On the contrary. As I said, I believe we already discussed that, and already so many things keep getting repeated as it is. Or at the very least I know the acts 10 example was.

But as I said, I think all we need to step back. So please everyone lets move on.

If you read it exactly as it is then bible it seems pretty straight forward to me.

Haha. You're trying to lure me back in. But I won't bite. 😉 Other than to say just read the NT as a whole.

My man, involuntary, I think we're usually on the same
side of discussions, besides this one. I hope this doesn't affect our virtual friendship. It doesn't from my side. Take care man.

You understand my skepticism when this is one of the most common excuses I've heard when talking to someone with a different belief right?

"Don't judge me, you're not better than me, let me do what I want".

I think we both understand baptism, we just don't agree with the method. That's fine with me. There are far bigger issues, and to get so worked up over this issue really isn't needed. Just read the bible and just do, or continue to do, whatever is comfortable. Not a problem from me there.

It's ironic to hear you saying I should study more, when it seemed to me you enjoyed leaving the bible and posting articles. But I suppose that's just me being judgemental. I apologize.

I do my best to understand where someone is coming from. I think I understand why you feel the way you do. It's fine. Glad to talk with you, wish you the best.

I posted those things so you would know how it feels to have your faith challenged. I never once challenged your faith. I did post articles that quoted scripture, not because I couldn't but to illustrate how others have a wide variety of opinions backed up by scripture, that as I expected you would disagree with. You don't want to have a discussion, you want to try and "convert" me to your way of thinking. You don't want to have a discussion, you want to preach. You quote scripture that is basically how some baptisms were performed back in the day. You claim that it has to be done that way or it's not valid and to use OG's word "forbidden". Talking about a leap! Hey, all the baptisms

Any scripture that is contradictory to your way of thinking is "Taken out of context" i.e. the verses about taking up serpents.

Then you pull the ol' "hey, if your having doubts, don't blame me, blame God. He's the one that made up the rules". The same interpretations of the rules that I vehemently disagree with. Now how is that not condescending?

And no, I don't think we do view baptism in the same light. You are way too focused on the outside where I am focused on what happens on the inside.

And as to the "it was done this way in the bible so we must do it the same way now" argument, all the baptisms were performed in the holy lands. Does that mean we must travel to the middle east to be baptized?

It doesn't, I'm not trying to lure you in. You are one of my favorites and I still mean what I said earlier that you inspire me with your faith. You have been respectful and haven't preached at me. I hope that our disagreement on this matter doesn't make you think I am less of a Christian. I would just hope that you and others understand that just because others don't do things the same way doesn't make them wrong.

In an attempt to change the subject, Volnation was represented very well at the Masters practice rounds yesterday. Saw more Vol attire than any other school. Got and gave a lot of "Go Vols" yesterday.

Didn't want to post but uggggh, I really want to...

I posted those things so you would know how it feels to have your faith challenged. I never once challenged your faith.

And I wouldn't mind if you did challenge it. Like someone said earlier, taking a bigger view of things doesn't weaken, but strengthens. I have had faith challenged many times. Sometimes I had no answer, sometimes I do. I keep 1 Cor 10:13 on my mind.

I did post articles that quoted scripture, not because I couldn't but to illustrate how others have a wide variety of opinions backed up by scripture, that as I expected you would disagree with.

And I read them and answered. I could have been very much more detailed, as I'm sure you could have. We could debate this all day and get no where. I understood where you were coming from and gave you a simple answer. It wasn't the end of the world to me. I just would rather look at the bible first, and if we need articles, that's alright. But bible should be first imo.

You don't want to have a discussion, you want to try and "convert" me to your way of thinking. You don't want to have a discussion, you want to preach.

Iirc, I wasn't in the discussion at first. I saw something about baptism. I responded with my view. Then you responded with yours and it was off from there. I never intend to "speak down" at someone. If you felt that way, then it's in your own mind. I tried to just repeat what the bible said. If I was wrong, then I was wrong and I hope I change if that's so.

Then you pull the ol' "hey, if your having doubts, don't blame me, blame God. He's the one that made up the rules". The same interpretations of the rules that I vehemently disagree with. Now how is that not condescending?

Is He not the one that made the rules? What is wrong with trying to read the book where the rules are found? If you disagree, so be it. If it's condescending to try and tell someone to just read the bible and decide for yourself, then sorry.

And no, I don't think we do view baptism in the same light. You are way too focused on the outside where I am focused on what happens on the inside.

You criticize me of being condescending then you say something like this?

This wasn't directed at me, but don't misinterpret what I've said as "speaking down" at you. It's not intended to offend.

You seem like a genuinely good person with beliefs you are honest about. That's more than a lot can say. Sorry we can't see each others views on this. At least we can both agree that Bama sucks or something, right? Anyway, thanks again.

