If we could just have you post in that forum more, that'd be more than great. What I have noticed that kids in the top 150 will generate the high draft picks and such. Those are the only kids I would worry about. The only two kid that signed to the MLB from our 2014 class were Lane Thomas because of Money, and Steen because his grades were low.

Baseball is a crazy great game. You always see the strangest stuff in baseball. I think I can learn a lot from you, so come by and say hi.

:good!:

Done. I am going to try to do some more research on the college game and draft this winter. Since I've retired I have more time.

Many sports fans like action more than strategy, so baseball is too slow for them. They remember being little leaguers and dropping out. Baseball is like other sports that require great hand/eye coordination and reflexes. Different type of strength development. The big, fat guys are going the way of the gooney bird. Nutrition and S&C are so important today. Getting serious way too young today. These kids are hurting their bodies and losing the love for the game as a result. Pitching is so much better, but more elbows, forearms, etc. going out from the strain.

Let's get behind Serano and the diamond Vols. Good stuff coming.

Agreed. The game has changed a lot and is much more competitive even since the late 90s and my days playing at UT. As much as I love football, baseball will always have a big chunk of my heart. I love CDS and can't wait to see how far he takes our program. GBO

Great to know that we share it. :) Spring training brings me out of hibernation.

Short story for you and Burger. My mother passed away recently. Went back to the house to get remembrances. There was the letter from my college coach stating his expectations for me as an incoming freshman. There was the cracked bat I used as a kid on local fields in Little League. Several things she had kept. I admit it brought a tear to my eye. Good memories. The sights, the smells, the sounds - all of it I love to this day. It doesn't go away, you just cherish it more.

And I love football as well. I was actually better at it than baseball, but when the time came I went with what I wanted to play.

Awesome story...my grandmother had kept newspaper clippings, old gloves, uniforms, and all kinds of stuff from my little league days until my baseball career ended. I never had any idea until she died and we found all that stuff in her house. That kind of stuff definitely gets the water flowing.

I was the same with football...I was probably better at football as well, but baseball had always been my first true love so that's what I chose to play after high school.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing it. That's a lesson for us to do the same thing for our kids and grandkids.

I still have my 11 year old glove on me to this day. I feel your story. I should still keep playing as I am only 23.

I believe you posted in my early diamond vol analysis thread already.

My cousin played at UT in the early 90s. Was on the 94 team. I remember being amazed by his conference championship ring.
I think he's on that UT list of all-time numbers somewhere on the website.

I came in a few years after that...never got the chance to get a ring. Would have definitely been nice though :)

You really should get on an amateur team at that age. But if not, what you are doing in the forum is great for the game and all of us UT fans. Again - thanks for doing it.

I need some help from my vol brethren, anyone have any traffic advice to avoid rush hour interstate traffic in Knoxville. I've gotta get from james white parkway to the turkey creek area... Any detours and side routes I should try?

I moved out of west Knox to get out of that bullsh1t every day. When I did live there, I'd take the freeway to the Alcoa exit and hop on middlebrook (it was usually backed up past 640 in the WB I-40, if it wasn't backed up to far past the 640 exit, I'd hop off there and take western to ball camp to middlebrook).

It still takes forever, but at least you make progress. Another way is northshore. Its a little out of the way, but it usually moves pretty well (especially once you get past morrell).

Good luck.

Thank you! I tried middlebrook thursday. It felt like forever but Id take making slow progress over sitting still on the interstate.

No problem! When I first moved out west, I would just work till 6-6:30 every night to avoid it. Then I couldn't do that for a while. I fought that mess for years, and finally got sick of it. I live in fountain city now, and love every bit of it. My commute is shorter in distance, and I have never once, in almost four years, had traffic slow me down.
