Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXII

Nicely done...trying to bring some football talk for our team back to this thread. Won't work unfortunately...all the Bruin posts will make yours get lost.

The option plays that went for big yardage were a nice wrinkle too.

I feel like the staff is really close to being able to put an unstoppable product on the field each week. Just gotta be a touch more aggressive and a little better at half time adjustments IMO

Mizzou is great on D as a unit, but man to man doesn't have elite athletes. I think that's why the strategy was less on "system" and more on getting playmakers in space. I'd like to see more of that.

I bet we see the same thing this weekend too. Vandy as a unit is good, but one on one match ups can really be exploited.

The ranking of SEC jobs is a strange thing because it's all perception/subjective and people think it can seemingly change year to year.

But to me, if you try to give them a more static modern era ranking it's easier just to group them in tiers instead of splitting hairs over each specific job and what it looks like in it's present state. It would look like this....

(1) Bama, Florida, LSU
(2) UT, Georgia, Auburn
(3) Texas A&M, Arkansas, Ole Miss
(4) Missouri, South Carolina
(5) Miss State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt

Can you elaborate on the snap count? I missed most of the game and haven't gotten to see most of the plays yet- was so happy to get the win! I did see Butchs press conference yesterday and he spoke about his health in the context of a question he was asked regarding the stress of coaching in this conference. He said he needs to practice what he preaches regarding his health. He was smiling and almost laughing a lot of the time during the press conference- he is on the cusp of doing something great here!! And he knows it.

Got us at least 1 offsides penalty

However, the real question is whether our pecking order in the SEC deterred us from getting more offside penalties from it. I'm guess if we were a top 3 program the new snap count would have gotten Mizzou to jump, at minimum, three more times.

Figured I would just tie this all back together.

I happen to know for a fact that after the FL game Butch and his family were subjected to some really scary and messed-up stuff. Making a big salary might eliminate stress related to money, but there are other things in this life that can cause very real and intense amounts of pressure and stress.

While I'm not endorsing contacting a coach in that manner. He has the funds to purchase state of the art security and send his kids to private school. I'd take the big salary and manage you rednecks over my middle class stress any day.

Regarding fsu Vs lsu, I'd take lsu because there is more of an understanding when you lose. At fsu, if you lose, it's really bad as there is zero excuse. I think lsu has more slack than fsu. Plus you're always competing with UF with nothing more to offer. LSU is an easier sell. Way better fanbase, better stadium and facilities, SEC, away from home, etc. I've never been impressed with anything fsu and I've been there a handful of times along with baton Rouge

If it's a permanent ranking tenn has to be 2 behind Bama.

Not sure why tier of jobs/ programs need to be permanent. It gauging programs were permanent tenn, Miami and Nebraska would be top 5 programs right now

Ok. Maybe permanent is not the right word. How about "modern era" rankings. I just don't like it when people try to size up jobs by gauging where teams are ranked or what the roster looks like at that exact moment.

There's more to it than that.

Miss State has been better than us for years but that's not a better job than UT. No sign of that ever happening either.

Where we were perceived as a job is exactly why we hired DD and Jones.
Names hardly even mentioned in the coaching searches.

Sad not crazy but true.

I think we lucked into a good one though in jones

Drew them offsides several times when we were on offense. Made it where they had to think before the snap which helped with the pass rush

LSU is apparently drunk on corndogs and wants to drop a load of cash for a lateral move. I say let them. Hell I'll chip in some mustard.

This story is starting to sound very similar to Ole Miss with Cut getting fired and ogeron getting hired...ogeron is on sraff at lsu...the lsu boosters can actually understand what ogeron is saying...
Coincidence? I think not

One thing is for sure. ED O has plenty of experience of what a sinking ship feels like.

How many firings has he survived?

This is 4 I think

For those posters with less football knowledge

Offsides is a defensive penalty

Illegal procedure, illegal formation, and illegal motion are offensive penalties

Yes, but you're ranking our situation at the time and not where UT falls in the hierarchy in the SEC.

You're thinking immediate and I'm talking more general.

You're asking "how many games can we win next season" and I'm asking "Can I win an SEC Championship at this program" and "Can I win a national title at this program."

Just look back at the SEC Champions over the last 30 years. They all fall in the top 2 tiers I listed.

Seems like we are good for one Mack Crowder and Kyler Kerbyson false start each per game. Would think the seniors would be the least likely to flinch.

In the past 30 years we would be 2nd or 3rd but living on the glory of the 90s is over. It clouds our self perception here. That's all I am saying. Hopefully we are heading back to that spot but we aren't there now

Did Crowder jump? I remember Wiesman and Kerbyson.

Edit: According to utsports box score. UT had three false starts by Kerbyson, Wiesman, and Robertson. None by Crowder. The Wiesman jump was overcome with a first down, but Robertson aided in killing the same drive with his, resulting in Medley's 44-yarder.

Kerbyson's aided in killing a drive in the third quarter, resulting in a punt.