1)Believe in Jesus

2)Try to follow the 10 commandments

3)Repent when you inevitably slip up

4)???

5) Profit

Sooo can we move along now?

Guys...I started this by asking if someone was a Methodist because of their views on grace.

I'm sorry

The articles referenced scripture, you just dismissed it because you disagreed with the INTERPRETATION!

lol man, you are so full of yourself. Again, it's not God's rules, it's your interpretation of his rules. THAT"S WHERE WE DIFFER! You are not right because you interpret it that way. Sheesh!

The last part of my post was to give you a little of your own medicine.

Who said I meant that for you?

They referenced scripture and based off opinion. But imo (and I've said this over and over), I would rather go to the bible, read it, try to understand it, and then think of it what it means. I read what they said, and I disagree. Simple.

You dodged OG's questions, and some of mine as well. I read and considered your points. Just because I don't agree, answer, and then tell you that being honest and reading the bible...doesn't make me full of myself. If you are a christian, I would hope you understand that telling someone to read the bible isn't meant to offend. Or are you a christian who never says anything because you are scared to offend anyone who doesn't share the same view?

I guess I need to pray and not be so full of myself in telling someone that God makes the rules.

Great discussion here guys! A few more questions:

1. Can a woman be a preacher or head of a church? Can she lead a public prayer?

2. Do you believe in predestination? Why or why not?

3. Is smoking marijuana a sin?

No your inference is for me to read the bible and try to come to your conclusion. Yes you definitely need to pray for a better understanding of what the Word really means. Just because you have an opinion doesn't make it right. That's why I said you need to read the bible more.

Lol, I am the type Christian that doesn't condemn everyone to hell because they don't agree with me. And before you say you don't do that you do exactly that by saying that full immersion baptism is the only way to salvation. I find your position laughable, arrogant, and simplistic. You have tunnel vision and refuse to accept any view but your own. And before you say that's what I'm doing, I'm not the one condemning you to hell for not agreeing with me.

I'll pray for you to really see what Jesus' idea was. Whether it was strict adherence to an ancient ritual or the true meaning of washing one's soul. I never got an answer either, do we need to travel to the holy land for a true baptism? I mean that's where they occurred. Is a baptism in the holy land more authentic? When we meet our maker, do we get extra points for baptism in the holy land? I've seen people get baptized in cold water using wetsuits, since the whole body doesn't get wet is it less effective?

I think women can be great ministers and lead a church.

I do believe in a sort of predestination. I believe God has a plan for each of us. It is our responsibilityto follow that plan. I think for us to be successful in all phases of life, we need to follow that plan. I believe life can be hard at times and it can be difficult to see what God has in store for us.

I think MJ is no different than alcohol in that it is something people put into their bodies to achieve an altered state of mind. I think probably both are sinful because of the damage each does to our bodies. I think anything we willfully do that hurts our bodies is sinful. It's one of my sins as I overeat way too much.

InVOL - I've got this figured out so you will not have to book your tickets into ISIS territory. Since Jesus was baptized by John in the Jordan River and the water makes its way into the seas and oceans from there - just say the words and take a dive or have a family member dunk you under the waves the next time you are at the beach. Problem solved.

Come to think of it I may need to do mine again. Not sure if the baptismal pool at the church was filled with well water or from a river or lake. Since I am headed over to HHI later this spring I think I will take a dive.

Seriously though, I really enjoyed attending a church that had a baptism in the ocean one summer. Wonderful experience.

Lol, chlorine definitely degrades the baptism. Did you wear a white robe? That's what they did in biblical times. I think that would be a plus.

Wasn't this about immersion vs sprinkling at some point? Are you happy that you have completely derailed that discussion? Or was that your goal since you couldn't actually give an answer for it to OG?

I find it disappointing you would laugh at my position. I wouldn't laugh at the Buddhist for believing what they think. I wouldn't laugh at the Catholic, the Muslim, the Taoist, or anyone. I would listen, and try to understand. Show me the post, where I clearly condemned you to hell simply because I disagree.

I just find it ironic you point out over and over that I am full of myself, arrogant, laughable, simplistic, etc for believing in something and not budging, while you are doing the same thing?

OG has never answered my question. I said showme one instance in the Bible where baptism by sprinkling is , to use his word "forbidden". He can't because it's not there. Period. He comes back with examples of biblical baptisms and that's it. That proves nothing, zero, Nada.

And, I'm not laughing at your position, I'm laughing at your dismissal of other's opinions and attitude that "I take the Bible thus way so I'm 100% correct." You continue to tell me to read my bible because I need to study more to come to the same conclusion as you. That's self righteous if I've ever seen it.

Do you believe you have you have to be baptized to get to heaven?
