As a former NCO, I am well versed in the vocabulary flora and fauna employed by the NCO corps as well. Most of which are limited to four letters but are very effective in yielding results. I am also fluent in the ability of NCOs to offer complimentary words that simultaneously disparage their intended recipient.

:lolabove:

I was never an NCO, but I was enlisted before I went the ROTC route. They do have a gift for getting their point across.

Figured that you would like that. I am one of those well educated Senior NCOs. I have to make my officers look better. Speaking of which, one of my LTs just got promoted to CPT. It felt like one of my children graduated high school. Since his promotion, I have inherited a MAJ that I am working on.

Yeesh. What now?

Other than saying that every position group will be at the bottom half of the conference they're saying CBJ have the most pressure to produce results next year. Then again I'm one of the few that think we're fine next year and won't lose more that 3 at the most.

We seem to do a lot better when we are underrated. JMO

Butch does have probably some of the most pressure. I don't disagree with that. The coaching industry is what it is nowadays, and it's year 5 for him. With that said, I think he's safe with another 8-4 year despite how ticked off I will be that we didn't "improve."

I think Butch is up there with the likes of Hugh Freeze, Malzahn, and Sumlin in terms of pressure.

All you field grades are the same. I joke with my MAJ that he is the 2LT of field grades.

I've always hated Majors. They always seemed pissed off at everything. I understand now. Staff work is enough to make anybody an angry POS 24/7/365. :rtfm:

Ain't that the truth. Being an intel guy myself, all I know is staff work. Did ops for awhile too. I have nightmares about OPORDs and MDMP LDPs.

All officers should be so lucky, seriously, that is cool.

Living in a constant state of MDMP is zero fun. OPORDs, FRAGOs, CONOPS, etc etc etc. :cray:

An officer without an NCO mentor/friend is looking for trouble. A good NCO will let you know when you're fixin to screw up and help fix your s*** when you screw up anyway. I love NCOs.

Am I the only one who really doesn't like the idea of Fulmer as AD? He is older and not a long term option and has no experience hiring and firing head coaches.

The no brainer option is to have Blackburn as AD and bring Fulmer in as special fundraiser capacity and guy who travels to speak for the program. I will be greatly displeased with Fulmer as AD honestly. I would rather have some young up and coming guy like Byrne with Alabama.

Agreed. A good Officer/ NCO relationship is an invaluable asset. Unfortunately, I have seen the bad side of it too. I had a commander I was a 1SG for that would completely disregard every piece of advice I gave him. His tour ended in a 15-6 and a relief for cause. Thankfully, I wasn't drug down with him as I had a good relationship with the BDE commander and CSM.

I don't think Fulmer would be a bad AD. Just kinda OK. Blackburn is obviously a better choice but we could do much worse. A lot of great ADs were former head coaches. If Fulmer is to be named, in order to be successful, his no. 2 would have to excel at the business side. Likewise, for Blackburn he needs a strong no. 2 to be a great AD. Someone who is intimately familiar with football operations. JMO

Ugh. The worst company grades I have ever seen were the ones that thought they outranked or knew more than the 1SG or CSM. Most CPTs have about 6-8 years of experience. That's good, but your 1SG has about twice that. You have two ears and one mouth so you can listen twice as much as you speak.

Completely agree. I have seen both sides as well. I had a great S-4 NCO when I was a BDE S-4. I also had a pretty crappy senior NCO on my 4 man team in my home unit in Civil Affairs. I have been fortunate to work with fantastic junior and senior NCOs on my deployments.
