@WATEMichael: Jones talking about analytics and nothing is done by chance. Says 4 or 5 hours went into that decision. #Vols

Guys this is the dumbest crap I have ever heard.

Jones analytics chart is the equivalent of Derek Mason's magic piece of paper.

Absurd.

He just wants Brad Pitt to play him in Money Ball 2.

SIAP...for those wanting Richmond to play...Hubbs said yesterday on VQ that they're trying to redshirt Richmond and PFort said he thinks they're doing the same with Boulware. We'll see Mosley some as well as Jack Jones at right guard with Weisman possibly at left per Hubbs.

makes sense if starters stay healthy as long as they keep preparing just in case of injury because I don't see the staff ever turning to Blair as a starter of anything happened to our top 3 tackles.

A few hopes going forward:

1. I hope the coaching staff realizes that in the really big games, the ultra conservative team usually loses while the team that Lays it all out there for 4 quarters usually wins. We don't yet have the depth on d or power on offense to just salt away the game vs. really good teams.

2. I hope they rep the fire out of blitz pick up and finding the hot route in practice the next 2 weeks.

3. I hope they can get Kirkland Jr. up to speed before Florida. Jumper is VFL, but a better athlete is needed in that spot. Besides the whiff on the sack, I saw him beaten badly in coverage at least 3 times.

4. I hope EVERYONE realizes that Oklahoma is not chopped liver. TCU is basically the only team on their schedule with a good chance to beat them, and they could very likely end up in the playoffs with an 11-1 record.

5. I hope EVERYONE realizes that we could still have a special season and win the East. After this week, Alabama and Georgia are the only teams remaining on our schedule that appear to be as good as Oklahoma.

6. I hope the fans realize that unless we miss a bowl, calling for Jones's job would be extremely counterproductive.

7. Last but most important, I hope there are no more injuries.

Vol fans are upset because everyone knows we had this game won, just needed to finish it.

Not sure if it was players ran out of gas or coaches didn't have the guts, maybe a little of both.

If the Oline was 1% better and we run it in from the 1/2 yard line and close out the game; if Dobbs is 1% better then he completes 1 or 2 more passes. If Ellis is 1% better he doesn't drop a TD pass, etc; etc.

If the coaches know the players are better they stay more aggressive in the 3rd and 4th quarter and we blow them out. I'm not taking up for Butch because I do think he got a little too conservative.

But everything he has told us has been true, absolutely true, about depth, practice reps, and getting 1% better every day. Sometimes we just have to swallow the bitter truth, we are not ready yet. We have the talent, just not the experience and depth we need. And, the coaches have to get better as well. And I am sure they know that.

I don't see how you can ever say a game is 100% on a coach. The players play the game. I would, however, say Jones gets most of the blame. Call it semantics, but it's an important distinction.

There were a lot of screw ups by players that would have otherwise iced that game.

Jones has played close to vastly more talented teams, and he's beaten more talented teams both in previous stops and here. Every coach has befuddling losses on their resume. Every one of them. This was against at the most, an even opponent.

I give Jones a pass for the Vandy game in 2013. I put that one on the players. The OL couldn't get an inch to ice the game and Pig committed a dumb penalty that erased a game-winning touchdown. The staff did the best they could with a complete dearth of talent on the offensive side of the ball.

But against OU, they had skill players all over the field, including a massive RB who was running angry, and decided that 17 points was enough to win the game. Yes, players made mistakes, but with a more aggressive offensive gameplan, we win easily. We had so many possessions with nothing to show for it. Even converting a couple extra first downs during the 3rd quarter punt fest may have been enough to win the game.

Could someone do me a favor and give me an estimate of when in the game Ellis' dropped TD catch was.. I seem to have missed it

Pretty sure it was the first drive of the second half. But the second half was a blur to me so I could be wrong.

Whether you like Jumper's game or not, you have to admit we'd be so much better if AJ Johnson was still around. That guy is sorely missed.

The same guy this board wanted benched for not being able to cover WRs???

Lol. Funny how things change but stay the same

Wasn't Reeves-Maybin aligning people in the correct position? I say let Reeves-Maybin make the adjustments, and let the more talented MLB in there to play.

It's been said multiple times that the MLb has to be the one making the calls . I don't understand it either

I would be somewhat for 21 playing MLb but damn not sure why you would want anything different for that guy right now

Ellis shouldn't have been the target, where was Helm?

AJ was a tackling machine so coverage limitations were a give and take for me but jumper can't tackle or cover. Kirkland is a stud that needs majority of snaps ASAP. It's best to break him in vs Western Carolina instead of an SEC opponent as starter.

I think the reason many people are advocating for JRM to play in the middle is because in the spring we all heard reports that Cortez McDowell was playing extremely similar to JRM. If that's true, then it would seem to be an obvious upgrade to have JRM play in the middle because he is a better player than Jumper. This would allow CMD to play in JRM's spot, and since CMD is supposed to have a similar skill set to JRM it would improve the LB corp.

Perhaps you are correct but I will ride with the coaches on this one. Especially considering we might have played our best game defensively in a long time Saturday. I liked that unit on Saturday and would prefer to get similar performances every week

As long as 21 still has the freedom/comfort to make plays then heck yea I am with you.

We have to throw up 50-50 deep balls to North this weekend. It will keep Florida thinking.

In essence, Butch needs to grow a pair.

You already know exactly what's going to happen against WCU. Hurd and Kamara get 15 carries each. Kelly gets 6-7. We rush for a lot of yards because it's WCU. Dobbs throws it 25 times: 10 are screen passes, 5 are badly overthrown intermediate/deep balls, 5 are quick slants to Pig/Pearson, and the remaining 5 are erratic passes that aren't even close to catchable.

We win big and everyone praises the offense, but then we roll into Gainesville and every single one of those plays gets shut down immediately and we have 10 points at the half and the Gators hit a big play to start the 3rd to gain momentum and....

That being said, I have no reason to doubt CJJ and CWM when it comes to personnel decisions on defense. They seem to have a great handle on making personnel decisions. Our defense is far and away the brightest spot on this team, even with all of the injuries. Therefore, aside from the whole letting Sutton switching sides to guard playmakers, I can't justifiable question much of what the defensive staff decides to do.

The offense on the other hand...

Yep

I 100% trust their decisions

I tend to agree with this post. Complain about the coaching all you want, but the coaches did have the team in a position to win. That's significant. And that said I am concerned about the offense. Who would not be?

I don't disagree with any of this, but it's a little different than saying its' 100% on Jones and Debord. I don't think it's ever 100% on anyone in a football game. That's all.
