On some level, Mason likely knows he's toast after this season. It would take a miracle for Vandy to win 5 games, which is the minimum for him to be considered safe heading into 2016.

They finished dead last in recruiting for the second year in a row, which means the talent gap between them and the rest of the SEC is getting back to what it was pre Bobby Johnson.

Mason is also a bad head coach, so it's not like he can steal a few wins on sheer coaching ability.

If they lose to WKU (and there's a very good chance they will), the wheels will completely fall off. David Williams may not fire him, but if he steps down, his replacement certainly will.

After 1 year and an opening game? I really really doubt that.

They only lost one they weren't supposed to lose. That's a very quick way to never get a decent head coach ever again.

Not immediately after the WKU game. But if they drop that, their best case scenario is probably 3-9 again, in which case a new AD would likely let him go. There's a good chance Williams will resign soon, as he's having health problems.

And those low expectations are primarily due to Mason being such a terrible coach to begin with.

I thought he was doing a great job for them.

It's a shame Cam Sutton isn't on that list. He's just as good as VHIII

People will argue with you, but I agree. Cam has that dog in him, and to me he has the advantage of staying healthy. VHIII has never suffered from major injuries. I do notice he gets nicked and banged up often. You never hear about this from Cam. The mentality and the toughness sets Cam apart, IMO. VHIII is an elite athlete and talent, but Cam is the man!

Cam Sutton for President 201.... Oh wait.

Cam Sutton for Heisman 2015!

A lot of people want to talk about how special a talent VHIII is and how Cam isn't in the same league athletically. Here's a mock 2016 draft on walterfootball.com which is normally a pretty legitimate source for these kind of things. VHIII is 4th. Cam is 9th.

Cam is all steak, no sizzle. Those positions in the draft would be flipped were he as highly-touted as a recruit as VHIII was.

Cam suffers from a lack of a similar CB on the other side of the field. Since teams can play away from him, he looses a lot of national visibility. That will change this year.

I think people also mistake making it look really smooth and easy as not as athletic. Cam is a very good athlete. They just don't want to give TN credit for having a big time player right now since we have been so bad. This year is an opportunity with a lot of eyes watching for a lot of kids to make big statements on their future

He really does make it look easy. When he ripped off that punt return was one of the few times he got to show what an athlete he is.

Anyone ever notice how the new UF coach looks like the dad from 19 kids and counting? I think his name is Duggan or Duggar

This guy?

Best and worst case scenarios for UT in 2015 from SDS:

Best case: Joshua Dobbs picks up where he left off at the end of 2014 and by December is named an all-conference performer due to his strong arm and explosive running abilities. Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara split time and match one another’s explosiveness, keeping each other fresh throughout the season. The Vols large collection of touted signees on both signs of the line of scrimmage get up to speed quickly, and the Vols return to their past glory with a 10-win season and an SEC East crown.

Worst case: Dobbs is exposed in his first full season as the starter, he lacks explosive playmakers on the outside, and those offensive and defensive line recruits suffer growing pains in their rookie seasons. Tennessee remains bowl eligible, but it must wait another year to take the next step on the path back to the top of the SEC East.

Seems about right to me. A 10-win season with an East title hinges on three things: Dobbs taking the next step and improving his accuracy as a passer, the offensive line improving to at least middle of the pack in the SEC, and at least 2-3 newcomers making big impacts similar to Barnett, Hurd, and TK Jr.

At first glance, the line about lacking explosive playmakers on the outside seems ridiculous given how much talent we have at WR. But outside of Pig, none of that talent has really shown out for a full season. I fully expect that unit to be excellent when fully healthy next year, but it's not a guarantee.

Also, it's nice to think that our worst case scenario still involves going to a bowl. The days of sweating out the Vandy game for bowl eligibility are over.

North was listed at #27 on this link as well. Although in the updated version Sutton has dropped to #28 and North is no longer listed. I think a solid season as expected from both will really help them, I could see North really showing out at the combine as well.

I've stated this before, I think Cam has hurt his stock from his medical condition that causes him to blackout sometimes. He claimed he blacked out sometimes in games.

I originally stated he should have never said that. However, I now believe that NFL scouts would have figured this out, even if it was kept private. I hope it doesn't affect his future, but if you're a GM about to drop millions on him, you may opt for VHIII, a guy who does not black out during games....
