This is a long time to spend with someone to can them:

Especially after a decent year despite key injuries and closing with bowl win where you only allowed 6 points:

Vols ‘part ways’ with DC John Jancek |

Are we sure this wasn't a personality conflict or argument? Just curious. I heard Swain say Monday that if CJJ left it would not be because of his performance but because CBJ and him weren't getting along. Don't know if he knows what he is talking about though...

Swain doesn't know much more than the regular RF poster.

I was kind of wondering if this was CJJ decision and he had an offer somewhere else (like Wilcox leaving in 2011). But Scout reports that TN will own CJJ the last year of his contract - thus clearly he was fired.

When it is publicly announced that the change was a "mutual decision," it almost always means that the coach is being forced out and will receive compensation.

SIAP but Shoop recently rejected a reportedly very lucrative offer from AUB:

Citing what he describes as “a dependable source in Alabama,” David Jones of pennlive.com is reporting that Penn State defensive coordinator Bob Shoop has turned down multiple overtures from Malzahn to discuss the same job on The Plains. Jones adds that the position “would’ve made [Shoop] at or very near the highest paid coordinator in college football.”

I guess it will be pretty impressive if CBJ can pull this off.

Very interested to see the players repsonse to this. Hopefully they play politically correct with their social media.

Tkjr only tweet I saw that might be in reference

A few things that could have played a role in Shoop not wanting that job.

1. You'd be following Will Muschamp who reportedly was not returning to Auburn even before he lucked into the USCe HC job. But if he can't get it done there, then who can?

2. You would be the third DC in 3 years. Not usually a good spot to be in.

3. Gus's seat has warmed up considerably since his miracle season in year 1. Starting to look like fool's gold.

4. Possible that Shoop knew of a better opportunity that would be opening up.

Jancek just retweeted this....

If the Vols didn't think they were capable of winning a Natty with @UTCoachJancek why was he on staff to begin with???

Probably a personality conflict because the defense couldn't get off the field on 4th down against UF. That will change your mood pretty quickly.

I appreciate what CJJ did for our program. But, this is a tough business and they are well compensated. There were signs of some schematic issues the last couple of years. I think CBJ realizes that he can win a championship with better (and more aggressive) play, and it must happen now.
