Pretty interesting that we would hire a person to be AD and in control over all UT athletics, but we fired him because he ran the football program into the ground. Not saying that is my opinion, but I'm already hearing this being put out there. It's how we do it at UT.

I mean Bill Battle struggled as Tennessee's coach at the end of his career and he turned out to be a pretty good AD at Alabama.

Not having played football except for a couple years in middle school, I'm curious about how important upper body strength is for a DT (K Mack)? He tore a pectoral muscle or something like that, right? When I saw him on the sideline at MCB, I thought his upper body looked relatively small (compared to the rest of him). Just wondering if this will be a significant setback...I'd assume he can't do much upper body training for a while.

Lot's of questions and assumptions there...I'd appreciate any feedback from those who are more informed about these things!

Lower body strength and technique more important probably since most of the time all you need a DT to do is take on a double team and not get moved.

Still need the upper body strength to fire your hands off the line though and create separation between yourself and the OL.

Worked for Bama and Battle. Maybe it will work for us with Fulmer. He cares. That's more than we have been able to say for a long time

While I don't disagree, it also makes another seperate point that Butch not only had ties to great personnel resources but could get them to buy in and join him at UT. I didn't buy the best staff in America comment, but you can argue he's improved with each hire he's made in his tenure here.

Maybe. Honestly I don't really care about Butch's connections or if he and the staff can go to Central Perk together after practice and sip some lattes together. I am completely ambivalent about these hires. At this point, my only interest is getting it done on the field and recruiting trail.

LWS in the FF stating that there is a lot of fire behind the smoke of Fulmer being AD rumors.

Also stated he wouldn't bet on anyone for sure. Pure chaos in the Athletic Department and among boosters.

IIRC he said in his presser that he "stood up for him" at his wedding.

Butch punched one of the bridesmaids in the gut when she looked at him funny. Everyone thought it was a jerk thing to do but Rock stood up for him. I mean she was asking for it. I think that is what he meant. I could be wrong but Butch does have a history of slugging people in the gut for sketchy reasons. TIFWIW #bolognasandwich

Battle also knows how to run a corporation, which is what an athletic dept is, a business. I love what Fulmer could rep for the university, but how much CEO knowledge does he have? That's my only concern.

Butch's last four hires:

Scott
Shoop
Gullickson
Warren

So looking at this list, where does the belief that he only makes weak/ crony hires come from? Is it only from when he hired Debord( which worked out pretty alright, IMO)? From looking at his hires, it appears that he tries to get the best available hire that will work within his system to me.

Gillespie and Thig had never worked with him either. Facts are needless when you're crafting a narrative. :hmm:
