It won't happen anyway. They have the same strengths we had (and it seems we're getting back based on the hiring we've been doing this week). Additionally, the cards have been great at player development. They get a terrific defensive catcher, they develop him into a hitter with no defensive comparison. We get bethancourt. He's an ok hitter and a better than average though not great defender. We need to get better at development, especially hitting and base running in the minors. We propel young talent up, they can't hit. Freeman's a decent hitter, but he could be great, heyward, Simmons, all could add .2o-.30 to their BA and would be great all around players. That's what the cards have that we don't. Teaching their players to bat: See pitches, go deeper into counts, strike out less, make more contact. We need to be doing a better job of that from low-a all the way up.

Development and mindset has always been our problem...is Wainwright the hoss he is if we had kept him?

On behalf of all Dodgers fans everywhere, I hate the Cardinals. My boss is a huge Cardinals fan and my first words to him this morning were, "go to hell" (granted, he knew I was just being funny).

I think he is. When he went to the cards he was 2 years from his debut, and we have great pitching development. Look how many guys we've brought up through the years. We got Tehran about the same time in his career as wainwright and he's becoming a top of the rotation starter already.

I think we have, in many ways, a lot of the great things going for our organization as do the cards. I think we have defensive development (I'm including pitching and fielding) that is probably better than the cards have. But our offensive development is woefully lacking, and that shows in every prospect we've brought up. Haha, Even Gregor Blanco is slumping in the playoffs for the giants.

Wainwright pitched that last month with tendinitis...and a 1.36 ERA...our pitchers get tendinitis?...Tommy John time...in fact I think they're going to rename it Beachy Time!

That's true, but some pitchers are just tough. Smoltz pitched a half a season with a shoulder so jacked up he could barely lift it. He changed his delivery to almost sidearm because his shoulder was messed up. I hate hearing wainwright's name though. He's definitely a trade that we got the short end of. Same is true of that texiera trade a few years back. I see Andrus kicking ass and think how great it'd be to have him playing 2b or 3b for us.

That trade made Jon Daniels down here...the only lasting damage was Andrus...depending on whether Feliz eventually works out. We got a throwaway half year from Texiera...and a reliever? Schuerholz was going for broke in his swan song as GM...he ended up making a baseball equivalent of the Herschel Walker trade.

I will say this, at least it was that year we had with Tex. The Yankees got him the next year and he ain't been healthy since. Feliz has worked out. Even if he comes back sucking he's been great value in that trade. He was #3 in that one. Salty and Andrus were #'s 1&2 at the time because they were both mlb ready. Salty didn't work out, but he's been a good-great backup catcher everywhere else he's been. Matt Harrison's been solid too. I do wish we could have had that one back.

I'm just glad the Cubs got Theo from the Red Sox. It's amazing to see what a good farm system looks like. I have enjoyed going to the Smokies games and seeing the future cubbies. Addison Russell is a player. If you get a chance to go see him next year, go. He's fun to watch.

I couldn't agree more. The Smokies are fun to watch. Gives a little hope to us Cubs fans...

Between the cubs and the vols, I am certain I have lost years off my life to stressful seasons. ha

Ouch. My great aunt is pushing 90. Been a cubs fan since her first game taken in at wrigley at 18 years old. 72 years she's been a diehard. Drinks one beer and watches the game every single night in her little rose garden gazebo (which she had wired for tv and mini fridge). Never seen 'em win a championship. I'd sacrifice my braves winning one for two more decades if I could get her one for her cubbies before she goes. I pray for theo Epstein every night. She went with me and my parents to my very first ball game. 5 years old at wrigley.

Oh man I know, every time I think about how annoying it is the vols aren't winning championships, I remember all the Cubs fans I know that never got to see a championship.

I agree, but I get even more frustrated when I think, how bad has my team been and for how long that I'm comparing them to the damned cubs!

Excellent baseball playoffs this season. Very good, but flawed teams. NL has the experience in big game situations edge. AL has the momentum edge. All four teams have good managers/staffs. If superstitious, even numbered year indicates Giants and they are on a roll. If destiny is your thing, KC is your team. If hanging tough against good competition is your decider, the O's will win it all. If high level consistency and staying level headed makes the difference, then you go with the Cards.

My prediction - which doesn't mean squat and is probably the kiss of death: Giants win because they have the best manager in baseball, Bruce Bochy.

I like bochy, but best in baseball? I guess destiny is my thing. I see KC taking it. Speed kills.

I don't like either team from the NL, so I'm hoping the Royals or Orioles win it. I think a royals cards World Series would be fun geographically.

Royals-Cards would also be awesome as an epic rematch of the last time the Royals were participants in the postseason...1985

Yeah that was a little before my time, but I have seen the pictures and stuff and read about it. I'd like to see it.

Amazing World Series but it shouldn't have been...bad call at first base. Wish 30 For 30 would do something on it.
