It's appealing because Butch showed you can recruit easily here. Coaches think if he can do it I can too and I'd coach them up better.

If it had easy to recruit here, even Dooley would have been able to sign much better talent than he did. In addition all the negative publicity spewed by the sports media and the handful of trolls affects recruiting. Couple that with the anti-athletic Administration which was present over the last ten years, recruiting has not been easy.

Dooley was just trash man. Every other coach recruited well when they recruited like a coach at Tennessee is supposed to. If you slack at any school recruiting will be garbage.

Hmm. I don't think he's proven you can recruit easily. He's proven you can recruit at a high level if you work exceptionally hard and load your staff with people willing to work exceptionally hard. I think Dooley tried to recruit the easy way and that didn't work.

Ding ding ding.

I guess the better practice would be to compare year 5 of Butch to year 5 at Saban. Either at Bama or LSU.

No one thinks that Butch is even close to Saban. No one thinks anyone, except maybe Meyer, is even close to Saban. That is not to say that we should not aspire to the level of success that Saban has achieved everywhere except the NFL. Saban is the best coach in the history of college football, hands down, IMO. We should all hope that our coach begins to even remotely approach that level of success.

He brought it on himself.

He brought some of it on himself. What mostly brought it on are the imbecilic so called local "journalists" who continuously and unjustly continue to bring it up for no other reason than to feed into the negativity and get them a few more clicks.

I liked this quote from a story on Scout about this Jones and job security talk.

"It seems like in this day of instant information, media members and viewers alike flock to the loudest cry of negativity. Maybe media members just get that rush from writing stories that harp on the most negative side of life and the clicks that follow. Maybe people just want to see that foul ball hit the wind shield at a baseball game."

Just when I think Ole Miss story couldn't be more indicative of a dirty program.

That's correct.

I had half of Knoxville blocked before I finally threw in the towel.

there are plenty of positive Vols twitter handles mostly ones that follow recruiting. I don't see any of the negative Vols spews on twitter but I also don't go looking for it.

This. Media takes his coach speak out of context and blows up benign sound bites, but that's what happens when you make an enemy of the local media.

It's not hard in Knoxville. They mostly already hate to see anything good come out of UT athletics and they revel in stirring the pot. Butch just needs to learn how to handle them.

I hope you are kidding. Bear and Neyland would argue with you but I am aware you qualified your statement with IMO.:):):):)

Freeze was trying to buy 15 more minutes of playtime by framing Nutt behind the scenes until the NCAA brought the hammer.

Nutt's not 'bout dat life

Did you guys hear the interview with Barrett Sallee I think it was yesterday on Josh and will? It could've been someone different because I was catching the tail end of it, however, they said in talking about Florida that in there review this is the most talented team Florida has had in quite some time. I'm just wondering what I am missing. They lost eight starters on defense, quite a few who were drafted in the league, and this is supposed to be their most talented team. The interview was around 145 if they have a podcast up

Hugh Freeze is going to get absolutely drilled at his turn on the podium today. How do you answer questions knowing the whole sports world found out a day before that you tried to frame the previous coach in the NCAA investigation to save your own ass? Lol. I'll be tuning in for his presser today for sure.

Oh, and touché, Houston Nutt.

Wow, how easy is it to say that? Butch doesn't get credit for anything.

The work and energy he puts into recruiting isn't ingrained in every coach. Definitely not Chip Kelly. If the other facets of being a HC aren't there, then you can't keep him on that sole basis...but recruiting at Tennessee isn't a matter of going on auto-pilot. Foolish to suggest otherwise.

Being in Memphis, I have heard radio and tv interviews from Ole Miss fans, and they are just laughing it off. I read another article about it, and the lawsuit is very detailed. I think it is very interesting, and I would think that Freeze and Bjork may be in trouble.
