In real life, if a man destroys a woman's face and it's on video he goes to jail. These start athletes get celebrity treatment and don't live in the real world. Joe Mixon got a redshirt year as punishment with full meals, room and board still good to go. Khalil needs to keep his privileged mouth shut.

As for Oklahoma, just win am I right. They deserve much worse.

I get that and I agree. Justice was not served. But the people who are responsible for dispensing justice should be brought to accountability here. Mixon should have received a much harsher penalty, but that decision was not his. I don't agree that Mixons life should be destroyed over this however. People can change.

What I find...curious? I don't know what word I'm looking for...is that people knew this already. It was well-known that Mixon had hit a woman and was allowed to remain on the team. A few people complained, but it wasn't a sustained story. Now that we have video of it, however, people are falling over themselves to condemn Mixon and OU for their actions -- and for the record, the condemnation is well-earned. But NOW people are outraged? We KNEW this happened.

It reminds me of Ray Rice. We knew the details enough to form a conclusion, but the real outrage doesn't show up until we get the video. It all rings rather hollow.

I think they were outraged before but didn't have the video to see how bad it was. Now with the video it not only rekindles the fire but it throws gas on it.

Just a small sample of the Ok board, and I mean small sample. they are overwhelminly supporting Mixon.

Eh, not as bad as I expected.

"Yes he follows her in there, but he clearly tries to walk away when she says something to him which provokes him. She assaults him twice before he punches her.

Pretty obvious that legally she's as much in the wrong as he is.

Forgot morals, they don't come in play here."

"The ***** deserved every ounce of pain she received. Any time you put yourself in the place of a man, you deserve what you get."

"I agree. I was expecting a lot worse because of the opinions of people that don't like Mixon or OU. I don't believe in hitting women, but she definitely started it and struck first. He just hit with the speed and strength that you would expect from an elite athlete. She just folded from a direct blow. "

"I have seen her arrest record before. It is ugly. I have been trying to load it for this sight and have failed. I am doing something wrong. Cleveland County and Norman police dept. I keep hitting a pay for sight. Lots to see. Sorry...I did my best. She is a fraud! The Oklahoman has perpetrated it and should be ashamed. This is a money grab."

"I stand solidly behind Joe Mixon here. Any drunk, druggie who I have never met or seen, assaults me with foul verbal language and physically attacks me totally unprovoked is gonna get the same treatment. Male OR female. "

"Guess they should charge the table. His fist did not hit her. He forearmed the side of her head and her Jaw hit the table on the way down. Guess no one mentions this."

Today - in the KNS - is a story and reposting of a FB post of the husband/father that lost his wife and daughters in the Gatlinburg fire due to the stupidity/ignorance/whatever of two young men. If you read it you might gain some perspective on the Mixon issue.

Personally, I believe Mixon did not receive sufficient discipline for his actions, yet, deserves forgiveness if he was remorseful and took steps to make amends. Even if he is correct, K-Mac should know better than comment on social media. Unless he also knows the victim and her family, he only knows one side of the story. Now is the time to focus on unity within UT and his responsibilities in Knoxville.

I suppose, but I wish there was some level of consistency from the media in how they covered things like this -- we shouldn't need video to be outraged when the account is verifiably accurate.

If you're a media figure who said, "Wow, that's awful" when the story initially emerged, who then swept it under the rug to be forgotten and who only now feels empowered to take a stand just because it's on video, your actions don't appear to me to be entirely driven by virtuosity.

Sports networks have drifted more into talking (in some cases lecturing) about social issues; they'll breathlessly cover Colin Kaepernick and others kneeling during the national anthem, they'll cover vague Title IX allegations, but a player punches a woman and they just kind of shrug until some video shows up?

I'm kind of rambling, but I think my point is that the media is very often full of crap when it comes to their stated intentions.

One thing I'm not understanding. All you guys who like me have been forgiven a lot of wrong. Why is what Khalil said so bad? If Mixon has made his wrongs right with the girl and her family, which as far as I can tell he has, then why no forgiveness for the guy? It was reprehensible and disgusting, but why no forgiveness now? I mean everybody here is wanting basically to destroy the guys life forever. I understand and advocate justice for victims, but is destroying the guys life justice? And please don't accuse me of defending what he did. It was disgusting, and he deserved harsher punishment than he got, but the decision on what punishment he received was not his. Those folks should answer for that.

I agree. After finding out Stoops and the AD saw this before deciding on Mixons punishment in the first place I'm more angry at the administration. And after looking at Stoops history of lack of punishment for this type of stuff I think there should be more backlash against him.

Also, I think part of the reason people are so critical because of his lack of punishment. If he had been kicked out of OU(which would've been deserved), and then gone JUCO instead of just being given a redshirt year then people would be more willing to be given a second chance

It's like the difference between a flagrant 1 and flagrant 2 in the nba. They were both wrong but he was waaaayyy more wrong. He should have gotten jail time and she should've gotten a fine.

I am not about ruining a man's life. I also believe in second chances. I think it's sad that in sports if a man makes a mistake he's blackballed by fans and media and isn't given any more opportunities. None of us are perfect, not even close. But we like to be a talking head on Tv and act as tho we are and condemn a guy and try to keep him from ever working again because he made a horrible decision in a matter of 5 seconds.

But here's the thing with Mixon: he was not punished at all. That's the problem here. Mixon was redshirted and faced no discipline. What this reveals is that OU, Stoops and the AD up there care more about winning ball games than they do about disciplining their players. Would love to see how different the situation with the frat boys would have been had they been football players. Bet they wouldn't have been expelled. Everyone involved in this decision should all be fired imo. Mixon should have been kicked off the team and had to go Juco route and earn his way back to elite football. You just don't do something like this and not face any punishment at all. Has this happened at TN Butch would have been burned at the stake already.

I can't believe, ok I unfortunately I do, that people are using 'women want to be treated equal' and connecting that sentiment to physically assaulting a woman. Women saying they should get to vote/get equal pay/get promoted equally, etc is in no way correlated to 'that means they should be engaged in physical alteration equally. That is beyond stupid. If a man's life is threatened then defend yourself...against man, woman, she-man, animal, alien, or anything else. Behind shoved by a woman who has no weapon NEVER justifies what he did. That is the opposite of 'being a man!' in that situation.

For me this follows under the category of:

You get to choose your actions;
You do not get to choose your consequences.

If fans choose to not support a "former" woman abuser, then those are the consequences.
