France has some of the strictest gun control laws in the world. Did it stop the terrorist from bringing their own guns across the boarders?

There are so many guns out there now you could never sell another gun in the US and terrorist could still get them on the black market in a matter of hours. If they couldn't buy them on the black market they would have them smuggled across the border.

All stricter gun laws will do now is keep good people from getting guns in a timely matter. Criminals will just buy them on the street right away.

All tighter laws would do is make it slightly more difficult to acquire guns. Now, will that turn off some terrorists and shooters by making it too much trouble? Probably but not by a lot and it will affect legal gun owners overall a lot more.

There is no good middle ground because a lot of gun owners see any sort of measure as a slippery slope. There is smart gun regulation that would probably work and help both sides if people would quit getting worked up into a frenzy about "the gubment gonna take ma gunz" every time it is suggested.

I agree. It's a massive problem and has been one for decades. Sadly, there's not a light at the end of the tunnel for this situation that's going to last a very long time.

The sensitivity to guns is funny to me. Nobody is coming to your house to take away your guns. You have them be responsible. But that's not going to stop terrorism.

How funny would you feel in the middle of a crisis attack and 2,3,5 or even just one gun totin right wing republican saved your ass from getting shot bc they exercise their 2nd Ammendment right that you scoff at it?

It's obvious where you stand. You need to step up and own it. Nobody else here is trying to disguise there position.

Haha. What, I have stick a flag in the ground and state my claim to discuss with a bunch of strangers on a topic? Ridiculous. Whatever. I just want to discuss this matter. Could care less about Republican or Democratic parties. What's going on in this country affects everyone. It's not a right wing left wing thing.

You don't want to discuss anything. Making claims that a majority of gun owners are irresponsible is ludicrous and quite frankly comical and discounts your credibility in such a way that it not only insults the vast majority of gun owners it also makes it difficult to take any of your post seriously.

Hilarious. I asked for examples when that's actually happened and got nothing. Maybe it has, but it's never talked about. Seriously doubt that'll ever happen. I don't think about being in those situations cause I'm not going to live in fear.

If you want to discuss it, what would you like to know? Seems to me that there are quite a few responsible gun owners in this thread willing to discuss it with you. Just make sure you don't look down on us because we disagree with you on an issue that is important to us.

There are plenty of times when it has happend. You can Google it yourself if you don't believe me. It doesn't happen often...but I carry because I don't want to be unprepared to defend my wife and myself if it were to ever happen. Being prepared is not the same as living in fear.

And reporting it would not fit the media narrative.

Probavly worded that wrong and it obviously upset you and that old lady. So try it this way. I was thinking gang members, drug dealers and murder in major cities across the country due to gun violence. Everyday is a report of people being shot and murdered due to guns. That's the irresponsible craziness that's been going on in this country forever. I don't care about hunters or gun owners that are not actively going out to cause a threat. That's not the problem. The other is, along with the horrible background checking that's been going on since 2005. And now all this terrorist crap. It's a horrible situation that doesn't really have an answer.

Most of those types do not obey the laws currently on the books so they won't obey new ones either. They do not buy their guns through legal channels where any sort of background checks would occur. Increasing background checks, passing new gun control laws only effect the gun owners you claim to not have an interest in. If you want to stop the gun violence you speak of, get rid of the liberal judges that keep releasing these animals back on the street. Execute the evil psychopaths sitting on death row, and imprison these people after they've shown no propensity to reform. Most of these people you speak of have criminal records several pages long.

Also, make prison something that these a holes truly hate. Take away their cable TV, and work out facilities. Make them work for everything they get in prison. If they don't behave or work, they get the minimum to sustain life.

Except that does nothing to reduce crime and reincarceration rates. America leads the world in reincarceration rates and that probably has something to do with the lack of trying to actually rehabilitate people and the for-profit prison industry which lobby's to continue all the archaic drug laws that we have

The reason we lead the reincarceration rates is because prison is not uncomfortable and because we release them so quickly. Most know they'll serve only 25% of their sentence. Many will never rehabilitate and should be incarcerated for life.

can't rehabilitate unless they want to quit i know from expertise worked in that

Thanks for the info. It's rare to hear those stories. Even though it's from a very conservative website, I guess it's legit. If so, good for those people. But it's still a very very rare occurrence.

You do realize liberal publications are not going to print scenarios that you're looking for?

The prisons being not being uncomfortable, I think has very little to do with it TBH. Prisons in places like Sweden and Norway are like hotels but their system is more focused on rehabilitation than incarceration. Here, we will put you away for small things and that makes the incarceration rate extremely high and those people that went in for small things turn into real criminals and commit more crimes. It is a vicious cycle with no real options to fix it at this point.

Also, every month the NRA magazine has excerpts from news outlets from around the country where people protected themselves with firearms. These are not editorials, simply cited stories from newspapers around the country.

Just curious, have you ever been the victim of a crime?

Are you deliberately ignoring my posts? It doesn't matter if its rare. If you have the means to defend you and yours, I believe that you are obligated to do that. I don't live in fear, I am prepared to do what I have to do. I pray every day that that situation never arises but if it does, I feel like I am prepared. If carrying a gun makes you uncomfortable, that's fine...I am extremely comfortable with one and so is my wife.

Well I never see those stories on any website anywhere. Yahoo, abc, nbc, New York Times, Washington post, etc. I guess they're all liberal publications.

But if those things happened. Great. It's just never ever talked about on any news outlet. Which is strange.
