I hate to post this, tbh, but these ultra conservative defensive game plans have Butch's influence written all over them. I am not terribly displeased over yesterday's scheme, but like most everyone else, I do question the personnel decisions. The game plan against GT was really bad. It is the reluctance or inability to make changes that bothers me the most. We have to be more aggressive. We did get killed with explosive plays last year, so I am guessing that is part of the reason. If we sit back on our heels against anyone else other than UMass, then it will be a very long year, IMO.

Agreed. The point about Butch showing his influence is spot on. I highly doubt Shoop forgot how to coach, maybe Butch just won't let him fully grab the reigns of the D. Pure speculation, but it just doesn't seem to add up. I'm hoping to see a much better D against UF. If not then yeah, like you said, long year coming.

Surprise, surprise!

This team is playing like it's going to finish somewhere between 6-6 and 8-4. I bet this team will beat someone they are predicted to lose to and lose someone they are predicted to beat. Enjoy each football weekend. There are only so many each year.

Not acceptable at all but that's just what we have to deal with

I must have watched a different game from the booth then the rest of y'all watched. We didn't look great, but damn, it wasn't that bad for only a couple days after a super physical game.

Having watched every play of the game twice--both live and broadcast-- closely I can only say that you all have greatly exaggerated every negative aspect of the game and ignored most of the positives.

The FF is two doors down to the left.

I have thought the same thing, but I am not a fan of playing passive then asking players to suddenly dial it up. If this is the plan, then it is a poor plan.

I wouldn't have played it passive if I was Butch but the goal is to go 1-0 every game, he did that. Hope to see him dial it up against UF and here on out. we will see.

I posted this in a FF thread:

I have been patient with CBJ because of the hole he had to dig us out of. I did not expect last year"s team to be great and they did not disappoint. I was surprised by last years quick start, but we just lacked depth and injuries took there toll.

This year I expected more. But these first two games have proved to me that we lack the physical toughness to compete for the SEC East. Georgia, SC, and Vandy all look tougher in the trenches. The SEC is won at the line of scrimmage. Unless something changes this will be a long season.

I guess I'm different. I tend to wait till I see us actually play several SEC teams before concluding how we look relative to the SEC. I don't usually get triggered to go full negavol by 2-0 starts.

I miss Butch from the Georgia game 2014. Heartbreaking loss, but he coached the team with his hair on fire. Ballsy calls and the players responded in a big way. What the hell changed in him? Now he coaches so freaking scared of anyone making a mistake and the players seem to mirror that.

Don't let reason get into the way of a 2-0 start. People will find anything to nitpick

Agreed 100%. Yesterday was 2 plays away from being perfect given the circumstances (sack fumble and bad redzone int). The rest of the game went almost exactly to plan. It was really just what we needed - an easy win, plenty of playing time, and still some things to work on.

My man. We'll be 4-0 when UGA comes to town

I've stopped watching games like yesterday's live.

What happens is fans will predict scores like 42-7 the week beforehand and then be disappointed when they see it play out. 42-7 in our minds plays out perfectly. We expect every single play to be a 20 yard gain on offense and a 5 yard loss on defense.

We sit there disgruntled that every play isn't a long run or a TD pass. Easy to get frustrated when expectations are out of whack. It sums up this fanbase in a nutshell.

Think about this. We beat TN tech like 55-0 last year and booed the head coach at half time.

Preach my man. PREACH. Everyone is pulling every negative aspect from both the defense and Dormady. Yeah we struggle against the jet sweep but we held them to 0-11 on third down and the only points came off a very short field. Dormady had two bad turnovers but he also did a lot of good. Much more good than JG imo

As a Bears fan, that one hurt! So close! Might be a new star in the NFL in Tarik Cohen tho.

Another thing is people predict how we will play against the sec opponents based off of how we played Indiana State. The team had basically one day of practice, had just played a 2 OT physical game, and playing a not so exciting opponent. The team isn't going to look like they're playing for a national title under those circumstances. I'm sure the players and coaches both went into yesterday with the mindset of let's just get this one over with

We also lack emotion. In both games it seems we are just going through the motions. We lack FIRE.

I didn't get that feeling against GTech, and you can expect 18-22 year olds to do that against a vastly inferior opponent 4 days later. Not saying we have great leadership, but yesterday was a typical response after our first game. You knew it would happen when VQ reported that we had a light hour workout on Thursday while players were still recovering from almost 100 snaps.

There's not much distinction between the two forums right now.
