I like his style.
Also, he's pretty much one of the last of the great coaches from my childhood when I fell in love with CFB.
I agree. He was fun and one of the original trash talkers - which was unique from the usual coach speakers.
FWIW to everybody calling him an azz for leaving mid-season - he did the program a huge favor. Don't you think he talked it over with the AD many times for a long period before he pulled the string? C'mon. By leaving now he saves the school money on his contract and gives them ample time to have a deal done for his replacement as well their staff so it can recruit decently. Per his contract they would not have been able to do that until he was officially terminated. It also gives the players who committed an out to consider other options. It's not like the team was going to be good this season. I applaud him for doing it right.
So how attractive is the South Carolina job? It leaves a whole lot to be desired, IMO.
1. Competes against A&M, UGA, FL, TN, Clemson annually
2. Scraps of talent left on the team.
3. Declining for 3-4 years.
4. Decent recruiting grounds, especially if you can get into NC & VA
5. Not a traditional powerhouse.
I don't know... They may have a hard time getting a solid hire unless they go to the bank
I've had my eye on Charlie Strong there, but he may turn Tecas around
Agree. It's the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard the news and remembered the discussion of the OP. Hope I'm wrong. If so, great work by Freak and the gang to remove it quickly.
In a normal year he wouldn't. But he may be the least risky hire out of all the mid-major guys this season. There just aren't a lot of great candidates this year.

I wonder about Mark Dantonio going to SCAR. On one hand, it would be insanity to leave his gig at MSU. But he played at SCAR. And to paraphrase Johnny Majors, "When momma calls, you come running."
That could be their best scenario, IMO. But no.
So here's Dantonio's response to the SCAR question at his presser this AM:
"Coach Spurrrier has had an outstanding career there, it's my alma mater, and we're here to talk about Michigan," Dantonio said.
Definitely not a denial of interest. But... surely not.
