So evidently nothing to the Pearson rumors last night?

Pure speculation on my part, but there was an alleged rape in the Ft. Sanders neighborhood yesterday evening per the late news. The OP probably thought he would be funny. Again - pure speculation on my part.

If that's true, Voldango AKA Babyavi needs to be a BFL (Banned for life).

I like his style.

Also, he's pretty much one of the last of the great coaches from my childhood when I fell in love with CFB.

I agree. He was fun and one of the original trash talkers - which was unique from the usual coach speakers.

FWIW to everybody calling him an azz for leaving mid-season - he did the program a huge favor. Don't you think he talked it over with the AD many times for a long period before he pulled the string? C'mon. By leaving now he saves the school money on his contract and gives them ample time to have a deal done for his replacement as well their staff so it can recruit decently. Per his contract they would not have been able to do that until he was officially terminated. It also gives the players who committed an out to consider other options. It's not like the team was going to be good this season. I applaud him for doing it right.

Agree. It's the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard the news and remembered the discussion of the OP. Hope I'm wrong. If so, great work by Freak and the gang to remove it quickly.

I agree. Also, my first thought was that by leaving now he's giving the interim coach a tryout at head coach for six games. (Like Orgeron at USCw, which didn't work out for him.)

So how attractive is the South Carolina job? It leaves a whole lot to be desired, IMO.

1. Competes against A&M, UGA, FL, TN, Clemson annually
2. Scraps of talent left on the team.
3. Declining for 3-4 years.
4. Decent recruiting grounds, especially if you can get into NC & VA
5. Not a traditional powerhouse.

I don't know... They may have a hard time getting a solid hire unless they go to the bank

I've had my eye on Charlie Strong there, but he may turn Tecas around

Not an attractive job IMO. Awful roster. Following a legend. Clemson taking over instate. They will have to hire a young up and comer that is willing to work like crazy in recruiting. I will say their stadium atmosphere is underrated when they are having success but fair weather fandom hurts them

I agree on Freak doing good work identifying and deleting that sheet. I just wish he'd leave my darn post alone! :)

In a normal year he wouldn't. But he may be the least risky hire out of all the mid-major guys this season. There just aren't a lot of great candidates this year.

Herman and Fuente will be the "it" names but watch for names like Dino Baber and Dykes as well.

Strong to SCar makes too much sense for it to happen.

Talk UVa is going to fire London.

I know this may not be a popular opinion but I think Strong would be a really good choice for South Carolina. JMO

To take a line from Robby in Joe Dirt: "Nobody wants you around Steve" in all seriousness he is one of the best personalities ever In college football. He did coach at Florida though so that can't be forgiven.

I wonder about Mark Dantonio going to SCAR. On one hand, it would be insanity to leave his gig at MSU. But he played at SCAR. And to paraphrase Johnny Majors, "When momma calls, you come running."

That could be their best scenario, IMO. But no.

People here can't understand that. Sure, I couldn't stand him when he was with UF. But as I grew older I appreciated his contribution to CF. He will go down as one of the best in this great conference.

So here's Dantonio's response to the SCAR question at his presser this AM:

"Coach Spurrrier has had an outstanding career there, it's my alma mater, and we're here to talk about Michigan," Dantonio said.

Definitely not a denial of interest. But... surely not.

It would be great for them, but. I can't see it. He is almost 60 and would have to come in and rebuild a pretty bad South Carolina team. It would take a few years to get them turned around and by that point it would be about time to retire.

No way. He has Michigan St built to compete in a weaker conference. His job is secure. It doesn't make sense for him to leave for Gamecock land.

If I am South Carolina, it's Fuente, Babers, Morris, Herman. Guys with offenses that can win with less than elite talent

I agree that it would be crazy... but when you are set for life financially and get a chance to return home and rebuild your alma mater...

Johnny Majors did exactly that.

And Dantonio didn't deny it, which leaves the door open.

But again... insanity.

That was my take on it as well. There was never going to be a "good" time to do this. So, figure out the timing that would cause the least damage to the team and athletic department.

And I hope they don't go get Dino Babers. We saw what he can do with BGSU talent, and while the roster is down as SC now, he would end up with more talent than he has at BG. Gave us fits for a good while.

Spurrier during his press conference just said that he is resigning, not retiring, and that we may hear of him coaching at a high school one day.

Science Hill baby!
