Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXII

While sources have indicated UT has vetted numerous candidates and likely will interview between three and five possible replacements for Hart, who has served from September 2011 through present, the top two finalists and viewed as current Chattanooga athletics director David Blackburn and former UT football player and coach and College Football Hall of Famer Phillip Fulmer.

What sources have stressed to 247Sports the past week, in speaking with people on Capitol Hill in Nashville to those on Rocky Top and in Chattanooga, "there is not a scenario that works out for Blackburn to leave Chattanooga in order to be a No. 2 to Fulmer, if Fulmer lands the top post."

Sources familiar with recent meetings in Nashville and elsewhere emphasized to 247Sports that Blackburn is very happy in his top post at Chattanooga, where he has set records for the Mocs in fundraising and cut costs while increasing operating budget by more than 10 percent, and would only consider leaving Chattanooga for a top athletics director position at a Power-5 school --- specifically Blackburn’s alma mater on Rocky Top.

Pretty much ends any speculation out there that Blackburn would work with Fulmer if Fulmer somehow got the job.

I could believe it. And that's nothing negative about your post

Yeah I mean I guess I can believe it. Most of UT's problems are self inflicted.

Too many people over there concerned about themselves and not about the program. Self preservation and self promotion is the priority.

Can't believe we are gonna pass on Blackburn cause some booster got his feelings hurt.

"He may be setting fundraising records and dramatically improving the UTC AD but he didn't like my idea. Admittedly, my idea was stupid but I am willing to sacrifice the future well-being of the AD at the school I supposedly love because I have a pantload of money and my feelings got hurt. So :neener:."

It's frustrating because we have the resources to be at Alabama or Ohio State levels, and I'm talking in several sports we have the ability to be right at the top.
But we just seem determined to stay in this limbo below schools like Florida etc. And I'm not one of those to over hype our past. I just mean our facilities are as good, we have one of those most rabid fan bases in the country and if we are winning, the money will just pour in. It's a great investment for the entire university.

To have Blackburn making the ultimate call and Phillip involved with the program, seems a no-brainer.
That's why it irks me that I'm in wait-and-see mode because I just can't muster confidence.

I don't understand how Blackburn as AD and Fulmer as assistant doesn't absolutely make the most sense to everyone?

I would assume that Coach Fulmer would not be ok with that, if it does not happen that way, but I am not sure. It might just be the stupid BOT member who had his feelings hurt because somebody stood up to him.

Fulmer has clearly made a case for the position. I don't think someone of his stature would be OK with "losing" the race for the job then be cool with the new guy being his direct superior.

Some recruiting news (just on 2018 class visitors):

The list of in-state targets in attendance is expected to be headlined by Top247 safety Brendon Harris of Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tenn., and Top247 wide receiver Tykee Ogle-Kellogg of nearby Alcoa (Tenn.) High School, along with four-star defensive tackle D’Andre Litaker and four-star offensive tackle Maxwell Iyama of Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Tennessee’s two commitments for the 2018 class — five-star offensive lineman Cade Mays of Knoxville and Top247 athlete Alontae Taylor of Manchester, Tenn. — also are scheduled to visit the Vols on Saturday.

Three-star athlete/wide receiver Justin Oden of Spring Hill High School in Columbia, Tenn., three-star defensive back Jaylon King of Ensworth High School in Nashville, three-star athlete/safety Jarek Campbell of Murfreesboro and three-star cornerback Shatar McClay of Clarksville, Tenn., also are expected to be in attendance, along with three-star linebacker/defensive end Justice Dingle of Bowling Green, Ky.

Three-star Class of 2018 offensive lineman Ollie Lane of Gibbs High School in nearby Corryton, Tenn., is among the players drawing interest from Tennessee who plan to attend Saturday’s junior day.

You guys make a good point about Fulmer possibly not being on board with that. But, it wouldn't be a "step down" for him in that situation like it would be for Blackburn. So if that's the case would Fulmer's ego be overriding his love for the university?

At any rate, it sure seems like someone's ego is gonna keep us from making the best hires possible. I could be jumping the gun on this. Maybe it plays out better than we think it will. I just don't have any confidence in our administration.

Need Teague here with Litaker. They have known each other for a long time. Played Jr Pro (little league) football together.

Meanwhile Muschamp has put Marcus Lattimore on Teague...

I would hate to have a reason not to like Marcus lattimore

I speak fluent Officer. They like their flowery words. As a rule of thumb, I insult everyone even when I compliment them.

As a former NCO, I am well versed in the vocabulary flora and fauna employed by the NCO corps as well. Most of which are limited to four letters but are very effective in yielding results. I am also fluent in the ability of NCOs to offer complimentary words that simultaneously disparage their intended recipient.
