He didn't and I didn't compare them. Said Campbell is more like Franklin.

Yeah, sorry if I confused, I was agreeing with you. Drylo said Campbell was the same as Butch. I wondered when Butch ever beat two top five teams.

Sure, but in my opinion we're already at the tail end of a week of negotiations you mentioned. They've been talking to Mullen for two weeks at least. Maybe longer since it's Sexton. That's why I'm saying if you sit down with him it's probably done. I don't think it got to this point with Mullen with Florida, Penn State or Oregon.

You'd know better than I, but the only coach we sat down with in 2012 was Strong, right? And he agreed to a deal. Then he went home and Louisville paid him enough to make him stay.

Sure. They've been talking to Sexton, but MSU is still waiting in the wings. There will be addendums and counters. MSU wants to slow it down; we want to speed it up. I just think we'll move along quickly, unless we know Mullen is serious. No time for gameplay, and if starts going that way, I think we'll take it as a sign and move on quickly. JMO. The only thing I know for sure is that Currie doesn't place a premium on SEC experience like some.

I trust Currie. It seems Mullen is now the target after Gruden. If Mullen declines I imagine Currie knows exactly who to call next to get it done quickly.

We're going to have an announcement either Sunday or Monday. I'm very confident in that.

Not really. I used the OG to identify my as the original babyavi, although I did get that idea for the original Grudenites. However, yes, I thought we would get him the last time. I didn’t fully realize the dumpster fire we had at the time, and how dysfunctional the administration and boosters were. Plus, I can’t help but try to be optimistic when it comes to my alma mater. I think things are at a completely different level than they were in 2012.

That's fine. It's great to be optimistic. I would challenge you, however, to not look at everything as a sign of Gruden's impending announcement as coach.

IDT we're going to lock up Mullen until Currie feels confident we can't land one of our top candidates. I agree it could fall to Mullen... but if we hire him before midweek, at least two other candidates refused to do a face-to-face.

My point was that UT can try to hire an "A" list coach all day, but it isn't just about money. There are many other factors.

See McElwain at UF, Oregeron at LSU, and Helton at USC.

I agree but and it goes to my point. We've known there's been dysfunction within the top brass at UT. Which includes the boosters, AD, Chancellor, and the BOT. I don't think that's all been fixed. In order to make a big hire, everything has to be a coordinated effort. Not sure that everyone is marching to the same drum. Also, I don't think money is the only factor but UT has said it won't overpay for a coach. My problem is I don't think their definition of overpay is the same as many. You're not going to get an established coach to move from his current situation by offering him a slight raise. JMO.

Gotcha. Campbell might end up being a stud coach. One win can be chalked up to a fluke but two? And he was pretty good at Toledo before that.

From the FF:

Update from Swan Man on VQ

"Man, rumors are everywhere and honestly I’m not sure anyone knows....
I heard another Grumor yesterday from someone that you’d think might know that was positive on Gruden..... dude has a skybox and a large donor.

However, it’s hard not to believe folks like Brent that have been doing it so long.

I think it’s just a wait and see"

I don't believe Peterson or Patterson are real candidates. Especially Peterson. People are running with one press conference question where he said he's upset they have to play so many night games. He wasn't mad at Washington about it. He was mad at ESPN for putting them in that slot each week.

Frost.

Experience at Oregon, success at UCF, looks like he'd break a dude in half...

I can't tell if Campbell is a flash in the pan or the real deal.

Campbell has too much Butch and PJ Fleck in him for my liking. "Trust the process" will never be an appealing slogan to me ever again. Doesn't mean he isn't a great coach, but I hate that style so much now

So you had rather take a chance on a guy winning in the American Athletic Conference than a guy who has won in the SEC?

This argument has many holes

If Gus was our coach and just had seasons of 8-5, 7-6, 8-5, you guys would want him gone same as a lot of Auburn fans do.

Somebody told me he doesn’t allow cussing. Anyone else heard that?

I hate to even say this as I know how people are going to respond to it but...

Had family dinner with a guy that works in the AD who frankly Hubbs, Hyams etc all get their info from. He basically said anyone throwing out names including Gruden etc are just guessing at this point or putting out their most educated guess hoping to be right. While boosters may think they know things and float things to people, he stated nothing (absolutely nothing) was coming from Currie. Even he, who would have a large roll in the announcement of a new coach etc was in the dark. He said the only time he has known anything in advance was going into Missouri game as there were some contingencies based on how the game went as to whether or not they made a change at that time. His guesses, and he clarified that as guesses, were Currie would come back on Thursday from Bahamas and probably start on Friday with guys like Mullen that may be done with regular season. He did not expect it to go very long though considering the Dec 20th signing date.
