German's always sound like they are cursing to me.

My family is German, on my father's side, although we no longer speak German. I have been to Germany and there is no reason for them to be so upset. The country is beautiful, most of the women are gorgeous, the food is delicious, and the beer is amazing. Besides living next to France, life should be good for the Germans. :dunno:

Hey guys, I don't post often, but couldn't resist an FF thread called "Someone make me feel optimistic about Team 121". Not sure what the etiquette is on posting the same thing in multiple threads but wanted to get an RF perspective...

Reasons for Optimism about Team 121:

1) We return 4 of 5 starters on o-line from an offense that set a school record for points, and even more experienced, talented depth. The most likely newcomer to the rotation is the #1 high school football player in the country.

2) We return a running back who averaged 6.4 yards per carry (on a significant sample size of carries). His backup will be a 4-star sophomore from South Florida or the #5 high school running back in the country last year.

3) We will start either a highly touted 4-star who's spent 2 years in the program or the #1 rated dual threat quarterback in the country who's spent 1 year in the program. Both were offered by Bama, and both (unlike last year) will receive guidance from a quarterbacks coach.

4) We replaced the weakest link on the coaching staff with a highly respected DBs coach. We lose our best corner, but we only got 2 healthy games out of him last year anyway. We have serious talent there, especially if Byrd moves over to defense, and with a little coaching, this could be the greatest area of improvement on the team.

5) We will not have the cataclysm of injuries we had last year. Besides the sheer improbability of that happening two years in a row (or ever), we've replaced our S&C coach with a well respected NFL guy. Plus, the returning players will help our defense return to the form they showed early last year. We get KMac back, we get Tuttle back, we get Sapp back, Kirkland at full strength...

6) We have an excellent senior punter, a dependable senior kicker, and the best kickoff returner in the country (assuming he can bounce back from injury).

7) We have fewer distractions (Hurd) and lower expectations.

8) Georgia, who we beat last year, loses 3 senior starters off an offensive line that was one of the worst in the country (101st in Adjusted Line Yards) and replaces them with either backups who couldn't beat out those sub-mediocre departing seniors, or true freshmen.

9) Florida, who we beat last year, lose their best DT, their best LB, their 2nd best LB, their best corner, their 2nd best corner, and best safety. They do return 4 of 5 starters on the o-line, but that line finished 113th in rushing last year. And behind that line, they'll either start an untested redshirt freshmen or a tested, ineffective junior at quarterback.

10) Not for this year, but general reasons to feel optimistic... We are Tennessee. We're coming off 3 straight winning seasons and bowl wins. We have legit talent in the program again. We've made it back from the dead, and are gaining strength year by year. We survived a catastrophic spate of injuries last year. We upgraded the staff immensely this year. 2018 looks to be a huge recruiting year, especially in state.

There is seriously a ton to be excited about, and I will never understand the doom and gloom here these days... It's like too many years in the dark days of Dooley despair made half you guys shut your eyes for good, and now you're walking around in the sunlight complaining how dark it is.

Go Vols!!!

I've heard the women are gorgeous, but stinky.

I personally believe the world should revolve around German beer gardens.

Can somebody who doesn't have a processed meat in their username post a list of recruits' threads that I should be following for '18?

This is the time of year that I normally start following recruits for the next cycle. I don't have time or inclination to read every recruit's information on a website like, say, 24/7. This year, I've noticed that this site doesn't pair down the number of recruits very much from just reading straight from the recruiting websites.

Help a brother out.

Please don't take this the wrong way but I believe the word you are looking for is "pare" instead of pair in this reference. Probably should have let it go but for future reference some may find this useful..

Good stuff. I got a feeling this team ends up looking better than last year. Expectations lowered. Veteran Strength coach. Much improved coaching at OL, DB. Hoke is an upgrade over strip although strip was solid. This team is going to be tougher after hearing Wells talk and seeing some former players comments on Hoke. Wells wants his guys to be relentless. Hoke preaches toughness and to dominate the man in front of you then worry about the next move. Warren is going to instill a toughness in secondary. Rock in the whole team. He made some good hires that should fix the toughness issue we had last year in terms of beating the guy in front of you

As much as I dislike bringing it back up, I have to say that Ziti was pretty spot on with how the AD hiring proceeded. It's crazy how these things work, and I understand why it frustrates people. Turnkey may have done things here or there to find viable candidates, but their purpose was almost just for show. The hire came down to the someone with money and power and thus influence.

I know a lot of folks gave him flack on here, so I just wanted to give him props for expressing his opinion on the matter.

I respect his opinion maybe just not 100 times...

That would be "domo arigato" (Thank you very much) (or translated exactly - Much Thanks) or "arigatou gozaimasu" (Actually is just a more formal or polite way of saying Thank you)

4 years in Japan have finally paid off!!

99-02 @ Camp Zama and I'm limited to "Hai, domo" and "curry rice onigashimas" and "Choto Mate, kudasai"

Oh, and Asahi beru, kudasai...

Was never a big styx fan. I didn't hate them. Just not my favorites.

and....Don't take away from my moment in the spotlight! Four years of my life I spent just to build up to this moment mister. You'll not ruin it for me!

I spent four years looking like an idiot trying to figure out what people were saying just for this moment. You don't get to come in here with a song with a catchy beat and steal my thunder!

Update on Chance Hall:

There have been questions about Chance Hall’s availability for spring camp, but Tennessee’s new offensive line coach seemed to clear that up Tuesday.

Walt Wells said Hall — a talented-but-injury-plagued junior tackle — has been participating in winter workouts and should be “good to go” for spring camp.

“Chance, getting him back this spring will be big,” Wells said during his first interview as Tennessee’s offensive line coach. “I’ve been here since last January, and Chance has never been healthy. He’s always been beat up. I think a year ago it was maybe his upper body, and then this past year it was his lower body. Chance has never had a healthy offseason to where he can just workout and run and develop his body and get to where he needs to go get to. I’m looking forward to seeing how he progresses when we get out there.”

Wells said the plan is for Hall to be out there this spring, though, and that will make competition even better on a Tennessee offensive line with a lot of quality depth and legitimate NFL prospects.

“The plan is for him to be out there, as far as I know,” Wells said. “I’m not in the workouts, because I’m not allowed to be there, but as far as I know, he’s fine. As far as I have been told, and I’ve talked to Chance, and Chance has told me he’s been good. So he’s good.”
