'25 Recruiting Forum: Official Tennessee versus Vanderbilt Pre-game/Game Thread

:( You worrying me. We played so well against Florida in Swamp, I don't think 8-4 is horrible considering Joey came in the spring and we lost our best defensive players. Maybe Heupel got his foot out the door because our fans act like LSU with no patience. Or they have forgotten what we went through for the last 20 years and how much good Heupel has done in the few years he's been here. (Number one in the country, top offense all the time, beating Florida in Swamp, Alabama twice, going to the pl,ayoffs, etc)
He's not been under all that much fan criticism yet. If he thinks he can escape that, he's wrong. Anywhere he goes he's going yo have to produce. Heck, the central Florida fans weren't upset that he left.

The reason I think something is up is his lack of emotion. He's never been a Shane Beamer but he's been into the games. It's almost like he's just going through the motions. Maybe it's infighting amongst the staff? I don't know but something feels off.

I appreciate Heup. I definitely don't want to see him go. That's why I've been so adamant that he needs to go get a good d coordinator. It needs to be his choice and not forced on him. If he stays with Banks I don't expect him to be here beyond next season. Maybe by his own choice.

You are omitting a HISTORICAL loss to VANDERBILT in Neyland and 0 for Georgia. Not to mention the Charmin soft team. Plenty of good coaches will come given the resources and admin commitment. Open lyour eyes not all is Orange

You can bet CG is gone

You know VQ is loving this loss

Gonna be getting a ton of traffic and AP will be giving 50/50 answers to all questions charging 9.95 lol

Quite a few of them are hoping Heupel takes another job. I think there are other good coaches we could get, but I also think that has the makings of a “be careful what you wish for” lesson learned the hard way.

I wonder if he (or his agent) was approached with one or multiple job opening and DW did not want to renegotiate his extension. Agree with you that something has definitely been off since GA game.

All good. We just got whipped tonight. Good teams overcome calls that go against you. Honestly if they called more penalties on them, with our defense they would have still picked up the first down. Our defense has more holes than Swiss cheese. This was an embarrassing game by Heupel and the team. I just hate it because this place is going to be unbearable and in all honesty there is really no good excuse for what we put on the field today. I still really like Heupel but he's going to have to do something different or it's going to start going in the wrong direction. He just seems different this year. On to basketball and then to baseball.

BS. Everyone on here knows how CF works.
You defend him every time someone questions his greatness.
Maybe you don’t understand how winning CF works?
I’ll tell you, soft as charmin doesn’t work in the SEC.
I defend the issues with the roster because I understand all of the NCAA sanctions and how they affect recruiting. Do you?
(You don't)

I defended the signing of Joey Aguilar (A LOT of you bitched about it all offseason) because I understood the difference in quality talent in the winter transfer portal and the spring transfer portal, do you?

I defended the mental errors on offense because I understand that we replaced NINE starters on offense and what that level of turnover can do to the play on the field, do you?

I defend the defensive struggles because I understand that having a young defense means it's very likely that inexperienced guys will play out of position, do you ?

I defended coach Elarbee and coach Pope when you guys were screaming at the top of your lungs to get rid of them because I understood they were having to work with a hodgepodge of different players over the last 4 years while balancing roster building with putting experienced players on the field, do you?

I defended the rotating in and out of OL, DL, CB, and Safeties in games that we were winning because I understand that getting kids who have only played high school ball more reps is more important that running up the score, do you?

What I didn't do is say that Heupel doesn't have any faults or is free from criticism. Ever. You guys just complain about everything this man does, so I'm going to call you out on it when you guys try to place blame on him for every little thing. Which you do.
He goes for it on 4th down? "HEYPEL SHOULD HAVE KICKED IT" Heupel kicks a field goal? "HE PLAYS WITH A LOSER MENTALITY", Heupel needs to shave, Heupel needs to be more personable in press conferences, Heupel better bring Boo Carter back, Heupel should have never brought Boo back, Heupel should run the ball more, Heupel should pass the ball more, Heupel needs to run a quicker offense, Heupel needs to slow the offense down. IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT THIS MAN DOES, YOU GUYS HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT. So yeah, I'm going to defend him when guys who think that coaching college football is as easy as playing Madden say some dumb ass **** to tarnish the reputation of a guy who has given us some of the best sports moments of our lives. The guy works 100 hours a week to try to make you happy and I think he deserves a little bit of a break after this horrible offseason.

Here's a reminder of what he's done for you:

-Only Tennessee coach to beat Nick Saban
-first time in school history we had the #1 offense in the country.
-first time we beat bama 2/3 times since 2006
-won 3 out of the last 4 games against Florida. First time since 2004
-Winningest three year stretch (30 wins) since 1998-2000
-29-7 record at home
-Beat the gators in the Swamp. One of only 3 coaches to do it since like the 50s.

I don't think Heupel is perfect. But if you want to place blame on him for every tiny thing, even stuff completely out of his control... yeah I'm going to call you out on it. I don't blindly defend him. You guys just blindly accuse him.

I mean, even the Bob Shoop years had some one off examples of good players who one could argue developed some under him. JRM, Cam Sutton, Barnett, Corey Vereen, Gaulden, Moseley, etc. They were the exception to the rule, though, and the stats showed it.

Tim Banks has had us inside the top 25 defensively once in five years if I’m not mistaken. That’s not good enough. Being this bad in year five is an indictment on player development, roster management, and scheming. He’s gotta go along with a position coach or two if we’re going to maximize the abilities of guys like Perlote, Ross, and Redmond.
I never once argued that Tim Banks is the answer. Just the idea that our coaches don't develop players. Which they do.
