Just curious, how many here who follow the Bible also follow it's teachings of what food is clean and unclean?

Because by the same logic that being homosexual is living a lifestyle of sin, eating these foods is living a lifestyle of sin.

Edit: See Leviticus 11 for the list.

Acts 11:

"I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision, something like a great sheet descending, being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to me. Looking at it closely, I observed animals and beasts of prey and reptiles and birds of the air. And I heard a voice saying to me, rise, Peter, kill and eat. But I said, by no means Lord; for nothing common or unclean has ever entered my mouth. But the voice answered a second time from heaven, what God has made clean, do not call common" Acts 11:5-9.

Here, we are taught that in the NT, ceremonial laws like dietary laws are done away with. For the most part, laws such as that had to do with Israel being a separate people from their neighbors. This is undone in the NT. Why? Because, as Acts 11 demonstrates with Peter going to preach to Cornelius, the New Covenant will not be made between God and Israel, but between God and all people. The Gentiles are grafted in. With that, those ceremonial laws are done away with. This is the teaching of the NT.

Homosexuality tho, along with other sins like idolatry for example, are not ceremonial laws, they are moral laws, and they are reaffirmed in the NT. These appeals to Leviticus, while they sound like powerful arguments, are understood easily when one studies and understands the New Covenant as taught in the New Testament.

See this question here by this fellow. On the surface it is a good question that deserves an answer for an honest person that just wants to know, but this is not an honest question imo..I can ascertain that from his at least rudimentary knowledge of that scripture. The guy already knows the answer we will give about Christ being the end of the Law, and just wants to argue.

This may be wise McGill, but I took the bait anyway. Perhaps I need to be more selective.

This a discussion board man seems like a good place for it.

Living a good life is a noble desire. But what about your sin? What will you do about that?

As I said in my statement that you quoted. The parts of parts of the Bible I have the hardest time believing are the prerequisites for heaven. I would put the idea of original sin in that category as it is used as a way to say if you don't accept that Jesus died for our sins then you can't get into heaven. I am definitely not without sin though.

So to answer yer question, I will try my best to make up for my sins by always trying to be a better person than I am now or was yesterday. I will make up for my sins by my actions and interactions in everyday life. By trying to make the lives of those around me better. Will I always succeed? Probably not. But hopefully I will leave a net positive effect on this world, and if that helps me in the next then great. If not, then I tried.

Jesus offers a much better way my friend. In fact, He says that it is impossible to make up for your sins. I get that you don't like that. But the gift of salvation is free. You can't work for it, you can't earn it, for He has already earned it. Faith in Him alone is all that is required for heaven. Why work your whole life hoping for the best when He says salvation is available to any who call on His name through faith?

That is exactly why I don't agree with that parts of it. I tell you I try every day through my actions to make this world a better place and improve the lives of those around me. Not because of fear of hell, but because I truly want to be a good person and have a positive affect this world. And you respond that all of that is useless and I'm going to hell anyway. If that is truly the case then I accept my consequences. It will not change how I live my life.

The OT laws and rules concerning food were established because Jesus had not yet come into the world. They were rules to help the Israelites live clean and wholesome lives. You had to follow the rules or offer the appropriate sacrifice to atone for your sin. In Mark 7, Jesus clearly states that what goes in our mouths does not defile us, rather it is what comes out of our mouths that defiles us. What comes out of our mouths comes from our heart and if our heart is unclean then so will our words be.

Jesus flipped the script on all of the OT rules. He lived a perfect life. He was a spotless lamb. He was the ultimate sacrifice to atone for every sin anyone has ever committed or will commit. I have sinned and most likely will sin again before I am gone. I know that I could never do enough to earn my way out of my sin. I am granted grace only through my faith that Jesus has paid my debt. Only through that acknowledgement can I be free.

Now if you don't believe in God then there is no worry for you. I see a universe so vast and complex that the idea that it doesn't have a creator and designer is laughable. The perfect balance of life. Male and Female. How two tiny little cells combine and then multiply to create a tiny person. If I didn't believe in God before I held my daughters, I had no choice after I did. For me, that was proof beyond all doubt that God exists and he loves us. He wants us to be with him for eternity and to do that I place my faith in Jesus and not a menu.

Speaking of this. Have you ever read the book by the guy living in NY, who decided to live strictly by the rules of the Bible for a year. Pretty interesting book. They made a sitcom about it that sucked. But the book was pretty good. It may rub some the wrong way because he was a non believer, but by the end he had a whole new respect for it.

My sins are not less grievous than someone committing a homosexual sin. But "lifestyle" of any sin carries more weight. If I lived a lifestyle of sin of any kind it would mean that I cannot be a Christian. Don't take my word for it, the Bible says this:

"Everyone who makes a practice of sin also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that He appeared in order to take away sins, and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him keeps on sinning; no one who kips on sinning has either seen Him or known Him" 1st John 3:4-6.

Everyone is a sinner, and nobody this side of heaven will ever completely stop sinning as John says in chapter 1 "If we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves." But, there is a clear statement here that the one who practices a lifestyle of sin does not know Christ.

Well Bassmaster even though I'm totally against you on the Lebron talk, I'm totally with you on this topic. I haven't read every one of your posts on this matter, but the ones I have read, I'm with you.

The real question is whether Bass is with you on your public restroom practices.

why does your displeasure matter? who are YOU to judge?

if they're already damned, God will take care of the displeasure part himself, doubtful he needs you screaming who knows what at them to boot.

Because I'm their father. If my kids are doing something against God's will, they'll hear about it from me. Idc if they're 8 years old or 40 years old. They don't have to listen to me once they get to a certain age, but that doesn't mean I'll turn a blind eye.

We aren't under Old Testament law. When Christ was crucified we went under new law, or the New Testament.

ok, i misread your post, i took it as you would 'express your displeasure' to gay people, in general.

Appreciate it. Just explaining my perspective. I feel like most religions are good and important in the world specifically for the morality they attempt to teach. My issue with any religion is when the morality lessons become less important than the prerequisites for heaven or whatever said religion believes for the afterlife. IMO the morality lessons should be the most important part because that is how you positively affect, or love, thy neighbor. I'm not trying to change yer mind or beliefs on this. Just hopefully giving you a better understanding of where I, and maybe some others here, are coming from. I don't think most on here are attacking you for yer beliefs, just giving their perspectives. And I definitely don't think you are the minority on this board. Just that you are doing a good job of stating yer points so probably most are just staying out of it and letting you do yer work.
