i'm sold on him. A lot to sell especially as a recruiter, imo. Former heisman winner, nfl and mlb player. Being familiar with florida and the high school connection at img academy is especially important in my opinion. Img pulls kids from all over so i am sure he has relationships all over the south. This staff needs better teachers and better recruiters. Sheridan and debord may have been great, but give me the former heisman winning qb all day.

👍

Personally I think we should be able to do better than both.

Weinke should bring the heat as a recruiter, but we don't know how good he is at actually developing a QB.

A lot of people cite Dorsey working with Newton as a plus, but Weinke also worked with Newton before the draft. Less time compared to Dorsey I know, but to have experience at the highest levels professionally certainly helps when it comes to developing young QBs I have to think.

That's a plus, I guess.

But he doesn't really have a track record of taking a guy, working with over any extended period of time, and developing him as a position coach.

I'm not saying he can't do it or anything, just that it would be nice to have a few more names in the mix we could point to and say "yeah, he did a great job working with [insert QB] at [insert school or pro team] while he was there."

You can say that for Canales and Rivers to an extent, but his lack of production between those times is concerning and he doesn't seem like he'd be much help on the recruiting trail.

Dorsey would check all the boxes, but he's out.

Weinke has a promising track record, but he's obly got one year of experience coaching anything but HS ball.

I really like Jeff Durden's track record working with QBs and offenses, but he's been a small school guy and we don't know how he'd do on the recruiting trail.

Just doesn't seem like we're in on a guy who's a surefire homerun there. I think Weinke and Durden both have the upside to be home runs, but I wouldn't call either a sure thing.

Seems familiar that reports are Butch interviewed Weinke and then apparently Scott also spent time with Weinke separately. All signs point to Scott as OC of course, but Butch did the same with Shoop and Debord leaving them with the assistants to let them feel each other out if I remember correctly. Didn't Butch lock Shoop and the D coaches in a room for like 12 hours or something wild? Lol I seem to remember some report like that.

You made a good list of players with potential, not players who have been productive outside of a couple.
I may be late to the party, but this is pretty much bama every single year. New QB, RB, DL, LB, blah blah blah, then they go 12-1/13-0. Not saying we're bama, but we have recruited well the last 3-4 years. We cannot replace DB9, but other than that, can we really say one way or the other until the season starts?

I love Dobbs.....but his standard for passing accuracy, running thru progressions, reading defenses and getting us into a better play, and finding the open receiver is NOT the standard we want at UT......but he can extend plays and he is a heck of a runner and extremely hard to tackle.....

He IS A GREAT ATHLETE and fiery competitor who plays the QB position....He is a great kid with incredible character and is second only to Manning as an ambassador for UT football....

but he is NOT a great QB...and his QBR reflects it....especially against the better teams with better defenses...

He will be an H-back, TE, or WR in the NFL is he gets a shot.....

Here's hoping that JG or QD will prove to be great QBs....and not just good athletes playing the position

You clowns will be eating these words in a few years.

You'll be pretending you never said this.

I'm willing to get on board with JG if he wins the job. Are you willing to do the same if QD wins it? No, you'll be crying for JG at first INT.

That's the difference between us. I'm a true Vol fan. You're a wanna be talent scout.

You mean sheep.

If JG isnt the starter, that means Butch Jones should be fired immediately cause it proves he has no idea what he's doing.

The guy has continually let better players sit on the bench in favor of seniority. It'll be unacceptable if it happens again.

I'll support whoever wins the job. I'm biased, I prefer a DT QB because of what they add to the offense. But if JG isn't ready yet, so be it. My only concern is that Butch will give QD the job even if JG is better because QD has more experience or whatever like he did with Worley over Dobbs. Just give the best player the job is all I ask.

Its impossible for Dormady to win the job. JG is the more talented player. If Dormady starts it will be Butch Jones once again valuing seniority over talent. That is a fireable offensive IMO.

"Mike Canalas is interviewing on Sunday for the quarterback position.

We believe that Tennessee is scheduled to do at least two more interviews in the coming week and we think it will have an NFL flare to it. However, we don't think at this point that Ken Dorsey is on the interview list.

We will continue to dig to see if we can find any more names.

Also, Rock Gullickson could sign paper work on Sunday. If not then, he will early, early next week to make things official in a hire that was really made in Jones' mind a few months ago."

Nice to hear that they're going to do plenty of interviews. Bringing in a guy who can make sure our next QB makes us competitive next year is of the utmost importance.

I wonder if Weinke would be a detriment in recruiting. Working at IMG, I can't imagine he didn't burn bridges with other high school coaches by taking some of their best players.

Clowns should have thought of that when they decided to not be Chris Weinke
