Ok I'm trying to be honest and give constructive feedback here. So please don't take this as an insult.

You thread feels a lot like many of the Japanese websites for companies I see. Their strategy of website construction is simply to put all of the imformation contained within the whole of all of their sites in one place instead of the more western idea of having a home page which (ideally) can easily and intuitively point you to another section of the website which has the information you're seeking. It takes a few more clicks to get there, but arguably less time because there is a clear path laid out.

The Japanese style, in theory, makes you do less work to find the information you're seeking. However, it's often so crowded that overflooded with information that it actually makes it less intuitive than the western model. It's like being dropped into the middle of a home depot or a lowes with no signs. You'll be able to find what you're looking for because it's all there, but walking in through an entrance with those huge signs marking out the different sections of the store would make things a lot easier.

This analogy doesn't work great though because VN itself is already the version of the home depot with the entrance and signs. Freak has done a great job giving the forums an intuitive and easy to use layout. Your thread is like a redundant, self contained, less intuitive version of an already easy to use system.

(Google says that says "Thank you" in Japanese.)

What my thread comes down to is me being an anal person about getting as much information out about a recruit as possible. Others may provide a thread about recruiting but leave the member(s) wondering what was missing from that thread or post.

That's just how I've always been. I'm not going to change because my recruiting thread is easy to follow & read anyhow. It doesn't take a genius to figure out how to use it for Pete's Sake. :p Thanks.

By the way the clicking of the recruit's name taking someone to that recruit's thread was Freaks idea & not mine. I wasn't doing that at first but I actually think it's a good idea now.

(Google says that says "Thank you" in Japanese.)

That would be "domo arigato" (Thank you very much) (or translated exactly - Much Thanks) or "arigatou gozaimasu" (Actually is just a more formal or polite way of saying Thank you)

4 years in Japan have finally paid off!!

OR you just list to the Styx album.

Was never a big styx fan. I didn't hate them. Just not my favorites.

and....Don't take away from my moment in the spotlight! Four years of my life I spent just to build up to this moment mister. You'll not ruin it for me!

I spent four years looking like an idiot trying to figure out what people were saying just for this moment. You don't get to come in here with a song with a catchy beat and steal my thunder!

Reported! :finger3:

3 years in Japan for me, and I learned to read hiragana.

Edit: Ironically, my polite Japanese gets censored because the letters could also spell a word that rhymes with "quit" and is vulgar in English.

Hey guys, I don't post often, but couldn't resist an FF thread called "Someone make me feel optimistic about Team 121". Not sure what the etiquette is on posting the same thing in multiple threads but wanted to get an RF perspective...

Reasons for Optimism about Team 121:

1) We return 4 of 5 starters on o-line from an offense that set a school record for points, and even more experienced, talented depth. The most likely newcomer to the rotation is the #1 high school football player in the country.

2) We return a running back who averaged 6.4 yards per carry (on a significant sample size of carries). His backup will be a 4-star sophomore from South Florida or the #5 high school running back in the country last year.

3) We will start either a highly touted 4-star who's spent 2 years in the program or the #1 rated dual threat quarterback in the country who's spent 1 year in the program. Both were offered by Bama, and both (unlike last year) will receive guidance from a quarterbacks coach.

4) We replaced the weakest link on the coaching staff with a highly respected DBs coach. We lose our best corner, but we only got 2 healthy games out of him last year anyway. We have serious talent there, especially if Byrd moves over to defense, and with a little coaching, this could be the greatest area of improvement on the team.

5) We will not have the cataclysm of injuries we had last year. Besides the sheer improbability of that happening two years in a row (or ever), we've replaced our S&C coach with a well respected NFL guy. Plus, the returning players will help our defense return to the form they showed early last year. We get KMac back, we get Tuttle back, we get Sapp back, Kirkland at full strength...

6) We have an excellent senior punter, a dependable senior kicker, and the best kickoff returner in the country (assuming he can bounce back from injury).

7) We have fewer distractions (Hurd) and lower expectations.

8) Georgia, who we beat last year, loses 3 senior starters off an offensive line that was one of the worst in the country (101st in Adjusted Line Yards) and replaces them with either backups who couldn't beat out those sub-mediocre departing seniors, or true freshmen.

9) Florida, who we beat last year, lose their best DT, their best LB, their 2nd best LB, their best corner, their 2nd best corner, and best safety. They do return 4 of 5 starters on the o-line, but that line finished 113th in rushing last year. And behind that line, they'll either start an untested redshirt freshmen or a tested, ineffective junior at quarterback.

10) Not for this year, but general reasons to feel optimistic... We are Tennessee. We're coming off 3 straight winning seasons and bowl wins. We have legit talent in the program again. We've made it back from the dead, and are gaining strength year by year. We survived a catastrophic spate of injuries last year. We upgraded the staff immensely this year. 2018 looks to be a huge recruiting year, especially in state.

There is seriously a ton to be excited about, and I will never understand the doom and gloom here these days... It's like too many years in the dark days of Dooley despair made half you guys shut your eyes for good, and now you're walking around in the sunlight complaining how dark it is.

Go Vols!!!

Amen, and I will add:

1. Upgrade at WR coach with Beard and the QC guy from the Jaguars could be huge for our WR position. Talent is there, just have to maximize it.

2. Kongbo has another year of coaching under his belt, really started to come on to end the year. Could be a breakout player this fall.

3. Hoke will maximize the talent at DL.

4. Bob Shoop has something to prove. With the upgraded coaching staff, this defense could be what we all hoped for in 2016, a top 25 or better defense with Shoop at the helm.

5. Butch does better with lower expectations.

6. Butch would have won 11 games with a healthy roster last year.

Talent is there. This team could go 11-1 this year, depending on QB play

I actually never learned to read Japanese...well I guess I did some. I enjoyed reading the signs, because they were in both English and Japanese. I learned to speak Japanese fairly well I suppose. My two older kids (younger ones are from current wife) both learned to speak Japanese. My wife learned to speak Japanese and read Hiragana. I was the least fluent of any of us though, because I was gone a lot. On the other hand, I got to learn to speak some Korean, Thai, and bits and pieces of other languages, depending on how long I was in a particular country.

I always tell people who visit Japan for vacation and the like just to stick to "Domo," It gets the point across and it's harder to butcher the pronunciation.

And Japanese people accept it from Americans. They'd rather us keep it simple rather than butcher it too.

I like the discussion of the prospects for the d-line, the status of Byrd with the new OC, who will be the second back and even the suggestions of the cost of conditioning for stamina rather than strength.

OK?

You're right. It has improved. Ziti (who I typically enjoy) and all of the back and forth involving him has clouded my perspective. I too am enjoying the DL talk and looking forward to what the new coaches do for the team.

You just asked a question and I gave honest feedback.

Thank you for the replies, that was perfect. I just wanted a dozen or so names to follow that we're definitely interested in, like Tee Higgins, Ty Chandler, and DeAngelo Gibbs last year. Mission accomplished.

One of the things I've liked about this forum for the past four or five years that is that it tends to distill the insane amount of information from the recruiting sites down to just what you need as a Tennessee fan.

4 years in Japan have finally paid off!!

Japanese sounds like a lot of grunting mumbling to me. It and Yiddish are the two ugliest languages on earth imo :) Yiddish sounds like someones trying to hack up a loogie..blech :)

We don't need to lose sight of that. We have a lot to be thankful about despite the shortcomings. Hopefully, Butch has addressed those and will take a step up as a HC this season. A 9-4 this season would be a strong accomplishment compared to the 9-4 of last season. Then pull in a top 10 recruiting class again and the program will be on its way to bigger and better.
