If you got any extra positive vibes just laying around, please send them my way. Petitioned the court for an emergency hearing last week for custody of my three kids. We go before the judge at 11am today.

Ex hasn’t had a job in 3-4 years, by choice. College educated and healthy. Used child support and money from her parents to pay bills. Severe alcoholic. Potentially bipolar. Sleeps all the time. Doesn’t even make the kids breakfast or dinner. No food in the house unless her parents stock her fridge, which they do for the kids. The house is a complete disaster as far as cleanliness. I live out of state and have been largely unaware how bad things have gotten. Some things came to a head last week where her parents finally told me and I immediately drove the 6 hours east to meet with a lawyer and go to the courthouse.

It is going to be ugly. But it needs to be done. I’ll do whatever it takes.

Prayers for a positive resolution for you and your kids. Glad to know men are willing to stand up and fight for their kids.

Faced a similar situation 20+ years ago. My ex was an alcoholic, hoarder, and very filthy living conditions. I picked him up for Thanksgiving weekend, and didn’t return him. When the divorce hearing occurred, she walked into the courtroom and saw it packed with teachers, preachers, and neighbors. She left and I was granted sole custody. It’s hard to treat someone with total contempt, but it was worth it. 14 years later, he was awarded with an appointment to the Naval Academy. Side note, he’s seen her twice in 20 years

My situation was similiar also...they actually had to bring her to the emergency custody hearing in shackles because she had been put in jail the week before. The judge was so disgusted he gave me full custody with no visitation rights.

On a good note she did finally turn her life around a few years later, and by the time she passed away she was a different person.

Sorry she’s gone, but glad to hear she changed her life

It was a really sad deal, but we had been working well together for a few years before she died. When she proved over time to have changed, I went and had the custody arrangement changed to reflect that. People can totally change if they want...She really did.

Quick update.... thanks for the well wishes.

granted sole custody temporarily. Return to court in August to (hopefully) make things permanent.

Main concern between now and then is showering these little boogars with love and giving them a great summer.

Driving back from Va to NC now.

Thanks to recent Likemongering, I’ve got my Like count up to 3,000. Or, what Swanson gets in a day, or what ATL Vol gets in a post. Mostly, I would like to praise my own hard work and dedication to getting me how awesome I am.
