Looks like I found the right spot to discuss this. I watched my first soccer game since the 2012 Olympics because soccer isn't really my sport. Was at Twin Peaks this evening for dinner and couldn't understand why it was so crowded. Soccer mania was strong, it was awesome! When the US scored that first goal, I couldn't hear myself think. Anyway, finished watching it at home. Go USA! Woohoo! Watching more is in my future. Yeah cool story right.. Anyway, will one of you fine gentleman soccer experts please explain to me why 5 minutes was added after the 2nd half? Soccer dummy here.

They add time at the end, they call it stoppage time, it's to kind of make up for all the wasted time during a half for balls going way out of bounds, injuries mostly, time wasting like the flopping and things like that.

It's up to the referee to decide how much time is added depending on how much they decide was wasted during the half,

Time is added at the end of the first half and at the end of the game to account for some of the downtime during the half. How much time added is at the referees discretion. I deff believe 5 minutes was excessive and 3 minutes probably should have been given.

Edit:Bruce Wayne'd (kinda sounds cooler than Swanson'd IMO)

What a great day of soccer for the USA. I literally ran outside with an American flag after the second goal. Tremendous. Only downfall is Altidore and dempseys broken nose. But it American as hell. Outstanding day.

Anyone know the general timeline on a hamstring strain? I guess Jozy is getting a scan tomorrow so it could still be a tear, but they are calling it a strain right now.

Could be ready for Germany with proper hydration and stretching or could be done for all the World Cup. Depends on severity. I've had both levels of a strain. It's going to bruise and throb but stretching is key. Can't let it knot.

(Injuries in soccer)

Are the two players that sustained injuries our best players? Man, both injuries looked painful especially Dempsey's broken nose.

You could argue Altidore had the potential to be a top 2 player for the US. Bradley looked really slow and some would argue he had a say in a top 2 of the field players. Dempsey will be fine. Just uncomfortable. I'd imagine that he will be very cautious.

So most likely Altidore will not play the next game and Dempsey will? I'm concerned that he will get kicked in the nose or something else freakish.

That's correct. Getting kicked in a broken nose might hurt like hell. I think there should have been a free kick but woe is me.

I was pretty shocked how bad Bradley was. Worst game I've ever seen him play. However, the fact that we can win with the game Bradley had is a huge testament to US soccer.

He was awful. I was raggin on him all game. Beasley was nervous IMO. But Bradley looked like he soaked the bottom of his cleat in old molasses.

Yeah, I remember the announcers saying the same thing. Heck, I don't know crap about soccer..Was kinda learning as I go.

I had a disadvantage. I couldn't listen to Sir Ian Darke. It was too loud in my house. We had a viewing shindig. Lucky you though. Ian Darke is one if the best.

Yeah he does a great job of explaining things for people like me except for the 5 min. thing I mentioned earlier.. :)

Is it possible to hate both the Olympics and soccer, without being a terrorist or communist?

Because I can't stand either.

Just curious as to why you hate the Olympics? Can't really say anything about soccer because I think I'm hooked now. That being said, I hated soccer at one time.

Well, since we have had an interesting night in losing Dews and winning soccer; I present you an equally interesting video. (Disclaimer: Don't blare this video in most any types of company)

I really dont hate either....but I'd rate em both below baseball.
