Lots of polarizing religious discussion in here. I don't want to dive into any one issue, but I do feel led to make the point clear that I profess Jesus is who he said he is: the son of the living God. The Bible and everything in it was inspired by him and is totally focused on him. There is one Holy word and one meaning, but many interpretations. Let the Bible interpret the Bible.

I know that putting Jesus in my place is the only way I can be justified before a holy God. All else is there in the Bible and the Holy Spirit living inside me to guide me. The more God is at work in me, the more clearly much of the scripture becomes and the more I die to my own selfish (and wrong) interpretations.

My fear in all this is that many on here see Christians in disagreement, which does nothing but drive others away instead of toward the gospel.

I love you too!

2 things:

1. If you want want to be nothing like Europe, you should probably get out of the country and head to Sauid Arabia. Our system of government isn't that different from England's really.

2. For a lot of socially liberal, fiscally conservative people Sanders is more appealing than Hillary because Hillary is actually a centrist, probably the most warhawkish of all the candidates, and has a well known track record of favoring only the political moves that serve to further her own career. Cruz is a turn off for a lot of that crowd also since he seems to care more about his religious beliefs and social conservatism than smaller government.

The view of Cruz as being a "Bible-thumping nutjob" has been pushed by the media.

What "damage" could he do as president with religious convictions? Other than maybe appointing pro-life justices.

He is a strict constitutionalist. He wants to go back to closer to what was intended by our founders, a system which helped make us the greatest and most powerful nation on earth.

He would cut government power. He would open up oil drilling to help make us energy independent. He would cut taxes and non-voter-appointed-agencies' regulations that cripple businesses. He would help usher in an economic environment that would create tons of jobs.

I don't get why he is so scary. I know his religious talk scares a lot of people because our society has placed such a stigma on being a true believer and conforming your life to your beliefs. But look at his actual proposed policies. Less government. More freedom.

I doubt Scandinavians feel oppressed but I see your point.

That may be true, as they may not know any different state of being.

Aren't they one of the countries over there that is in trouble because of their open borders with this recent Arab immigration crisis?

Boom

Enjoy it. Goes fast

I have two that have started sports. Two that are too young still. Already with two we are having scheduling conflicts, so that my wife and I can't both be at all of their practices/games. :(

Not sure what we'll do when all four are involved.

just a few more things point by point:

1. I never called him a nut job. Someone doesn't have to be a nutjob to be too religious to be an effective and impartial executive. No doubt that Cruz is an intelligent person, but so are Hillary and Sanders. None of them got where they are by being idiots.

2. Our last really religious president used religious convictions to waste millions of taxpayers dollars on abstinence only education programs that actually led to an increase in teen pregnancy and teenage STD rates. I don't want a president who will use his own religious convictions to guide social policy on things like sex and drugs that will continue to waste tax money.

3. The system our founders made didn't make us the greatest, most powerful country on earth. It led to the most devastating war in our country's history and nearly tore us in half because of short sightedness. I'll pass on the guy who thinks everything would be hunky dory if we could just go back to American Law circa 1825, thank you very much.

4. Every pro-(insert candidate here) person has a list of all the great things their guy "would" do that will make our country better. This list of things Cruz "would" do to make America better is just a rebranding of Obama's "change" campaign.

5. It's not about there being a stigma on religiousness. It's arguable that that's even a thing. The US is nearly 70% Christian. It would be impossible for an open non-believer to be elected president in the US today.

In any normal election, Cruz would be the wacky far right candidate who has little chance of winning the nomination since he's dedicated so much of his time in office to calling a sitting president guilty of treason. But since Trump has been around to out insult and the competition and be that guy, it's opened the door for Cruz. Trump is the only reason Cruz has a chance this year. The bar never would have been lowered enough for him to be a serious candidate if Trump weren't riding a wave of fed up republicans and making the rest of the party be open to anybody else with a heartbeat that can hold him off.

Once again, I think a lot of your views are being shaped by what the media and Cruz's opponents have been pushing because they're afraid of Cruz.

But after the religious discussion the last few days, I can't get caught up in another lengthy one. I have a ton going on in life right now and am super stressed. So I'll pass on the point by point back and forth.

I can tell you're one who thinks through and studies situations and such, which is what I wish every voter would do instead of blindly supporting a party. So thank you for being a thinker.

We'll agree to disagree on the founders/constitution. I believe they set up a system of freedom that creates an environment of potential success and greatness. Was/is it perfect? Nothing created by man is. But they thought of that and set up a system that could address the shortfalls.

Haha. I never said it was. I don't think I ever mentioned the name. I know it's not.

It's a general name for that region, right? Sweden, Norway

Hahaha my bad, I lost that thread of comments.

Scandinavia is the region that consists of what is today Sweden, Finland, and Norway.

I have some friends from Sweden and they seem to be pretty happy with their country's predicament. Their system works for them since they're a relatively small, highly urban concentrated, somewhat ethnically homogeneous country.

When you have a small population of people almost all belonging to the same demographic like 85% concentrated in urban areas, you're obviously going to have some different options than a country like the US when it comes to structuring your government.

None of my friends over there wouldn't consider themselves free by any means (in a lot of ways they'd consider themselves more free than Americans when it comes to personal social rights). When you have a system that creates a population that is 80% trilingual, things can't be going that badly.

My point here isn't to say that socialism is perfect or that it could work in the US. Just to say that it's not some evil boogeyman and there are circumstances where it can work for a population of people, given that the great majority of them are willing to buy in to begin with and they've got the right factors working in their favor.

Regardless (irregardless 😉) of how feel about Glenn Beck, this week he has been doing a serial on Milton Friedman and his teaching on the differences between capitalism/free markets vs collectivism (socialism/communism).

They're about 10-15 min each. It's worth a listen. Much/probably most of it is Friedman in his own words, and so not as much simply Beck commentary; so the anti-Beck crowd should be ok to still listen.

I will link the ones from Mon and Tues. I don't see the one from today up yet.

I did read an article the other day that mentioned that Tim Tebow was open to pursuing a career in politics someday.

Thoughts?

Was that a poke at me? :p

Wall Street already putting their money down on the devil they know - Hillary. The GOP is getting outflanked again. We all know the fix is in and also now know for sure the system is as corrupt as it gets.

Yep! The GOP elite would rather have a democrat puppet like Hillary win rather than Trump. This is the most crazy election season I've ever heard of in the USA. I think it will raise a lot of eyebrows and people will start to realize just how ridiculously corrupt these people are.

what scenario would be crazy and a sad commentary on how far our society has fallen and how badly dependent a large % of our population is on the government:

Hilary gets the nomination.
Hilary gets indicted.
Obama comes out and pardons Hilary.
Hilary still beats trump.

Or as it's probably going to really go, Donald fails the clinch the nomination, Ted Cruz wins on the second or third ballot and goes on to beat Hillary in the general election thus saving the free world.
