Recruiting Forum Football Talk XLVI

“Bring me average” was in response to saying Mullen would be average here and if average is 9wins consistently, which people agree, I’d gladly take it right now.

I’ve also said Peterson and Schiano could be good hires too. So just bc i don’t post “soon” or “Gruden” all of a sudden I’m the problem. If the hire is not gruden or Peterson 95% of this board will be disappointed. That’s what I’m against. Give whoever a chance. That’s my stance all along.

Peterson yes, Schiano no

Mullen is at best let's just see what he does with higher ceiling and higher pressure. He has none where he is.

I think Schiano is a class A prick, but I do think he's a good football coach. Not sure he'd fare too well with the Knoxville media.

If I can't have Gruden, I would perfectly willing to support a Petersen hire. I did briefly enjoy the Wikipedia page for him saying he was the coach at UT, but it's been changed back. Just make sure the money is good enough for him and the pool for assistant coaches is large enough for him to hire the right staff.

On another note, thank you Ron Swanson for being in this forum. I always enjoy your comments and your truly great and memorable picture. (It helps even more now that I've watched all of Parks and Recreation, finally.)

I am all aboard the Gruden train okay, but here is a question for everyone.

At what point does Gruden no longer become a possibility? Honestly I feel like if we have him you can make some realistic arguments as of why we would want to wait till the end of the season to announce him. However I feel like if nothing is announced by Tuesday then Gruden becomes very unlikely JMO

That ship has already sailed. But until we officially announce a guy, people will be hollering "smokescreen! Smokescreen!" I'll be focusing on Petersen, Mullen, Frost and Campbell.

The Jerry Sandusky accusations against Schiano seemed rather similar to the Drae Bowles situation and Butch Jones. Also Schiano's former players said he had " Small man syndrome", which also applied to Butch Jones. The actual reason I think they'll take Schiano is that he has no buyout and will come at the lowest cost. Plus he'll probably be able to get 8 wins a year, which I think is really the AD's goal. I'm suspicious that this Gruden, Petersen, Mullen talk has all been Smoke and Mirrors.

I don't think you understand the concept of smoke and mirrors. You don't trick people by floating home run hire names and jerk the rug out from under them with a cheap, highly questionable name. If you're going to put up smokescreens, you deflect with similar or less desirable outcomes before you reveal what you are doing the whole time.

Doubt it would effect recruiting. Isn't he credited for being one of the best recruiters now?

Different when you're the HC. It would 100% affect recruiting. Also if you're accused of enabling a child molester, I don't care if it's he said she said. If there are any other options, I'm taking them.

I think those are the top 4 for sure, and most realistic (except Petersen, I'm guessing most of the interest is on our side, except the part where he pretends to be interested to get paid closer to what he's worth).
