn't. 4 more left.

If Pruitt is the head coach you believe him to be then I doubt my question about whether we should have picked a rookie coach will bother him.

When the fans can no longer complain about a coach or a player is the day that a 4 win 8 loss program becomes the norm.

What about Leach?

not sure what you're getting at.

i don't know what he is yet. we're only 8 games in to year 1.

and i don't care who you complain about. fans do what fans do. still doesn't change the fact that with as many folks the past few days that have been talking about what we should have done or should do about the coach---at this point in time---is just dumb.

I’ve been one of those people who has been ready to run coaches off but this has gotten ridiculous. Damn they get better every week. Still aren’t good by any stretch but I don’t see how anyone can say they haven’t improved.

What about Leach?

I didn't like Hal Mumme and, while his disciple Leach is entertaining and reasonably successful in a no-defense conference, I don't think he would have survived a single season in the SEC. The SEC is for the big boys and proven, old school football, not gimmicks. Further, his personality and shtick would have gotten very old, very fast, in Knoxville. I just think Leach to Knoxville would have been a bad fit and, yes, I know he is talented and entertaining. I prefer to watch him somewhere else.

Leach has Wash St ranked #14 with a win over a top 10 Oregon team but VN said “Nah”
Mullen had UF ranked #9 before yesterday but once again VN said “Nah”

Would love to have either one of them

Mullen wasnt coming. Nobody here gets a vote. Maybe Currie should have went after Leach before that turd Schiano. Statements like this are pointless.. not changing anything

It may be dumb but if fans aren't allowed to express their opinions good or bad there won't be any fans cause that's what fans do.

I still maintain Leach wouldn't work in the SEC as a HC. He is a really good coach, don't get me wrong, but I don't think he would succeed in the SEC. I don't think we'll ever know for sure though.

Mullen yeah. Don't think UT really had a legit shot at him this time with the Florida job open, but he's a really good coach.

People here do this all the time. Just because jake isn't wringing his hands, bishing and moaning, you automatically think he thinks Pruitt is doing great and the answer to our prayers.

When it comes to UT coaches...

If you don't hate, you love.

If you don't love, you hate.

Irrelevant and kinda dumb fade, IMO. VN didn't make the decision, so what difference does it make. Neither one of them have done chit here and how long has Leach been at his current position? 7-8 years? Too lazy to look it up.

Smdh.

We are all aware that he is learning on the job. It is what we have become as a football program
such a lazy take. what exactly is he learning?

and i'm not really questioning that he is. but what exactly is it he's learning at this point?

has he been lying to us in these press conferences? what exactly has he said or done that leads you to belive he needs to learn something about football?

this "learn on the job" thing....i get why people say it. i don't get why people buy in to it. it implies that there are things he doesn't know, or that he doesn't know the potential consequences or outcomes based on a decision, or lack thereof, that he would make in the course of hte game.

and i haven't seen any evidence of that. he didn't try to go down the field at the end of the half. situatiaonally, you have the lead, and you get the ball at the half. he made the decision to go to the half having that knowledge.

he went for it on 4th down instead of punting. it's an aggressive call, with the intent of playing to win. that's a philosophy, not a learning curve.

He's not saying you can't express whatever opinion you have. He's just saying that one is silly. Similar to Pruitt and Woody holding the monopoly on sideline attempted and carried out violence.

Curry went after who Jimmy told him to go after.

Ironically enough he's coaching top 3 -5 talent that is getting run off the field lately.

CJP is getting 3 years and probably longer regardless of record if Fulmer has his way. They are joined at the hip and if one is fired the other should be out the door with them.
Probably so. He may get 5. But i think we as fans will know exactly what we have after 3.

We'll have a good idea what we have at the end of this season and know for sure after next. Year three will be confirmation of year 2.

Minus back to back losing seasons in years 3 and 4 he's getting 5 unless Fulmer moves on before.

People need to check their expectations here. Check up on the reality of UT football the last few years. Ask yourself if you were a top coach, would you go to UT given the shape we have been in? Take off your orange glasses before answering. Your answer is probably going to be no. Maybe the money wasn't right. Maybe you didn't like the idea pf playing bama uga and florida every year.

Yeah maybe there was enough money on the table, maybe you still step back and politely decline. You have to look big picture. If you are a top coach and you take the big money to come to Knoxville......what if you aren't successful? Then what? Your short term future is wrecked, possibly your long term too.

We just aren't a big deal right now. Take your meds and get over yourself. We have the opportunity to return to glory. Maybe with this coach, maybe not. We just don't know. We can be mad all we want, but other than an isolated riot, we don't control jack involving the athletic department.
