If we stay healthy sure. But I feel like we are 1 injury away at every position on defense except safety from being in trouble.

I am not as optimistic about safety as most. I think tkjr and Abernathy have proven they aren't good enough to be championship level safeties. Warrior is only one I like to be honest.

1st play from scrimmage against GT:

I-formation with Kelly at RB.
QB hands off to the FB who flys up the middle for a 75 yard TD.
Who's the FB? Evan Berry!
No One would predict or prepare for that play.

:)

Think back to 1998 Vols FB Shawn Bryson. Fastest FB in the NCAA

If we go 7-5.... He gon.

We have a lot of talent that will need to take the next step from a developmental standpoint (improve) for us to truly compete for the East. This season we will truly see if overall coaching and game management/adjustment has improved.

I think this year will tell all. If we go 7-5 with losses to Bama, UF, UGA, LSU and slip up against one of the lesser teams on the schedule I seriously doubt Jones will ever be more than a 8 or 9 win a year guy. The question will be then are we cool with an 8-4 program. I for one won't be.

Totally random/off topic but I'm excited and wanted to share. My mom gave me some of father's jewelry a few years ago. (I never knew my dad since he died when I was 3 mos old). Anyway, I looked at some of it today and pulled out an old bracelet I wrapped it around me on a lark and it fit! You can't imagine how happy this made me.

It may sound silly to y'all but I'm on cloud nine over this. To see in very real terms (as opposed to people just telling you stories) that you're like your father is freaking awesome!

My idea for first play:

Triple option with JG at qb, chop block the hell outta them give them a taste of their own medicine, JG pulls it back thriws 80 yd td to JJ.

If we can run my play for our 2nd offensive possession, then I will allow it.
Can we chop block them for my play too?

:hi:

Unfortunately we are talking UT here and we will run it up the middle on the first play.

Just can't escape Johnny Majors no matter who the coach is. That said, when it worked Lord have Mercy did it work. Those old lines destroyed DLs. I haven't seen OLs like that in a long damn time (that includes all sec teams qs well as the major ooc teams not just us) and would give anything to have a line like that.

We need LB recruits. What's the latest on Anderson, Peters, and Flint? Do we still have a chance with any of these kids, especially Anderson and Peters?

TBH, I'm starting to wonder whether or not we need to upgrade our LB coach. Thig did a wonderful job recruiting that first year but these days he doesn't recruit much and I feel like LBs are underpeforming. Then again, I look at Jumper and although he started out rough he made some incredible plays when it mattered despite not being as talented as others (that's good coaching and also pure heart and determination). With that in mind last season's poor play by backups could be an experience issue rather than a coaching issue.

But I agree with you... We've stacked the lines but need more LBs this class.

I was done with Thig when it became apparent that his group was not improving, nor back ups able to even contribute in times of desperate need.

I keep hearing/reading 6 in the NFL, which is true. But there was only valuable production from 4 of the 6 last season.

If the O-line is improved, the weakness of the inexperience at QB will be reduced. More time and less dependence on the QB running. TE is the same. RB has Kelly. With Hurd gone and Kamara dinged up, Kelly had to step up. They never really had full bore Hurd/Kamara much of the season. So all we are saying is we need production from the back-ups like Hurd/Kamara got last year from Kelly. There is nothing lost at WR, IMO. Quality talent ready to step in with a year in the system to go with JJ. That tells me the O points per game will be at worst in the 28-30 range after a 34 and a 36 the past two seasons.

Nothing but being better can happen on D. The only real loss, which is big, is DB. There was next to no production from JRM and Cam. Add in the loss of Kirkland, K-Mac, Shy, Phillips, and others at various times. Kelly was dinged up all season, Berry, McDowell, Sapp, etc. That's over half of the starters of a productive D of the previous season. Add in no Rock providing S&C, limited production from Kongbo, and no Wiggins at CB. So let's drop that back down to what they gave up in 2015 - 21 points per game.

Special teams are neutral to better. Thats up to Medley to improve. Quality returners will be ready and Trevor is Trevor.

That keeps them at a positive margin of 7-9 points per game for 2017. It was 7 points last season at 36/29 with two dumb losses. In 2015 it was 34/21 with a couple heartbreak losses. Both were 9 win seasons. So win one of those two dumb/heartbreakers each season and that's 10. That gives Butch one brain fade loss as a cushion.

Now leave out the positive effect of Scott, Canales, Beard, Wells, Hoke, Warren, and a full package from Shoop. It's all in your opinion of Debord and Z versus Scott and Beard. I'm saying neutral to better. There is nothing but upgrade in the others including Shoop and S&C. I will add one final point. If Shoop and staff are for real, they will accomplish what Muschamp has done at each stop. In his second year the D's he assembled improve big time. It's a natural progression of installing the full D, techniques taught, new players working in, and S&C changes.

10+ and SECCG. Maybe a NC. :number1:

I did say "maybe". :)

With all the staff changes their must be some reason he wasn't a part of the turnover. I'm hoping he will improve with Shoop and Hoke. The LB corps had a ton of injuries even to the backups but still he needs to show improvement this season and if not CBJ needs to start looking around,

The staff drama may have distracted him but there's no excuse not to be better than we showed last year.

He'll be a good player for them and we will regret not having Rico dowdle. Could have got him in the 2016 class

rico is a solid player but im not buying that williams talk at all. I know youre a gamecock fan but that kid couldnt even touch the field at UNC. big facts. And we'll be fine with Chandler and Kelly the next couple yrs along with all the others we have and will sign.
